    Well done Jamie!
There's a missing link which you never addressed though.
The waste that is dumped in the landfills in third world countries generally, is the municipal solid waste which has gone through the process of separation of potentially useful stuff initially. When households throw their garbage out, there are collectors who look for the potentially valuable stuff in them. This happens way in advance before the city comes and collects the final dump.
You should have talked about the possibility of composting of the municipal solid waste (all of the organic garbage is compostable!) as a way to reduce the size of the waste in the landfill. It also helps in separation of toxic stuff like the plastics from the piles in addition to production of excellent quality composts for the farmers... this is an income generation process done in many cities across the world.
The items that are reusable/ recyclable are purchased usually at a lower price from those that are collected and then after a value addition process sold at a higher price. This is very common in third world countries as I said.
The hygiene issues for those that sort garbage in the residential areas is of very high concern. The garbage usually requires large facilities / areas for sorting of such loads. It is imperative not to ignore health issues surrounding garbage management near or in the residential facilities.
    Peace,
    Fellow Pearsonite

4:35-why is talking about Egypt really radical? I'm confused. Just because it's an LEDC, doesn't make a country radical...? But absolutely fantastic talk, thank you Jamie!!!

What about the health of the workers? What about their quality of life? This the model to export?
This model it's only profitable with low-pay employees.

@eerburu Better than 20% unemployment. Health & quality of life? Well unemployment would exacerbate these two problems. Let the markets improve health & quality of life.
