An important thing to know is that sperm cells can live up to 5 days in the uterus and the egg, after it's released from the fallopian tube, lives 24 to 48 hours.

She isn’t diagnosing or treating anyone, and she never has. If this doesn’t apply to you, that’s fine. As a 27 year old virgin, around a year ago it hit me on the head how shockingly little I knew about my intimate area and reproduction (embarrassing for myself). I have been researching and tracking my cycle. Yes, all of this should be taught in schools, and I also think it is important that women and men learn about their own bodies but also the other sex to, so we can have a great understanding of how each other works, and also to know each other better x

Girl yes, it’s been around for ages. It’s formally called fertility awareness. But I think it should be noted that even with perfect consistent use this method is only effective about 70% of the time. To say that this is your type of birth control can be misleading to your audience and I worry that many can be lead astray from the facts by viewing this. I understand it works for you, however to promote it to a large audience is rather dangerous in my opinion. You got your coin w/ a sponsorship, but I encourage you to be a consumer of research and educate yourself so you can promote a more wholesome educational video for your viewers. There are other methods you can add to basal temp monitoring such as assessing your cervical mucus. Lastly, I would like to just throw it out there that many things can throw off your temperature and make this type of tracking difficult, something as simple as a common cold.

I understand wanting to be all natural but I worry about the new hype over people only using a calendar/tracker to prevent pregnancy. From a logical standpoint, I think this probably has as much efficacy as the pullout method tbh. Just like the pullout method works for some, this works for some too. @@imakuro9066 Im an African and many African women use tracking and in works perfectly fine. There are also many other reasons why some people have 5-10 children. One being the more children the more earners to make money in the family. And some aren't taught how to track they're cycle. Some its a sign of varility. Just like your opinion doesn't give you the right to speak for the women it does work for. Contraception causes more problems than it helps keeping babies away. And I know from personal experience and research. In this day and age anyone who takes anyone's opinion at face value without research is abit silly. So helping those who are researching by telling them what works for you gives them an idea of their chances. It still comes down to research and your own decision. I suffered with nearly every womb and period related illness from starting my period at 10. My 2 daughters were both 9. The last one is still 9 the oldest 21 and she suffers so much every month because she chose to believe the so called expert Dr that said taking the pill will fix her pains and heavy bleeding. I've had coils, injections, implants and most of the pills out there. The only thing that worked was changing my diet and using natural tampons or a cup. it took 31yrs to learn and track my body. I'm 41 now and feel in control of my life. BTW the coil caused fibroids no matter what any Dr says.

I've been using this method for 4 years, always right on the dot. There are some cycles I'm irregular and my device still gives me the correct information, and even tells me when im going to get my period, and if you are planning on getting pregnant it can confirm pregnancy before you even take a test. It's amazing. I recommend it to everyone over 18+. If you are not in a monogamous relationship you should be using condoms anyway.

25% of women will get pregnant within 1 year of using the rhythm method. Over 10 years 57% of women Will get pregnant on this method (Ross,1989). I think this is an important statistic for women to know when making an informed choice. As someone who accepted this sponsorship you should have added the cons of this method too, such as it’s success rate like actual forms of contraception. This is not a form of birth control, however hormone free birth control does exist like the copper coil, condoms, diaphragms, spermicide ect. Reproductive health should be discussed with the appropriate professionals & then you can enhance it by using an app. I think that’s the most responsible approach

    • @superbella2297

Well the copper coil one (IUD) actually contains hormones. The interaction between progestins and these receptors is a major source of the unwanted side effects seen in hormonal contraception and hormone replacement therapy, such as the increased risk of breast cancer and cardiovascular disease. But diaphragms and spermicide are hormone free !

