  • In this talk, C Srinivasan beautifully explains how garbage or waste can be utilized properly to the larger benefit of the society through his own personal experiences and projects. He demonstrates how simple steps can help us reduce the larger problem of waste management and garbage disposal through some wonderful examples
C Srinivasan is the Project Director at Indian Green Services. He is an expert in Zero Waste Management across India and his famous Solid and Liquid Resource Model (often called "SLRM Model" or "Vellore Model") has been widely acclaimed as the national model for Zero Waste Management after his success with the hill restoration project at Vellore. He has been involved with many projects in this field and is currently working with a number of states in India towards effective waste management
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at ted.com/tedx

This should be integrated into our school curriculum as a mandatory subject with practicals. We teach how to use but don't teach how to manage the USED.

One of the most intelligent people in the world who has really created a flawless model of his own. Sad people like Mr.Srinivasan are not getting attention as some other useless TED speakers like Love, books, sex etc.
Dont know why so less views. Mr.Srinivasan is one of the best contributors to the Global waste management movement. He should be made the central ambassador and his techniques should be followed by India.

Hello Srinivasan sir. I am proud to have been a part of your SLRM team in Ghazipur District ,UP. But its sad that your suggestions have not yet been implemented. I am confident enough that if the authorities follow your suggestions our city can also be as clean as Warangal.
Hope for it to start soon.

He has so intelligent to develop such a effective model which is world's best model. In India people are doing R&D at their own interests. Govt should implement these kind of innovative models all across the country. One step by Govt. will encourage all hidden innovators of India to come up with their brilliant ideas.

I remember doing a mock project for solid waste management during my community medicine posting. I was so surprised at how sustainable, efficient, low cost and profitable it is. Thank god someone is actually making use of all these simple technologies. Let’s hope we implement it soon in every city

Super!! Super!! Super!! work done by you my friend!!! I thing every literate people read from the books that waste can be recycle like you shown in the video ..... but only you and your organization take it into realization. I think nature has all the solutions in itself, the only thing is recognition. .... .... But I can't understand what kind of education is provided in our schools and colleges today. I thing waste management must be a subject and must be a practical subject.
........ I again congratulate you on your great work. .......

Excellent video! We need more and more people getting into this line of work really to not just get clean streets but even more important, recycle the 'waste' appropriately in order to minimize or even do away with landfills entirely. I think it is possible once people begin to look at it as a profitable enterprise!

HOW RECYCLING DOES DEFINITELY NOT HELP OUR PLANET:
    1. Contamination If there are impurities or toxins on the original
material, like lead, they’ll usually make it through the recycling
process and end up buried in the new product, like say, a soda can.
    Have a nice day
2.hundreds of buildings in Taiwan made from recycled steel have been
    giving people gamma radiation poisoning.
    '' be sure to recycle"
3.The recycling process produces pollutants In 2009 there were about
179,000 waste collection vehicles on the road. The exhaust fromf those
vehicles contains over three dozen airborne toxins.
    '' good ole curb collection''
4.One recycling plant in Washington state produces more toxic emissions
    than any other
factory the next three biggest polluters in the area ae also recycling
    plants.
    ''saving the planet"
    5. When paper is recycled, it’s all mixed together into a pulp. That
    pulp
is washed, cleaned, and then pressed into new paper sheets. During that
process,, inks, cleaning chemicals, and dyes are filtered out into
sludge. The sludge is then sent to a landfill, where it leaches dozens
of toxic chemicals and heavy metals into groundwater. 'nice right?'
'' matter cannot be created nor destroyed''
    6. There are about seven types of plastic that you’ll find in day to day
life, and only two of them are recyclable.
    "' W T F " " O M G "
    7. Plastic is a pretty tricky animal overall, but in all honesty, we
just have no idea what to do with it.
" It costs $4,000 US to recycle one ton of
    plastic "
    8. oil is a pretty major pollutant. So it makes sense to try to recycle
used oil right? Wrong.recycling oil creates even more toxic chemicals
    in the process.
    " really? " " yes really"
    9. Aluminum ? Disappointingly recycled soda cans can’t give you the
quality you need to build an airplane, or even to use in electronic
    circuits. Its just shit aluminum..
"" they never told us THAT "
    10. More aluminum; The average American drinks 2.5 cans of soda per
day. That’s about 778 million cans. If 100,000 cans are recycled every
minute (they are), we’re still about 600 million cans short. And that’s
just in one day So in only one years time, doing the math for you,
    2,100,000,000 cans unrecycled...
