    This was a great talk, thank you for hosting this interview! I really value a variety of sources to deepen my understanding of this hobby. And I love spoiling my fish through good food, so I may need to order some of his!
    Speaking of food, does anyone here think it's worth it to freeze foods to make it last longer? I'm planning to replace dry foods every 6 months or so because I know it can go stale and lose nutrients, but if I can make it last longer I'd like to.

      @@BlakesAquatics oh my bad, I meant to just say freezing. Like chucking it in the freezer in an air tight bad. Silly phone!

    what is the best temperature to get the least diseases/parasites, I heard 28

    • @GeraldBassleer
      @GeraldBassleer 3 месяца назад

      Depends on the kind of parasite or bacteria BUT do not use this as a general 'treatment' since some parasites or bacteria do much better in 28°C! I never used this method= too risky! I use the correct medicine after a correct diagnosis!

    • @AgxntAqua
      @AgxntAqua 3 месяца назад

      The best temperature for the least amount of parasites is species dependent, no single answer unfortunately. But generally accepted that 78-82ish is good for most tropical fish.

    • @AussieRic
      @AussieRic 3 месяца назад

      @@GeraldBassleer yes but if you had to choose a temperature to minimize the future bacteria/parasite population possibilities, I assume 28c would be the best bet.

    • @AussieRic
      @AussieRic 3 месяца назад

      @@AgxntAqua yes overall in general for the bulk of species kept in aquariums, the bit higher teperature reduces "majority" of nasties growth/mutiplying, not only that but higher temp overall increases metabolism & then growth rates of fish.

    • @GeraldBassleer
      @GeraldBassleer 3 месяца назад

      @@AussieRic I do not agree! Not a general rule for control of diseases! A disaster for bacterial infections, especially Columnaris! There are a few exceptions where parasites could reproduce faster (like ICH) but the medicine is needed to kill but the secondary bacterial infection will explode with
      28°C and kill the fish. I have seen the best positive reports with 28°C or higher on controlling Spironucleus (Hexamita) in Discus fish...when no bacterial infection is involved!