This is not the rhythm method

    • @KelseySong
      @KelseySong Год назад +1

That study is over 30 years old and likely was published using old methodologies that may be considered archaic. The rhythm method was flawed because it assumed every woman had a 28 day cycle, which as we now know is not the case. There was likely more user error as well, especially if the means woman had to track were just marking days on the calendar. “FAM”- standing for fertility awareness- is an umbrella term for hormonal free birth control done by tracking your cycle. Techniques can range from tracking discharge, calendar days, temperature, and other symptoms. This older study likely just used the calendar days method while also assuming every woman was on a 28 day cycle. That’s going to be way less effective than women tracking, say, their discharge and temperature. A good thing is that the FAM method can be used in conjunction with other birth control methods (like condoms or abstinence) while the women is ovulating or close to that window to boost its efficacy. I believe the range of effectiveness is anywhere from 75%-99% depending on how well the user tracks. If you look at more recent studies using more reliable FAM methods you will see how effective it is.

That's not true, ppl who are actively trying to get pregnant know that you don't have the same rate or risk of pregnancy. You typically have 2 fertile days bc ovulation doesn't last the whole month. Some ppl like to count the whole week you are fertile since technically sperm can live up to 5 days.
If you had the same risk of pregnancy every single day then it wouldn't take most ppl 6 months to a yr to get pregnant when actively trying.

I really like your videos, especially the curly hair ones, as this is how I came across your youtube channel, but on this topic I have to agree with what the majority are saying. It is purely an ad and it is not safe to promote this type of method to your young audience. I used this method last year to find out when I was ovulating because I wanted a baby. I am now 28 weeks pregnant, but I don't think this is a method that can work for young girls. It may work for people who are in a stable relationship. Also, not everyone ovulates according to the standard (14 days after your period) and apps like this are based on standard measurements that do not apply to everyone. Also, it is easier to use this method as you grow older, but when you are a young person, 18 years old, you are more fertile and taking into account that sperm can live in the body for 5 days, I would say this is not a safe method. Another super important aspect is that, it seems like you are promoting unprotected sex, which again, is ok for someone in a committed relationship, but we must also think about STDs.

I as well use this method to prevent conceiving but I felt like this video was more to promote the app than why tracking your cycle is important. If you're promoting this method at least discuss how important it is to consider different factors such as you must have been asleep for 3 hours prior to taking a temperature, you're not suppose to stretch and barely move to get an accurate temperature and traveling due to time zones can also not give you an accurate temperature reading. I appreciate your video to promote a healthy way to prevent pregnancy but it would be good to share more details of how difficult it could be to get accurate temperature readings.

She is not advertising this from the blue nor is she saying to do this method with no research. The ignorance in the comments is ridiculous. Honestly alba you should have the comments under you're approval because this is crazy how many people think you are just promoting some random app even though you expressed in the video that this is something you use and has been working for you.

Great video. I tried hormonal birth control 21 years ago after having my first child and it lasted all of two weeks because of the side effects. We went without using any form of birth control for 15 years before having our second child and continued that way until our third child was conceived. After the third, I tried a non-hormonal birth control method that caused many problems for me and had it removed 14 months later. Since then I have been tracking my periods without any pregnancies or issues. I'm also feeling great.

I see a lot of negative comments calling this irresponsible and just advertisement when it’s not true. As a medical student there is a lot of information I’ve learned that my general community does not know. Did you know when your provider mentions birth control it is also a form of “advertisement” for pharmaceutical companies? I have been using coitus interruptus (pull out) and ovulation cycle monitoring for about 7 years and not one pregnancy. There is literally only ONE day a month you can get pregnant. The app will give a range of fertile days though since it can only estimate . I am in a committed loving relationship (married) so this method is not for the uncommitted and the immature. You learn that both you and your partner take responsibility for preventing pregnancy. If you know you and your partner aren’t responsible then by all means keep putting artificial hormones into your body!

You really don’t need natural cycles or to pay anything. Keeping track of your cycle days and fertility signs (cervical fluid, cervix position and temp) is enough. To be honest, my husband and I used the calendar and condoms to avoid for over a year and got pregnant the first month we tried because we knew our fertile window.

You are so right about the level of sex ed they give in schools. I educate my children about this, I have 3 girls and 2 boys. It's the method I used to space them out over an 18 year period. Without all the technology though. My only advice is to remember that with this method you have to be very careful if you don't have regular periods, right after having a baby or if you have any irregularity in your cycle.

