The 2022 Lexus NX 450h+ Is A Compromised Plug-In Hybrid Luxury SUV

  • We've been waiting a while for Lexus to completely redesign their second best-selling vehicle in the lineup. For 2022, the #LexusNX gets the full redesign that it needs to stay competitive with other luxury rivals. Lexus even took it up a notch with their first-ever plug-in hybrid called the #LexusNX450h +, the #NX450h + borrows the powertrain from the #RAV4Prime which means we get up to 304 HP, 36 miles of electric-only range, and 0-60 in about 6 seconds. Its the most powerful member in the #Lexus #NX family, but it does come with a few compromises that make us feel confused.

    Happy Friday everyone! We really appreciate all the big steps forward Lexus took with this redesigned Lexus NX, the PHEV model is the most powerful and quickest version in the lineup and that's impressive! However, it seems like for the two steps forward Lexus took, they also made two steps back with some of the packaging in this vehicle. Or maybe it's because the competition is just so darn good nowadays, that it's hard to ignore some of the flaws this car has. Regardless, we'll be testing the NX350 and NX350h for an extended period of time very soon and will update our reviews accordingly!

      The fact that you were disappointed with the nx turbo and the base engine only shows that I was right the entire time. Your disappointment is my enjoyment and celebration 😁. Now I can just sit back and laugh at you all because I warned you all the nx already disappoints before it even goes on sale. You refused to take me seriously and shut me down for telling sofyan not to drive the nx. Now we can see that I was right and you were wrong. That must be humiliating for you 😂. There are better cars worth driving and this isn’t it 😂
      Seriously sofyan, consider consulting with me on whether a future Toyota or Lexus product that no one’s seen or driven is even worth looking at or doing a review on. No way in hell would I be spening $50-60 thousand dollars on "ambient lightening" if my own personal hard-earned money is on the line. "Pano roof," as some of these inepts keep talking about is noiser and results in potentially more rattles and sgueaks especially as a vehicle gets older. Most of these cars are not built to last so they don't care and they are only emphazing some of these features to get silly people.

      @@Mark-de4hj But, you're not spending 50-60k for ambient lighting, that's kind of a hyperbole, isn't it? All I'm saying is if the reviewer talks about ambient lighting (if the car has it), it would be nice to see what it looks like. I'm not arguing for or against the ambient lighting on its face as an idea. Sure more features = more potential problems, but nice features are nice and not everyone is willing to go completely barebone stripped down model in fear of something breaking.

    • @Mark-de4hj
      @Mark-de4hj 2 года назад +1

      @Richard Navrátil Forgive me, I guess having been a luxury car owner for so long I forget that things like ambient lightning is important to some. Pretty much all new vehicles, and especially luxury vehicles, are equipped with those. We are now more concerned about having 'adaptive lightening', which is considered important as a safety concern. I find it interesting that you equate not having ambient lighting to being "stripped down" though..

    I cross shopped both the NX and RAV4 and the 450h is well worth the $10k premium over the RAV4 Prime. The RAV’s infotainment was out of date when it came out in 2019 and the screen quality is very low resolution. The RAV’s interior materials are noticeably consumer grade and lack the premium feel you get from the Lexus. For a car you plan to own long term its well worth spending a little more up front to enjoy the premium experience for the years to come.

    Even if I like Redline Review, I insist viewers to watch other 5-10 reviews about Lexus NX. Others have covered more good side/characteristics of Lexus this channel did not cover. This is true for all cars and models. Do not decide to buy or reject a car based on 1 review.

    • @xfirstxlast6502
      @xfirstxlast6502 2 года назад

      Agree, there are much other better balanced UT reviewers on NX.. His values (as I think he acknowledges) are not the trade-off most Lexus buyers would make to get a few 1/10 sec on 0-60, and a little more cargo room for a really boring, old technology Rav4. Most people would never notice the 1/2 seconds slower speed.
      As he noted in his last Rav4P review, he really seemed to have some 2nd thoughts of a PHEV's value, in general. He liked Rav4P only in EV as he seemed to say in this review also- too noisy. And on the Rav4P and 450h+, I agree. One you run out of that 30 miles or so in any cold weather ( and HS highway your are in the 20's), you are really just lugging around 400 lib just to have essentially a much over-specified battery hybrid drive system. Just get an EV. To me, that is the real compromise of the NX 450H. And I do agree, it is very strange to not have the ML sound and panorama roof. I ordered the 350h Luxury with ML sound and panorama roof. LOL

