Holy shit, an ableton production video where the creator isn't making fucking "neurobass" or general dance music? My mind was blown in the first ten minutes. Subscribed.
Rob and Sean wouldn't use native instruments and effects, they'd build a self generative virtual modular patch consisting thousands of max instruments they created to be used once only for a 14 hour digital release album on a new audio file type they've encoded thats incompatible with any OS or software that will only be available for 14 hours on a date they're withholding and won't announce when the 14 hours begin.
@@Eichro Literally all of it up until the audio file encoding. They're known to have enormous custom Max patches, and they leaked a bunch of SYSX dumps for their Elektron devices (with I think they use when performing live). From Confield onward, they really went the route of Max patching, hard.
@@Eichro Very.....What they do with software and machines, most people dream of that. Most, if not all of their analog gear and efx are modified as well, and they know them inside out. But I advice you to come with your own unique music, instead of using Autechre as clickbait. Actually I ithink it's quite pathetic behaviour, and electronic music worldwide shows it. Well, they don't .. but I guess also they do? I can imagine Autechre playing this for a minute or so after which some big bass monster enters the room to gnaw on my bones.
Nice sounds and tips. Autechre have been using Max/MSP for years now building ever more complex systems. The tracks almost write themselves these days. Build a hugely complex system, press play then simply edit and layer the results. Looking at some of their patches would probably make your head spin. Some absolutely amazing sound design on the NTS Sessions.
Pretty sure from the 2013 AMA that they put more input while it's playing than just pressing play though. I mean they also do all those live shows and they don't just sit back after pressing play there either.
So sick man. I'm amazed. I have all these tools on my computer, but I had no idea to use 'm like this. Your Aphex Twin video caused me to make a few tracks that very heavily use the techniques you outlined. Thanks for the insipiration!!!
I was waiting for the huge, and I mean HUGE, Tri Repetae-era brass synth riff to appear at the edge of the galaxy, and make us all cry forever and ever and ever. But it didn't.
I'm here now because the AE sets from '16 and '18 just dropped on Spotify. I've been listening to them for years now, and they're clearly centered around "pseudo-reverb Karplus-strong", which is basically what you're doing here. It's nuts that they morph from dischordant reverb drones to straight chords and back again. I've never been able to do THAT with K/S.
I relate to your rant about people calling famous people by their first names so much. I can't go near the aphex twin subreddit because I find it so cringey that everyone is constantly either saying Richard or RDJ.
i love this... thank you for opening my eyes to the fact you really truly don't need anything more than Ableton's built in instruments and FX and some creativity to come up with some amazing sounding stuff!
Seeing someone so very easily and quickly throw together what is, essentially, the same elements and vibe of what was so impressive to us all in the past.....sort of takes some of the magic away. You almost pictured them sweating and agonizing for months, surrounded by clippings and reels of magnetic tape, a wall of old-school physical effects racks, half-eaten two day old pheasant, used syringes, and homemade computers being forced to do things for which they were never intended...in order to achieve such uncommon/unconventional sounds. When in reality, it was just clicking a mouse. Some of the shine is gone.
Im late to the party on this one but this is the SHIZZZ ....... I've learned lots of new tricks from this ....more tools to w!@k over my computer and call it art... which is mainly what I seem to do these days :P Many thanks Mr Rush....xxx
if you dont have sampler and want to try something similar with the random sample offset, just add a bunch of random notes to your piano roll, turn probability down to like 20% for them all and then in simpler go to slice then slice by region and make the regions super high, should start to randomly flick to different positions in the sample.
Wouldn't mind seeing more tips using velocity chains as such...ive enjoyed messing around with similar concepts using operator.... Any other ideas that spring to mind would make for good content...??
You did Squarepusher and many other artists and i was like, "close enough", Autechre, not so much. Great attempt but, not even close to AE. Things like Exai are brilliant because we just don't know what they are doing.
And then He said: " ...so as you can see Drum Rack is the shit, it offers the deepest control and should probably be your last stop for all kinds of 'choppage'..." - Ned Rush, 2017, (excerpt. the almighty sampling tutorial)
Just go to midi effects, and drop in probability, and put velocity after that and do what he does in the video to make the sample offset time skip around in a sampler, or you can use it with anything using MIDI, instrument VSTs, hardware, etc. It’s complicated to explain, but it basically randomizes certain parameters but it’s based on ‘probability’ and not truly ‘random’, but it’s a really cool effect. Just look up a RUclips tutorial on the probability knob, also the arpeggiator + drum racks and ‘random’ midi effects (actually the probability effect might be under midi effect racks or something, my laptop is currently broken so I can’t check for myself but I use the MIDI effects a lot, and enjoy them), if you type it into the search bar itlll come up, but yeah I recommend all of the midi effects for cool and easy to make ‘generative’ music with.
At the end I got Icarus vibes, Sylt/I Tweet The Birdy Electric... Great videos Ned. Love your channel. Have Learned A LOT. So Thank you. Shout from Denmark
Wow really thanks for this vidéo . Now need to do some stuff like , Richard Devine , Clark and Somatic Responses 😂😂 . No seriously thanks , i'm going to play with my Ab now .
Hi dude, great vid! At about 6:30 you say that Autechre likes to fiddle with some kind of synthesis that you can't explain because you don't have time (which is ok really, busy guys have busy lives don't they? I'm sure they do). Anyway, I'm french and I couldn't make out what you were saying, could you right it down plz? Thx again for the vid, lot of fun!

Hello everyone. I’m rewatching this video after two years and it sounds nothing like Autechre at all. Sorry about that.
Actually, blame Autechre.

So many nice techniques to try. Really nice video!

it's a real explosion of happiness this channel🥰 still can't believe it.
Some people won't like it but there are some similar timbres to Autechre's last live releases here. Resonators FTW.