For someone like me who is in a similar situation as Alba, where you don't necessarily want to have a child but it wouldn't be terrible if it occurred, this is helpful. For someone who Alba explains is 18 years or younger, or, common sense would deem you to think, doesn't have a regular period or partner this is not a wise method. That's it. For the number of comments criticizing her for giving this advice to young girls, please take a moment to use your common sense and knowledge of this youtuber before persecuting her. For this reason she was cautious about making this video. Had she not made this video, I wouldn't have had any hope for looking further into other methods of birth control. I'm sure there are other women who watched this and felt inspired to learn more about their bodies and other methods of birth control because we have appreciated Alba's look on life for some time. That's what her videos are for. To inspire, help inform, and get people involved in their health and beauty. What she's saying is not gospel. It's information to get you moving in the direction you want. That's how anyone's health advice should be taken unless it's coming from a personal physician. Only someone who has known your body and gotten to know it over time like you, yourself has can tell you what's best for it.

This is the method I’ve used and I’ve been tracking my cycle for 6 years now. I would suggest that only people who are married and/or in a committed relationship do this method and who will not mind if they get pregnant. I ended up getting pregnant twice because we ended up having time off from work during my fertile period. So even though the pregnancies were not planned, we knew they would happen. I will say though the longer that you track your period, the more accurate it gets. Because I was tracking mine for so long, I knew how long my cycle was and my period always came the day the app predicted. I also wouldn’t recommend it if you just had a baby. I’m 18months postpartum and my period just came back 3 months ago and have been all over the place. I guess not having a period for over 2 years will throw off your cycle completely. I use the clue app now bc the app I used prior to pregnancy is still going off my old cycle.

Its not the same as the ryhthm method. Checking you basal waking temp, cervical mucous, cervical firmness etc really works. We are not ovulating everyday and I really think our education system dropped the ball big time by not teaching female reproductive biology in depth. It is an EXCELLENT option for those who dont want hormonal control or a copper IUD (the short time I had my IUD I loved it but alas it didnt love me) You can chart by hand as well. @AB29113 5 лет назад +1

Alba! Temperature and period tracking are not accurate enough and it is very risky to promote those two things alone as being more effective than condoms. The reason being is there are two more elements that are extremely telling of ovulation, and when used in conjunction with period tracking and taking temps, are about as accurate as you can get. Those are: cervicle fluid (quantity, texture, consistency, and opacity) and cervix signs (height and texture). Both of these change drastically as you approach ovulation. Tony Weschler's "Taking charge of your fertility" is considered to be the bible on the topic of tracking ovulation, preventing and planning pregnancy. Let us know if you read it! It really is an indispensable tool that you are missing. Cheers!

However I think the hang up is the fact that we live amongst humans now who aren't very self sustainable nor want to be self responsible in such matters. Another thing I failed to mention in my last comment is that when men hit age 30 and older, they no longer produce new sperm daily, but every three days. So men who have sex very frequently each day or even daily can create health issues for their prostate gland as this gland naturally begins to enlarge at age 30 regardless of health status. Performing sex daily when age 30 or older for a man can make the prostate enlarge as well. To help keep the growth of the prostate healthy and balanced is for a man to consume 50mg of natural organic zinc daily(ex: pumpkin seeds). Zinc is found in the thymus and prostate gland in men, and can also prevent the prostate from shrinking along with preventing prostate cancer. Saw Palmetto and Nettle Root prevents testosterone from being converted into the enzyme that causes prostate cancer. Knowing these things can help with pregenancy or pregnancy prevention for people who are married and living a certain type of natural healthy lifestyle.

I do this in combination with the diaphragm; and I recommend to anyone trying to go natural with their birth control and definitely are not in a place to be pregnant, to combine this method with something else like condoms or in my case, like I said, the diaphragm.
I use a different app, but regardless what app you use, you’ll find that it does much more than keeping track of your periods and fertile days. Knowing what changes in my body throughout the month has helped me understand my femininity better, but more importantly I can keep track of my mental health as well. I can differentiate what my PMS is doing vs what my depression is doing; something I lost connection with when I went period free with the arm implant. I would recommend anyone even if they are using hormonal birth control to have an app like this just to check-in with yourselves and your bodies.

