It's frustrating that most people don't want to talk about these things, the deeper philosophical questions, existence and meaning. These videos are great really. Gives some sort of explanation to life and how we feel.
I think it's pretty hard to have good conversations about life because you have to think really long to get good conclusions (I don't even think you can get conclusions out of it, I suppose theories is a better way of saying it), and I think it can be really hard to put things like these in words without writing it down because a lot of it is so complicated. I say a lot of I think because it is how I feel about things and it's not the same for everyone hahaha
i dont think we have any reason to believe that 'deep' conversations are required to have a good life. you should be frustrated that most people arent into philosophy as much as you should be frustrated that most people arent into playing YuGiOh: its just not for everyone
plus, youd have to draw boundaries between what is deep and what is not, which is hard and unnecessary
i think critical thinking and self-reflexion are useful inasmuch as they reveal to you what you truly want, let you take better decisions and make you more focused inside our fast-paced and overwhelming life
one does not need to be well read on ethics or metaphysics to feel meaningful and happy
im glad, though, when people become interested in these things - as i am that you and the people who watch these vids are
we just cant push it down people's throats. not liking philosophy or 'deep questions' does not make someone less valuable.
and this is coming from a philosophy major!
İf you can't someone to talk to about those questions you should start writing about them..
I am.
but only as long as you do not attach yourself to any philosophical school of thought.
Generally most people are glued to their own beliefs and cant take the truth that world is bigger than what they imagine.
still, reply to this text. I am sure we can have some great conversations.
Exactly! When I try to talk about these things with my friends I’m always labeled as an over thinker. :(
I watched this on double speed in order to “waste less time”.
I do that with so many videos. Makes me feel more efficient 😂
Lmao
Eric Burkenbine clever but doesn’t that contradict Seneca’s point? Using time to pursue philosophy and wisdom was the antithesis of wasted time, according to him.
He's already talking about a tricky subject very fast, so I'd say even without knowing you that at 2x speed you're getting so little of it it's wasted time par excellence.

I've thought this since I was 10 years old, since as soon as I started to think about why we were in school from 9:00am until 4:00pm EVERY DAY when it would only take maybe 5 weeks to learn all the info you need for the end of year exams. And when my parents told me that the bank owns your home until you pay it off. And that when you leave school in most jobs you are not entitled to more than 2 months of holidays a year. So you go to work every day and only get the time your employer chooses to give you off. You don't get to decide. How can people think they're free?? They're delusional but I'm the crazy one for thinking it.
I don't remember anything from school waste of time
I agree man, I have thought about this a lot of times too, but what would you change about this society to make it better. I mean we live pretty easy, we can buy food and other stuff to survive. But if you have a population this big, what would you change to make it work out for everyone?
Yung October
You see, that’s where everything gets tricky. We’re all understanding and perceiving the world from our own level of conciousness. We have grown very far apart from what it means to exist and be human. Imagine a world with of pure connection and pure action and deep understanding of the self and how we are infinitely connected to each other and the universe, imagine this is understood and put into practice by all of humanity. There would be no rich or poor, there would be no war, the world would work together in harmony. It’s very radicle, most can’t even fathom or entertain the idea because of their level of conscious perception. Those who have seen the vision, know that it can exist.
@@samhigdon543 nice answer but I don't think a lot of people are at a level of conciousness to comprehend that and I doubt that there will be a time when they ever will.
@@samhigdon543 and where would our food come from and would we still go to space and colonize other planets and stuff like that?
"Wasted time or well spent time is all the same when viewed at a sufficient distance outside of it."
A pretty contradicting perspective that I agree with.
They only contradict if you're not outside of it.
From the outside looking in, you see that how you spend your life, can be relatively argued as just as meaningful either way you take.
To spend time making memories with friends with or without using your phones, or studying for classes instead of hanging out with friends so you have a good job n family in the future, or practicing your instrument to become a great musician. He says after the sentence you quoted, that it's only when we step back and see from an outside perspective that we can then decide the best outcome for our lives, what do we really want. And from there, your choice, what it may be, is at least yours knowing, and that any contentions with your consciousness will cease by claiming your action with integrity and ownership.
@@LostSoulAscension so..what is that "being a great musician"....or....being great al all???
Also agree, but you are not looking on it from outside , you're living it, and if you really waste your time you're going to soon found out that you don't feel good, or happy, or full field, so to you it's not the same. I didn't know where to start, so i just want to mention that you could discuss happiness as the only true gold in life, and the thing you experience as only real thing. Of course, you could also argue about what is wasted time.
@@AlexTorres-qv3hv it means that you can do what you love for living in that contest, everything else is relative.
I would argue that there is no perspective "outside" of time (or space)

It's really frustrating, if I just leave everything and start to live life in present, like enjoy the present, I don't think I just can't. Just have in mind that Seneca thought and said this two thousand years ago, imagine what he would have to say if he lived nowadays in our overconsumption society with social networks and all that bullshit
@Intelligently Stoopid your name is ironic with what you're saying
Says someone on a social network.
but our current system is based on their system from 2000 years ago?
he would want to go back to the past
@Intelligently Stoopid His description of the Roman society shows that not much has changed. Back then you also had the usual traps that make us waste our lives. overindulging in sex, alcohol. Wasting our energy for a better higher status or in an endless law suit..trying to be loved or approved by people who turn out to be absolute idiots. Seneca himself was ambivalent. He was thought to be the richest man of the Roman Empire. That's what make his books so interesting. He knows first hand where greed, ambition, lust, useless quarrels lead us.
Since I started my journey into stoicism I really don't want to impress anyone anymore It fascinates me how everyone has accepted the same cycle of work entertainment sleep eat repeat and really don't have any desire for deeper understanding to life. There's so much in the life to learn than to really living a life full of illusion.
Discovered this channel today and I'm so glad I did. I love these conversations. It truly is intellectually stimulating to read posts where individuals are elaborating upon these philosophical ideas. Quite frequently I find myself becoming frustrated with so many people. It seems we live in a world filled with humans who care more about what Kylie Jenner is doing rather than what they are doing with their own life. I feel alone at times because it is difficult to find others who enjoy having these types of conversations. I think I found my people on youtube.
Same here.. here is where my people are... welcome!

