    You guys should look into Pig Brig Hog trap; no need to monitor and drop gates. Much better than drop gates traps.

    • @hollyridgehomestead
      @hollyridgehomestead  Год назад

      My goal for landowners and being a hog trapper is complete Sounder catch. The only way I know to do that so far is to monitor, count and trap them at one time without educating any hogs. The pig Brig does catch hogs but it is not a durable trap. It is also a lot of labor to setup and take down to move for next property. When you trap as many properties as we do, it needs to be easy to use and confirm the entire sounder is eliminated. That’s why we use a Game Changer Trap. Very versatile on different setups, very strong and easy to use.
      Thanks for watching

      @hollyridgehomestead8184 I see. So you are invested in your drop gate hog trap design.
      I have seen videos that the hogs that are close to the drop gates, when they hears the trigger sound, just escape. So, not all hogs get trapped.
      The Pig Brig is made of durable nets (double), and it disassemble in a relatively small pile of nets.
      The fixed cattle panels and gates are cumbersome to move around.
      Usually, when a better technology comes along, most people gravitate to it.
      But, if you are happy with it, it is your business.

    I'm wondering if the noisy traps are going to make it harder to trap hogs in the future. If any are outside that hears and sees the panic, they'll probably be very hesitant to go in one. Why don't the gates have some noise suppression? I saw a soft trap and the hogs didn't even realize they were trapped, however I have my doubts a soft trap would hold up very well.

    • @hollyridgehomestead
      @hollyridgehomestead  Год назад +1

      We catch the whole sounder at once. While conditioning them to the trap, we are doing head counts and observing what boars come in with the sounder. We are not concerned if boars are on the outside when we trap, but will try to catch them at the same time. Every once in a while we will take care of them on the outside with a thermal.

      I have a question wouldn't it be better if you kept the piglets alive and let them grow then kill them, so you can get more meat out of them

    • @hollyridgehomestead
      @hollyridgehomestead  Год назад +1

      @@peacekeeperjfsr some people do that. Here you have to have a permit to transport wild feral pigs and then a permit to hold wild feral pigs. But we also have so many that there’s plenty for who wants them.

    I wonder, does the state pay you to do this or is this out of your own free will because the state doesn't have any "proper" solution to the hog problem? I've seen how rampant these big bastards can do and it crazy how despite so many being hunted down, they feel like they haven't gotten smaller, but bigger and bigger. Also, is this type of trap legal in your state (like you won't get any issues with people with badges showing up)?

    • @hollyridgehomestead
      @hollyridgehomestead  Год назад +1

      So the state does not pay me. But that would be nice. I would say 75% of the trapping we do is no charge. I however do charge for trapping at the appropriate time.
      These type of cellular traps are 100% legal in our state. To dispatch them you have to have a basic hunting license. Hope for that to change one day.

    i saw a small one (hog) in one of your videos,that tried to bite your Daughters leg !,as she gave it a boot ,....i thought ? "i was a Postman for 20 yrs " and even the small dogs can give you a nip that smarts! (although she gets to dispatch the guilty party , it still don't tickle!. (as for me , i couldn't even mention it back at the station! (for all the laughing ,that my Fellow "Posties" would do!) ya might tell her to keep 6 , the small bites can really bug ya , anyways ..bye for now and god bless a good Tasty BBQ hog for ya !
