  • Hey all,
Whilst exploring the Underwater Pet Expo, I sat down to listen to Dr Brett's presentation all about Ich, White Spot and Flukes (Gill Flukes & Skin Flukes).
I found it super interesting and I couldn't help but ask if I could record it to share it with you all.
Really hope you enjoy it as much as I did, if so please check out their channel over at / @aquariumschool

How cool to get this sort of insight from a literal vet, no doubt a lot of what we try is completely ineffective.

Okay this further sells me on wanting a microscope for accurate diagnosis and quality quarantine screening prior to potential exposure in display tanks.

Thank you so much Blake for sharing this with everyone!
It is very comforting to know what I learned back in the 60's is still relevant, especially the treatment process. Again thank you! 😉

Great video and content as usual.
Did the vet elaborate on dissolving prazi in alcohol and what does he mean to use a sieve?

Excellent! I would love to see you do a video(or series) about how you treat your fish with medications available to you in Australia. I know potassium permanganate, methylene blue, and salt are all some people can get. If you can get something else that works, what is it? I am going to do a video on my channel for goat dewormer (fenbendazole 10%) and mixing it to treat an aquarium.

Yeah I use panacur 20 for fenbendazole. Good idea, might have to do that.

@@BlakesAquatics if you were ever looking for a series of video ideas, what LRA mentioned would be ace.. 99% of the medical info out there isn't much use to Australians.. you did mention the 5 you keep on hand a while back, but when to use them is always a challenge!

@@BlakesAquatics amazing!! I have a feeling some of the meds available in the United States are going to be hard to come by in the next few years with legislatures getting involved and bacteria resistant to current antibiotics. They don’t want people buying antibiotics (for animals) and treating themselves because that’s usually how resistant strains of bacteria come about; antibiotics are not used in the right dose and for too short of a time. This leaves a few surviving bacteria that are resistant to whatever you used. It’s a bad situation.

Would a u.v.c light stop the waterborn stages of these pests?
