Didn't like it at first but keep coming back to listen. Simon has a huskier voice but he'd sound weird if he still sounded 25, really love it now. He sings the circle like he is mind. Steve plays every note like a master.
Listen to Weller's version of this song from the "Making of 'All Mod Cons'" DVD, it's uploaded on YT, I think: Paul is singing with a similar husky voice and it also suits the song. They're no Mark Lanegan, but it has a charm...

He's easily the best singer, in the dictionary meaning of the word, of all frontmen from the 90s. Not a talking vocalist, a gimmicky singer... Simon is up there on record in the same level as Chris Farlowe, 80s Paul Weller, Tim Buckley... powerful voice.

You're just giving an opinion Ash, it might be your honest opinion but that's all it is. I love this take and I think Simon's voice sounds beautiful, the little imperfections make it all the more real and soulful. Just my honest opinion though 🙂

I suppose cos it's a cover of a Weller-song and Foxy's always had some of that Welleresque tone being a fan and all.
As much as I adore the scene, I just think this was awful. His voice is fucked, he's hitting shit loads of flat notes and he just doesn't really put any effort into making it sound good. Yeah yeah! die hard fans will blindly Believe Simon Fowler has aged like fine wine but the reality is that hes aged more like Jim Davidson on 60 Marlboros a day...but hey! Foxy was still a fucking boss back in the day when the classics were being written in stone.
