The "oohs" and "ahhs" and "bloody 'ell's" is what makes this video so good. I also couldn't stop laughing at "Some of them sound like a mic stand falling over"
While perusing RUclips for Ableton tutorials on this fine Sunday morning with a coffee I never thought I'd fucking laugh along to a video entitled "Hardcore Kick Drum Sample Generator in Ableton 11" so much in my life.
for anyone worried about the clicks that were made during the reverse resample phase 16:00, it's because the kick hits start a millisecond or two before where ableton places a bar for whatever reason. turn the track delay on for the DS Kick track and set it to like 1-3ms. the larger the number the more likely you won't get many clicks on the hits that start too early, but it also makes it slightly more annoying when the hits that start too late now have silence in front of your slice to midi.
Nice kicks man lowpass 40-70 db behind the first saturation and do some filter peaks inbetween distortions works well for harcore kicks taking out bass before distortion and peaks always bring out mids in kicks and the mega distortion will replace the missing bass
thanks for this nice generator idea, if you put the expression control "device on" to a macro knob you can "stop" randomizing... so you can try complete kick pattern if it sounds nice... with ghosts , probability , etc...
Ned - You are always amazing with the random parameter shenanigans… As I was listening to each unique kick, I was wondering which parameter settings created each kick. Is there a way to save a global preset for a group plugin chain as each new kick is randomized? That way, if you have generated a sequence of 127 kicks, you would have 127 presets to produce those kicks… 🤔
if you have live 11 i suppose you could group everything & map each parameter to its own macro, then press the randomize macro button and save the results you like as presets in the group. not automatic & you lose the random envelopes i guess but yeah, theres prob a better way to do it though u_u
Ned, you must know what I have done with this method today. Instead of slicing to MIDI on these kicks, I looped some of the kicks, double timed the original tempo 240 BPM, sped up the global BPM to around 175 and threw a couple of chopped up amen breaks on top with just a sprinkling of reverb to get some really angry jungle and DnB out of these kinds of kicks.
Now this probably is a stupid question, sorry in advance. I have Live 11 standard for a few weeks now and i was wondering of these effects youre using are all stock in Live? I dont think so, cuz i have only a very small list of effects in my software. Where to buy the ones youre using in this video??
Crackin' stuff!!! Getting some lovely tones & timbres, but I'd love to know what's causing the crazy delayed second transients on some of the kicks in Ned's vid so I can try and create some of them manually...... I've resampled like 500 randomised kicks and got nothing of that nature. Please help. :)
ive been using that free thing 'BLIP' by adding kicks and bass hits and using it to randomize stuff. its not as 'effecty' as this vid. but its super easy and you just randomise every bar use some slower BPMs and you get a sweet 5 -10 min audio, then I chuck it into Live and cut out the stuff that doesnt fit. I made a or started making a 'march of the dead' Otto Von Schirach song, its sweet. But I love this too, make a resample track of it and add it to a IDM song an cut away as you go. swweeet stuff bud. love it
Where do you get the version of Expression Control that takes "random" from MIDI in? I redownloaded M4L essentials to try and force-update it, but it's still lacking that feature. Is it part of a different pack?
@@NedRush hm! I've been using the trial version of 11 while I debate upgrading - but perhaps it's not included w/o a full license. I'll just hack out my own for now. Great demonstration!
Back in the day, it was just: 1. Buy a shitty drum machine 2. Run it through a shitty mixer, with the channel gain turned all the way up so it redlined
this is literally my favorite channel ever and i dont even own ableton
That's where it all starts, i watched videos like this for years before getting a copy myself
Don’t own it? You definitely should
@FUCKSVILLE lol
i didn't 'own' it for like 10 years then it stopped working... so now i own 8 intro which i will probably never update.

"I've got loads of kicks. I've got more kicks than friends"
Every day's a school day! Love these ideas! Thanks again.

such an cool idea sounded insane love the comentairy
I think that little bit of reverb is what makes them sound so great backward, backward verb is wicked for a bit of ghostly anticipation.
Some of your reactions to the kicks has me in stitches. Thanks for the video.
sometimes I watch one of ur vids and immediately go try out the idea for myself. this is one of those times
did a double take when you put the arppegiator on the sampler - crazy how quick everything came together
Wow! This is the best gabber kick tutorial out there, period!
Holy shit this is amazing. Why did I only just now discover this channel!

Would you describe what you mean by double timed please !

Dude, use LFOs with random/sample and hold and sync them to the kick. Does Ableton trial come with max LFOs?
this helped me emptying my guts
