      He was world class until he was about 22 and his body started to break down. Then he was average because he relied too much on his pace and strength and didn't have the nuance to his play to be great without explosive speed and power. He still had strength for a tussle, but for a defender under 6 feet tall, that isn't enough to convert to centre half.

      @@mesicek7 A subjective term generally used to describe a player amongst the best in the world in their position.
      Micah Richards circa 2004-2007ish was that. A phenomenal prospect eating opposition wingers for breakfast defensively and blistering past opposing right backs with ease and delivering on the end product. Like an Alexander-Arnold offensively, though not as capable a passer, but with huge physical power and who was also good defender. Huge shame his body failed him and never learned the more technical aspects of defensive play.
      Don't start fights you can't win, chump. I've forgotten more about football than you'll ever know 👍

      If Hughes really had an issue with what he thought Micah did, why didn't he privately have a conversation with him about it? This isn't the 1970s or 1980s anymore - man-managing has to better than just delivering hairdryer treatment to players.
      There's a reason why Hughes is now managing in League Two.

    Mark Hughes is a gentleman and one the nicest guys in the game. The fact you were laughing after a defeat shows that you didn't give a fcuk about the loss, the club and the fans or anyone else I would have dropped you from the first team and told you to find another club.       I remember the 06/07 season he was sensational & was the youngest defender to ever play for England. I remember his debut against Arjen Robben & he played a blinder. But unfortunately things started to go wrong when he joined Villa.

    I like Richards as a Pundit but what was he thinking there? Mark Hughes was a legendary player and a well respected manager. Your job as a player - and the reason you get paid millions of pounds - is to follow the manager's instructions and to put in 100% effort both in training and in games. If you think he's unfair, you go into his office and explain yourself. Not threaten him, Jesus Christ...

Hughes was the first player to win the PFA Players' Player of the Year award twice. He guided Blackburn to sixth place in the premier league as a manager. Compared to that Richards has done nothing. But even that shouldn't matter. There's a hierarchy and it's there for a reason.

      He is as mediocre as British managers come - his managerial career win-rate is 38%.
      He is now managing a club in the FOURTH TIER of English football because no Premier League club is stupid enough to give him a job.

    I really like Micah Richards, but the pundit. However as a footballer, injury plagued and seeming like someone who wanted to square up to the manager is wrong. I always backed Richards as a player. However he's just shown where and how players get their power from the changing room and what's wrong with the whole footballer ego and power. He's the gaffa so stfu and listen.

So yes a manager has every right to shut the players down, especially at the highest level. IF he spoke out like that and I was Mark Hughes he'd be gone. Make an example, decrease player power, reassert yourself, which is what Fergie has done for years and made himself the greatest manager ever from it.

Really good players let their performances on the pitch speak for them, or let others say how good they were.       Never a top-class striker at all. Never ever had a 20+ league goal season in his career (best was 17 goals in 40 league games for Man Utd in 1985-86) and only hit 20+ goals in all competitions three times in his whole career. Averaged a goal every four games for club and country.
      He definitely wasn't anywhere near as good as Ian Rush.
