Gary Lineker scored a hat trick in a much anticipated "el Classico", in January of 1987, but the Spanish referee refused to give him the ball, contrary to the custom. So, in October of the same year, '87, England played Spain, in Spain in Bernabeu. No England player has scored on spanish soil since. Lineker scored four goals in 32 minutes, giving his side a 4-2 victory, and was dubbed by the Catalan press as ' the Executioner of Spain'. Should have given him the ball, reff...!
Many of the younger fans who regularly mouth off on RUclips clearly don't appreciate what an absolute goal merchant Lineker was in the 80s and early 90s. What a poacher!
I am old enough to remember him as a player, but still, when i look up his sheet, it's surprizing! He is England's top scorer in the World Cup, was top scorer of the whole thing in '86. Winner of three golden boots, with three different teams! scored a hat trick in "el Classico", scored 4 against Spain -in Spain-... I don't know if there is another player that can compare to him!

The crazy thing about Shearer was at Southampton in his three seasons as a starter he got 3 goals, 4 goals and 13 goals. And then all of a sudden everyone just knew he was going to be one of the best in the world. Signs for Blackburn for a British record fee and there were a couple of other teams that wanted him. United were one. Then he immediately becomes a world class striker. 16 in 21 games his first season because he got injured and 31, 34 and 31 in the other three years he played for Blackburn in spite of playing in a two man striker partnership. And Sutton wasn't a Bergkamp or a Sherringham he was also an out and out number 9 looking for goals. And then he broke the world record fee.
I was at old Trafford when he played his last game for Spurs against United. When he scored against us, the whole crowd stood up and applauded him. It was a special moment of respect for a very fine player , club and country.
Gary Lineker was a beast. Even in his last season in the Prem at Spurs he left scoring 28 goals in the league. Then he went to Japan for two years and made a bunch of money then retired. But the guy was right up there with the best strikers of the 80's and the 80's had some gems.

Yep, remember it well, as an 11 year old knowing better than the England manager. Subbed on Alan Smith "for a bit of height". No disrespect to Alan, but why oh why would you sub off Lineker of all players.

I just need to say that I think Micah Richards memory about the Van Persie volley against Charlton that was better than the one he scored in that hat trick, is actually a Shaun Bartlett volley scored, for Charlton, against Leicester Cìty which won goal of the season.
Still can’t believe Tony Yeboah's hat-trick against Wimbledon didn’t make the list. Possibly the greatest Premiership goal ever, plus two more and didn’t even get a look in.

Probably why they posted it

Shearers Hattrick against Arsenal on his full Southampton debut at age 16 takes some beating.