The best times to live for me is back in the carefree days of a teenager spending the summer months with friends and family, swimming in the pool by day and playing nintendo by night. Occasional bike rides at night as well. Warm weather, warm (bbq) food, warm friends, warm memories. I felt like one of the lucky ones back then.
I'm a teenager rn and I haven't started my life yet, I feel like I live inside my head and experience everything from a distance. Contrary to you I cannot wait till I grow up so I can get out of this loop. I hope that once I'm on my own ill be able to enjoy my life and do the things that I've always wanted to.
OTAKU-すでに死んで I’m also a teenager, here’s the twist. You may not be able to do the things you want to do and you might crave the comfort of where you are now QUICKLY after you join the workforce. People will tell you that you missed your best years, that now it's all going to be trouble and responsibility. But truth be told, no experience is ever totally wasted. Many consider adolescence to be the best time of one's life because it was for them, because they were happy and careless and had no worry in the world. But then were struck hard with adulthood, and experienced crisis much later on. Now you have a chance to grow and work on your life philosophy already! You can work through this stuff now, learn to enjoy little things and live in the moment, and fly over to a happy life as a grown up. So start living, but don't feel too pressured to live your teenage years before they're over. You can be happy later too, I'm sure of that. Best wishes pal!!

Life is not short. It's the longest thing you will ever do.
Time is not linear and we are not meant to live life knowing when we expire. There are things that we are meant to take for granted so that we can grow on a deeper more consciously aware level. Most people aren’t wasting their time (whatever time really means) they are creating a journey of experiences and perceptions. Life isn’t meant to be embraced everyday like tomorrow could be our last. It is meant for us to explore these experiences in a multitude of emotions, states and speeds. Nothing is wasted, including our time.
That's pretty deep
Truth
Dmt experience teach you this as well?? Great post
Time is a concept we are unable to grasp until it is often to late.
Nothing is a waste but that doesn't mean there are not better uses
For example engaging in something fruitless still has it's purpose as an experience and form of weak solace but there are better uses for time. This however does not mean the aforementioned task useless but should be managed and replaced according to hindsight

Most of the therapists I had were pathetic and dumb and didn't know what they were doing there as much as myself. The people around me are no solace. Solitude is better but still bad. Most of books attempting to alleviate psychological suffering seem naive and make me angry. Meds helped but were like freezing my brain to get rid of a heart ache. -Christ Jesus, Matt11:28-30 NKJV
I have been trying to find a bible in pdf that i could read. But have trouble finding one approved by the vatican. Do you happen to know where i could download it?
11 minutes 47 seconds worth of time well spent
Stoicism has taught me to stay calm in adversity. Thanks for the insightful content!
This channel is amazing! Thank you for this content!
i feel like i can relate to all fields of philosophies, especially stoicism. so weird yet fascinating :0
Life is short when you compare it to eternity
Valuable lessons here from an ancient philosopher. Now I'd like to think that I have all the time in the world and to live life to the full. And at the end of each day, I can smile and have a good night's sleep. Not forgetting to say thank you.
I watched it again instantly to know and create meaning of each n every word.
Great work !
There's no such thing as a wasted life, just a life spent doing some things instead of others. It ends and we all return to the void, after all.
When you can tell me the meaning of life, then you can tell me I'm wasting my life. Until then, you're just guessing like everyone else.
Regrip and Rip meaning has no meaning
@@Satanic-Coper What do you mean by that?

You should try watching TV
thousand*
Nic 19 no one watches tv anymore
i struggle with reconciliating the fact that it is probable that i might die tomorrow and the fact that it is also probable that i might not.
one has to do things that dont bring instant gratification because big goals take time... though if we this to the extreme we end up with a workaholic-like mentality and dont actually enjoy life
on the other end, 'living in the moment' might also be pernicious: just doing what pleases u right now may result in a frivolous life, no accomplishments, no actual substance but the superfluous
how have you guys dealt with this? surely it'll be interesting to hear different methods
I say live and screw the rest, you’re never gonna get back the time you wasted in either cases.
thank you for making these videos. I find your channel to be wonderful. I very much appreciate what you are doing.
Incredibly inspirational. Thank you.
I wish I understood this at 25 years old instead of 55 years old.
I'm 24 and I wish I understood this at 19.
So my interpretation is that , especially during this lockdown period
I have atleast 10 available hours for study everyday
Today If I don't give all I have and study cause tonight I might go to sleep and never wake up regretting why I never studied good like my friends
I am telling you
Distraction is a BITCH
It will chip you of your confidence, energy and self esteem if you succumb to it
How will you regret something if you never wake up?
Fair enough, but personally I would regret not doing what I enjoy.
I always look forward to new videos you post. these are amazing
Great video man! You really know how to construct a very dynamic narrative with awesome insights
Life is not short, we are just sleeping 1/3 of the time.
This makes me wonder what i would do in such an unusual time as we have now with the lockdown it i knew that i would die in a week. Since i can't even really meet people or anything, i guess i would just rent a cool car and drive over the alps with it.
that was beautifully said and edited, thank you!
This channel mentions the philosophy of time a lot and I welcome the reminder as it makes me do things i usually wouldn't do and i become more productive because of it
Thank you calming voice for allowing myself to ask out the love of my life
