Big respect for Thierry bringing up Gregg Popovich and the San Antonio Spurs and what coach Pop did before drafting Tim Duncan. As it turned out, one of the best Coach-Superstar Athlete relationships in pro sports.
As a rugby fan, I'll say that the bonus point and the refferee using a mic have only brought positives to that sport, and football should definitely follow. Specially the refferees and VAR's using mics, as that is a pivotal part of the VAR in rugby that didn't carry over to footballs version, resulting in VAR in football being more of controversy maker than a controversy solver
The 1 point for 3 goals is genius. Encourages teams to play offensive attractive football even against better opposition because they may rescur a point
To be fair, in the US we had to suffer through Fox Sports and ESPN massacring the sport for years but in the end it was all worth it because we got these guys as well as Rebecca Lowe and the Two Robbies/Tim Howard/Other Guests on NBCSN
@@gcbryan89 It make it more interesting to play offensive than as a wall. Rugby really profit from this rule, the match are more turn to conquest than just pure possession like before. The problem with the additional points is it would just give rich teams even more points at the top of the league, because they score loads of goals most weeks anyway. It would widen the gap even further. Also, when it comes to the PL, it's already an attacking league anyway, teams generally don't need extra motivation to attack even more.

I think a point for scoring 3+ goals should only be for a draw of defeat. A 3-3 draw gives both teams 2 points. A 4-3 win gives the winner 3 points and the loser 1 point. It means that teams losing 5-2 would push for a last minute 3rd goal rather than both teams just going flat. The trouble with giving the extra point to the winning team is that big teams will get so many extra points on top of all the wins that the gap between them and the rest will grow.
Tim Duncan was an interesting example -- there was absolutely zero chance the Spurs weren't drafting him. Nice gesture by Popovich, but he was not going there to do any type of evaluation, more like welcoming him.
How can Thierry be a master on the pitch, a genius football brain, a great analyst and a natural comedian? He’s so charming. At 14 years old, I hated this man. Now, he’s charmed the socks off me 😂
1. Stop the match clock when the ball goes out of play, not free kick. (You'll also need to make games 60 mins long, since that's roughly how long the ball is actually in play during 90 min matches). 2. Gonna wreak havoc with statistical analysis, but I weirdly like it. A point for 3 goals is such a good idea! It rewards teams by doing the hardest thing, which is scoring goals. You can’t help but feel sorry for Leicester in that game. They deserve at least a point
Which game? If it's the Fulham 5-3 then they deserved fuck all. Were comprehensively outclassed by a midtable team missing three of their best players and only got a foot in after they subbed off their next 5 best players. In other words Leicester did nothing until playing basically Fulham's championship team. They were embarrassing
as an admittedly biased Fulham fan, I think Leicester's goals capitalized on the fact that Fulham assumed they had already won the game and switched off defensively for the second half.
Some of these are great suggestions. The ref’s should 100% have to speak with the press because they can give a goal away just as easily as any player. I also think the temporary sub for a head injury or any potential life threatening injury would be a great idea. I think safety should be the main priority of the game for players, coaches, fans and anyone involved with the game, and i dont think we cannot truly say this is happening when there will be the pressure put on from management, coaches and other players since they are down to 10 men…. When i say this i specifically am even thinking of the time mourinioh criticised the female physio at Chelsea and caused a whole issue.
Carragher brought up what they should do with players faking head injuries. I personally think that if a player is caught intentionally faking a head injury, he should be given a yellow card. Some situations will be harder to judge if they are intentional, but that goes for many rules in football
Rugby does do a lot of things better than football especially miking up the referees but I think the head injury sub idea actually first started in GAA sports where a “blood sub” could come on when a player had to get assessed and the game more or less doesn’t stop at all for an injury and this would really help stop time wasting
Honestly, all these would be great additions I feel like the time wasting calls would be cause for controversy but smartly, the ref having to explain himself after and wear a mic could remedy that problem
The proposed 2nd rule would obviously favor teams such as Man City, Liverpool, Arsenal etc. more than the rest since they are the only teams capable of scoring at least 3 goals a match very often.
Feel like going over the games, and creating a table for the prem based on the +1 point for 3 goals or more Then maybe a table with +1 point for cleansheets too just to see if there are any drastic changes
Yeah, creating a table like that and check the changes it has on the leagues over the course of several years in the past could be interesting, but in reality teams with full knowledge of this rule would be bad imon
A lot of these are taken from rugby like the Bonus point and the head injury substitute and for his first point the refs in rugby don’t just give a free kick but they do stop the clock if too much time is being wasted and that would be a good thing for football too
If you were King or Queen for the day, what changes would you make to football?! 🤔
