      @@Lowkey_AFCIt's an individual award. Not a team award.
      In 2001 rivaldo was clearly the best player on the planet.
      No one argued when he won the ballon dor.
      That season Barca finished 4th and won nothing.
      But it didn't matter because everyone could see rivaldo was the best.
      These days we give it to guys like modric just for reaching a world cup final when it's clear he wasn't even the best player at his club team.

      He didn't have to. He was easily the best player on the planet.
      Arsenal didn't need to win trophies to prove henry was a better player than nedved. It was clear as day.

    It's f**king criminal that Henry never won a Ballon d'Or. I grew up in this period and honestly, I can't describe how good Henry was as a kid. He was magic. Teams used to s**t themesleves when Henry ran at defenders.
    It's sad we didn't win the league in 2003 as we played some incredible football that season, just as good as the unbeaten league season. 2002-2006 he was the best in the world. Looking at today's Arsenal team, we need a Henry-like player. A goalscorer. Someone like him who can net 20-30 goals.

    • @TH14Comps
      @TH14Comps  3 месяца назад +31

      03 Nedved was obviously not as good as Henry, but u can argue his CL performances deserved it. It's just weird that Henry came 2nd in both the FIFA award and the Ballon d'or, and lost out in each to a player that wasn't even in the top 3 for the other award. Especially since the only international tournament that year, the confed cup, was dominated by Henry. I think Henry deserved it, it's not like he was bad in the CL, and he still led Arsenal to 2nd, an fa cup, and had success with France - but Nedved was an OK choice.
      Shevchenko in 04 made much less sense. He didn't even have the CL claim Nedved did. Henry scored more, assisted more, was a better footballer, and was huge for the invincibles. Ronaldinho or Deco winning would've been somewhat understandable, but Henry for his consistency deserved it imo. No big players had a good euros that year, as Greece spoiled it for everyone - but Henry faced huge criticism and blame after France's loss to Greece. I think that cost him. Shevchenko, while absolutely being one of the most feared strikers for a few years, was not the best player in the world at that point. He won that purely off his past reputation, and the blame Henry took for France's defeat.
      06 should've been either Ronaldinho or Henry. Everyone knew they were the 2 best players. Ronnie won La Liga and led Barca to the CL, but was poor in the world cup. Henry had a good world cup, and carried a young Arsenal team to the CL final - if Nedved deserved 03 for his performance in the champions league, then Henry surely deserved this. But he came 3rd behind Cannavaro and Buffon - who only had a good world cup. They were both knocked out the CL by Henry's Arsenal, and were stripped of the serie a title and relegated. Somehow Ronaldinho only came 4th.
      Overall, 03 was his clear peak imo, but lack of team success and Nedved's heroics in the CL makes it OK I guess (tho for me it's still silly). 04 was a travesty. 06 was also insane. You can make an argument he didn't deserve any of them - but it's kinda like arguing Messi didn't deserve it in 2012 just coz he didn't win the league and champions league. You'd basically have to ignore that this was obviously the best player in the world. The ballon d'or has always been a bit of a joke, but in the 2000s it was a complete shambles.

I can confidentially say that he was the best and most complete striker in the world from 2003 to 2006. And he was at least in the top 5 best players in the world from 2003 to 2006. Injuries and inconsistent form after 2006 dropped him down the ranks but still among the 10 best players in the world. I will never, ever tire of watching Henry play. I have never seen anything like it, his ability to run at absolutely full pace with the ball at feet was insane. It felt like the man just teleported across the pitch.
    I'm not going to get into bests, greatests because people always have thier agenda's and biases.
    What I will say, is I have never experienced the sense of joy, excitement and bewilderment watching anyone else play football as I did when I watched Henry. I was lucky enough to be a teenager as he was bursting onto the seen, so I got to fully experience it, week by week, game by game. The pace, the skill and the complete inability to score an ugly goal.

    • @benstonks9047
      @benstonks9047 3 месяца назад

      I honestly think that they should've won at least 2 UCLs during Henry's time. One in 2003-04 would've been plausible, and the other being in 2006. It would've been a perfect send-off gift in 2006 - with Henry lifting the big ears in possibly his final match for Arsenal, solidifying his status as the greatest player to have ever played for the club and in the Premier League.
      I think he probably would've left a year earlier if they won in 2006 as well cause he would've won almost every possible trophy there is to win. Not to mention, his chances of winning the Ballon D'or would've skyrocketed if he won at least one major trophy that year.