People are probably clicking on this for hormone-free birth control options but here’s a shameless plug for the Kyleena IUD! It locally releases hormones in your uterus, so no mood swings. It’s small enough for women who haven’t experienced pregnancy (can also work for those who have!). It’s SUPER effective. Yes, of course, there are risks, but if it doesn’t work out for you, it’s reversible. I’ve only experienced minor cramping (due to the insertion) and WAYYY lighter periods! No weight gain/loss also! In some ways I think of breastfeeding as the best birth control after having a baby but of course I do not rely on just that. Did you experience this? When did your period return? Did breastfeeding make it fluctuate at all? 10 months still breastfeeding with 3rd! :)

Then she made a mistake. It’s highly reliable when used properly and you know when you’ve made a mistake where you could get pregnant

Rose Gold it’s traditionally successful for both. The same way a woman can use this to get pregnant it can be used to prevent pregnancy by doing the opposite.

I don't trust my body lol I have a high stress job (middle and high school orchestra director), I get a cold from time to time, and I do get stressed and busy, I travel for work, and I'll just stick with the good 'ol pill. My to-do list is long enough and the best I can do right now is have a pill that says Wednesday LOL. I'm a mess.

I agree. I have been using the lady comp for 5 years. Simply taking my temperature and learning that time period each month that I can get pregnant. Now I know my body and I know these times without using the lady comp.

I love this but it doesn’t work for everyone! Body and fertility types when it comes to women.. my body is not easy much to get pregnant but my sister in law, its crazy she can get pregnant fast because her genes support it, so her doctor told her to not use this method but go for other options such as pills, ..., etc.
Again, its great i love this but it doesn’t work for everyone. You got to understand your body.

Zia Jamal - yes very true. Some women have unbalanced hormone issues and lifestyle triggers that affects their body from standard function and health issues can conflict with fertility. I have family members with hormone imbalances and never get a monthly period due to their health so this method is not something they can rely on. I already live a particular lifestyle, and very stable with health and sexual relationship so for me it’s a perfect fit. None the less it’s important women know this option exist because most only assume the pill or iud is the only option available so this is something to consider not a one size fits all.

When i was younger and looked at this video i really didn’t understand it and thought it was rubbish.. however after that i got the advice from my doctor to get a hormone IUD.. 2 awful years later.. i took it out because i educated myself more about the natural way and i learned a lot of down sides about synthetic hormones. And now i also use almost the same system as you ( daysy ). I am so happy!!! Only benefits and to know how my body works personally gave me more connection with my body and i respect and listen to it more and more!

No child for 8 years and all you did was check your temperature and track your ovulation sis this is not realistic for your general audience. I see what you tried to do but this can be very misleading and gone get a lot of ppl pregnant thinking this method is effective.

Just what has worked for me! I’m married with 3 kids. Pull-out method. Anyone else. Totally not recommending this for anyone else, but it’s worked consistently for me for 7 years. Don’t try it! Just wondering if anyone else has had the same experience. I’m married an would welcome another child; although, not planning to have anymore.

Checkout the book "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" by Toni Weschler. She explains the other two missing elements to track WITH temps and period dates. They are cervical mucous and cervix position. Altogether you will be certain when you are ovulating.

I have a hormonal IUD now and I DEFINITELY would prefer to go a more natural route. I'm sort of terrified though. Feels like I'm stuck between a rock and hard place because my husband and I really aren't in a position to have a baby if it accidentally happened but I don't like having my IUD. It's been a hard process for me since the beginning. I don't want to be TMI but with this method, do you still need to "pull out"? That was the method we used for around 9 years without me being on any birth control but a friend of mine did that and got pregnant (I don't think she tracked her ovulation at all) :/ Thank you Alba for informing me of this method and I'm excited to dive into further research!

Hi Jenn. Ovulation (LH) tests do not influence the effectiveness of Natural Cycles as birth control, it may, however, lead to more green days. What we've also seen is that using LH also leads to more dedication which always improves all use of birth control - the more dedicated you are, the better. You can also read more information about it here:

A range of things can affect your temperature. There's copper IUD'S if you don't want to be on the pill / be horomones free. What's disappointing is the amount of women or young girls that have seen this information. Saying it's more effective than a condom is irresponsible.