    I just finished watching your 2022 Lexus NX 450+ On February 25, 2022. Excellent video and extremely informative. You need to be hired by Lexus corporation to teach their sales people about all the different packages that this car comes with. The sales people keep on insisting that the 450+ still comes with the panoramic moonroof and the Mark Levinson sound system. You are the first person that actually said this on any RUclips channel. In terms of the missing content, I wonder if that is due to supply chain and other factors? The 450 us built in Japan, alongside the RAV4 Prime, and I wonder if Toyota decided from a profitability standpoint, the R4P offered better returns with the panoramic roof, exhaust tips, and other content. Lexus offers additional luxuries, so maybe the offset it on certain models.

      The best way to maintain the life and fuctionality of a modern engine is generally though a higher octane level of gasoline which have being processed for less polutants and results in a cleaner burn with less engine noise. You can use a lower octane but its generally not recommended for extended periods. Using a synthetic oil is also best in producing less gunk and buildup and can better handle heat. This is why most higher end cars go this route.
      Note; I bet it would be rare for anyone seriously considering a Lexus NX and can afford it, would then end up purchasing a Kia...

    One of the worse and bias reviews I have seen in a while. You obviously do not understand the mission of Lexus. Their mission is not to compete with the competition for fastest or greatest but to offer a great all-around product. You keep going on about your "pano roof". Panoramic roofs generally compromise in-cabin noise levels especially over time as the vehicle ages, and is not necessarily an upgrade per se, but your continuous mention denotes your level of competence for this kind of a forum. Maybe its a Millennial thing but if I were Lexus I would never sent a vehicle to someone who is incapable of even understanding its mission.
    You seem to operate on the spectrum that gaudy, loud and in-your-face appearances and functionality translates into quality. You cannot appreciate that less is more. People who buy Lexus wants the reliablity and quality without the gaudiness. They appreciate conservative styling. Obviously, having "carplay" does not make a person (or a car) more attractive, does it?
    This generation of people seem to always be "annoyed" and "unimpresssed" and things are "plain" and "boring" Its painfully uncomfortable watching you speed test the vehicle. You might have heard, "only boring people gets bored"..?
    Quality, comfort, luxury, reliability, resale, and more than anyone can ask in a modern functional vehicle is what Lexus shoppers want. Throw in the excellent dealership experience and its worth much more that the "competition" you keep waxing about. A person looking for the Lexus badge is not interested in a Rave4 or worse, the Hyundai experience with your GV whatever.

But still cheaper than any German car however you slice it. And been there and done that already, so the NX seems like a good relative value. IMHO

      No pano roof is a deal breaker for many people, last year I went with an RDX for it, and its turbo charged engine which in 2021 models is quite superior to the Lexus NX. The new NX finally upped the HP, but no Panoramic roof? That’s a feature that should be standard on luxury SUVs.
      Also the NX didn’t feel as roomy as many of its competitors. Sofyan did a good job in pointing out the strength and weaknesses of the vehicle.

      Its really a seven thousand dollar difference. You can put a diamond and gold roof on a vehicle and make it 10 million dollars more. It has better leather, a HUD, more safety tech, better screens, bigger more premium wheels and etc etc. As an owner of 2 RAV4 Primes, the demand for that vehicle is also higher. Selling for well over sticker price. It is very difficult to lease a hybrid in any configuration. Besides these two vehicles, I'd never buy a car. Leasing is 10 times better. The exception was these, that I can sell now for more than I paid. Improved gas savings with a Lexus for about seven thousand more is funny to me. The RAV4 to save money on fuel is funny to me. You are spending way more for fuel costs you will recover in about 10 years. The 7500 rebate is applicable in some areas for people like me to throw more money on the pile of money, that I already hav. That's funny. Leasing , the 7500 is not applicable. So, leases get damaged by tax rebates and demand increases monthly costs. The only thing that helps is keeping its value after 36 or 39 months and maintenance savings.
