I have mine for 1 month or so, and I already did a trip all along north of Spain and Portugal. I cannot be more happy with the choice, although mine is the Yaris Cross Style version, but is pretty much similar to base + larger media screen and a few more gadgets.
I own a YC as well, but with the heated seats. I though they were quite useless, but you have to think it that way: in winter combustion engine is the only source of heat to get the cabin warm. So your mileage will drop as soon as you requires a bit of temperature to the A/C. With heated seats, which are electric, you can keep a cooler temperature of the inside, thus allowing the combustion engine to stay stopped more. Instead of 22° you go for 17° and heated seats gives the extra needed to feel comfortable. Just a heads up. PS: for the pause/play, did you try to keep pressed the MODE button on the steering wheel? The one switching sources? It actually mutes the source. I don't recall now if the source is being stopped or only silenced (if it can, of course, radio get silenced). Give it a try.
Extremely efficient vehicles - the smaller tyres improve the ride. Not a vehicle to stir the senses for a petrol-head or people who want a fun sporty ride... but a safe efficient comfortable family vehicle. Bullet proof reliability too.
I have the 23 model excel, regularly see 68/70 mpg in every day driving, plus it has all the toys, it’s a Toyota, I’m sure stuff will still be working 10 years from now..
Have Toyota sorted the 12v battery issue. Goes flat if car not used for a few weeks. Toyota recommend that you drive the car for at least 1 hour a week to keep 12v battery alive.
It’s a generic hybrid and EV issue. I don’t think an hour a week is unreasonable. And you don’t even have to drive it. Just turn the car on for 10 mins once a week to recharge the 12V. I’m with the manufacturers here.
I've seen on Toyota forums people saying they've been unable to start their Yaris Cross after leaving it parked on the driveway for just a couple of days, also applies to the Yaris as well. Toyota just tell them to go on a long drive once a week or use a solar panel trickle charger when the car is parked. Shouldn't need to do that with a brand new car. My 7-year old petrol Yaris still has it's original battery and has never needed charging and has never let me down, even when it's been left on my drive all week.
No, not really. As an owner of one of them, I came across the snag last winter, when the temperature was often around -6 °C overnight, with limited use over a week or two. The 12V battery is squeezed under the back seat in the Yaris, and is only around 30 or 35Ah @ 20 °C - the capacity being a fair bit less when its cold. If you want to learn more about it this person in N Wales has a lot about it here: www.youtube.com/@paul_nwsxs While I do use a small Halfords solar maintainer solar panel to reduce the risk, I also occasionally top it up using a Black & Decker charger. On one occasion, that device produced an error message to the effect that at least one of the cells would not charge properly, which resulted in me taking to the dealer, which replaced the battery with a new one under warranty. The underlying reason why I have a proper battery charger is that, years ago, I ran a Honda car that flattened it’s battery overnight from time to time. It was a large 70 Ah one, being a diesel engine one. The nature of the fault was that one of the Bosch manufactured units had a software fault, which sometimes resulted in things not shutting down properly. Ironic given that Bosch invented the CANBUS system to save cable. I learnt about the nature of that fault as I know someone who worked in the Honda factory then.
As long as car has Apple Car play and is hybrid these are my priorities. Renault Arkana has all the tech I need and heated seats and steering wheel😊. Thanks for your review. Mid 50’s to the gallon for me.
Good, sensible car review - but £24,500 seems an awful lot of money - there's a lot of small petrol/manual gearbox cars out there for under £20k - and, while 71mpg is very impressive, it doesn't actually save that much unless you drive a very high mileage.
Ich habe jetzt bald die ersten 1000km hinter mir, und der Wagen gefällt mir immer besser. Bis jetzt bin ich mit gut 3,8l/100km unterwegs, bin auf den Winter gespannt.
Am waiting for the Toyota Yaris Cross Iconic. Based on carow found the goid discount. Speaking to Car Dealers is like playing a gamev🤡🤡🤡🤡. Nobody didn't want to speak about discounts. Not easy meet honest people these days
I have a new one …. Wish I had a longer look and test drive as I would not have bought it! Noisy engine! Poor paint finish and as for the parcel shelf it’s flimsy and flaps about if you open the rear window! Switches on right low down and can’t see them… material over hard plastic on door cards!!overall poor for Toyota don’t think they could have made it any cheaper?
Interesting. Noisy engine? You ran it in properly for the first 1000 miles? I wouldn't say mine was louder than any other car when the engine cuts in. The paint finish comment is interesting, maybe I should have gone for the armour paint option? We'll see after a few washes. Parcel shelf is really only a loose cover over odd-shaped boot contents - mine doesn't flap - try a blanket over it? The right switches are hard to see, granted, but my Icon level only has two of these populated. I'm happy with the material choices.
My model is Excel Iv not done a thousand miles yet.. no way will the parcel shelf take any weight! Iv also serviced many Toyotas over the years and owned several. This like all my other cars will be serviced every 6 months. My son’s Seat 1.5 FR is so much quieter and returns 50mpg regularly mine returns between just over 40 to just into the 60s Services also expensive especially the oil! Should? have had a longer test drive as I would not have bought it…

Good day Steve. From AAS to car review 🎉
Great video, great info, ty ;)

Thanks yes. The mute trick just mutes, sadly. Will do at a pinch but not much good for podcasts!!

Totally get the bang for buck on the base model. Too much up selling these days. Though I'd have gone heated seats and wheel.
Great job! I have enjoyed this series. The best I can do is a virtual beep. Beep beep!

Yeah, but I really, really wanted a hybrid and some degree of EV operation in suburbs and in town 8-)

"I've almost completed my first 1000km and I like the car more and more. So far I'm using a good 3.8l/100km and I'm excited for winter."
We all like different cars and specification to fit iur different lives.
it looks pretty good to be honest, sound like a descent car.
As a private owner, I would rather have just the petrol engine on its own. All that hybrid stuff is ruinously expensive when it goes wrong
Computer says mpg near 71mpg but what does tank to tank fill actually say? My Honda always over estimates mpg. Never trust the computer read out.
It's accurate, though in fairness with bad weather and lights on a lot more, I'm getting closer to 60mpg. Hey ho...
