For those wondering what happened to him he still makes music. His stage name is Josiah and The Bonnevilles, highly recommend people to check him out, he makes great music.
Man I remember watching this episode as a kid with my Dad and it just stuck. Every couple years i come back to give it another listen and I get chills every time.
I hope anyone watching this is the year of our Lord 2024 knows that this man is still making music under the stage name Josiah and the Bonnivilles. Look up his RUclips. He is a brilliant song writer and musician and deserves more recognition.
I came back here because this audition set me on a path of being a die hard Josiah Leming fan 😂 (now plays under Josiah and the Bonnevilles for those unaware)
13 years later and this was a performance that truly stuck with me. I actually like his rendition and what he does with the ending more than the original.
Ya, a little more soulful, a little less pop. Although, I think that was the point of the original, pairing an upbeat tune to lyrics about feeling unliked and ostracized.
i'm not a big idol fan, but this was, by far, my favorite performance i've EVER seen on TV from ANY venue. i'd like to hear more of this kid. i was slightly upset that he didn't make it at LEAST until the top 24. good luck, josiah! i'm pullin for ya, bro!
I'm from the UK, it's 2020, and I've been coming back here once a year or so for 12 years. We didn't even *get* American Idol in Britain back then - I used to have to torrent it every week at ridiculously slow speeds. Josiah Leming was a true artist and it's still a shock to me that he was eliminated so early.
I still think this is the most memorable moment of any Idol performance. Many years have gone by and I still listen to this lots. I'd love to hear a full version of it sang by Josiah
I got home from seeing Mika in SF last night and decided to watch AI before falling asleep. I was half asleep when I heard this. It was incredible. haha.
When the other contestants sing, their voice comes out and is amplified by the microphone. When Josiah sings, his soul comes out and radiates throughout.
Despite me initially thinking they made a big mistake, I’m glad he didn’t make it to the top 24 or he would’ve been trapped in a contract, I just wish he got more exposure. Paula/Simon were right, I fell in love & never forgot him. He’s one of my favorite artists of all time to this day.
I'm so glad someone mentioned American Idol today and I remembered how much I used to love watching and listening to Josiah's performances. Discovering his new music is like watching all over again.
I LOVE this kid...so talented. If you've not heard any of his new stuff...definitely check out his website or catch him on face book. I don't know why we have so much crappy, cookie-cutter stuff on the radio these days while this kid is still struggling and playing small venues. He's amazing, and has really grown as an artist since this performance...but this was the performance that made my twin sister and I sit up and say: "Yeah! More of that, please!" years ago. We have kids his age...we're all fans. It was a huge mistake for them to cut him.. he should have stayed on in season 7. We lost interest completely when he didn't make it...didn't bother to watch the rest of that year...
It touched me and I never knew how to find this video and now that this song is trending on tik tok it unlocked this memory and had to come check this out
i really liked him alot , but he was young , and he was cracking under the pressure before they even went to a live crowd. if you watched the episodes after that he was breaking down from the pressure , imo he should have taken some time to polish and become more confident. but he did get a good deal after the show though. saying he was kicked off for being different is just foolish.
Wolfen443 He was cut because he dismissed the band, not because he was original. If that was the case Phillip Phillips and Adam Lambert also would have been cut.
Every time I watch this, I like it a little bit more. I find something else to appreciate about it. For an audition this early in the competition, this was immaculate! Everything about it is professional, just perfect. It should have more than pushed him past the judges stage to where America could vote for him.
2024 and im still listening to him. i was sad when he didnt make it further but in some way it may have been a good thing, it gave him time to develop more on his own but also gave him enough 15mins of fame to start growing a following of loyal fans. the long game might always be the best plan for truly talented people like this guy. love love love his Appalachia song
2021 and still love this rendition. But I just love seeing someone with nothing to lose.. stepping up to the plate and knocking it out of the park. Not afraid of their moment
I only knew him for a short time since I only started watching American Idol in the first few weeks of the top 24 and he wasn't there but I absolutely adore him~ He has talent.
I have NEVER posted a comment...ANYWHERE. I recorded Idol the night Josiah performed Grace Kelly and watched it OVER and OVER. I'm so glad to see how his defeat on Idol turned into a MAJOR win. Way to go "artist!"
This is seriously the ONLY american idol performance that really stuck with me! I havent seen this in 3 years and here I am at 12 am thinking about this ONE performance and googled "american idol guy living in a car" and found it :) got all his albums now :)!!! LOVE HIM
Dunno what made me think about him again but I loved him ever since I saw him audition and i was so crushed when he was cut.. oii but I've had a listen at the stuff he's released and I'm so glad he got signed!
Josiah is a very talented person! He's more than you actually think he is! He's gonna be big someday and I believe that he will make it far:) He will be big someday!
2020 and still haven’t forgot this dude.
Hope you’ve checked out all the stuff he’s released since.
hope your following him. He is still making great music.
Same!! I'll never forget this!!!
This man did so good this time, he avoided elimination by being shitty after this time. I will remember that forever
Who was the guy who sang queens son . Bohemian rhapsody
I feel exactly the same way about this performance
ANTONIO PRESCOTTIO
Same
Dude same lol
Same here
Same!
honestly an audition i’ve never forgotten.
I still to this day remember this performance. He is so talented.
you're a loser @caleb eastland
I hope anyone watching this is the year of our Lord 2024 knows that this man is still making music under the stage name Josiah and the Bonnivilles. Look up his RUclips. He is a brilliant song writer and musician and deserves more recognition.
2023 still one of the most remarkable audition I've witnessed
I came back here because this audition set me on a path of being a die hard Josiah Leming fan 😂 (now plays under Josiah and the Bonnevilles for those unaware)
Who's watching this during quarantine! I still love him! It's been 12 years
13 years later and this was a performance that truly stuck with me. I actually like his rendition and what he does with the ending more than the original.
Ya, a little more soulful, a little less pop. Although, I think that was the point of the original, pairing an upbeat tune to lyrics about feeling unliked and ostracized.
I’ve never stopped thinking about this specific contestant and that one song he wrote
Have u listened to his newer music?
Poorest decision in American Idol history= eliminating this guy too soon :[
My 2008 heart still aches.
I come back to this every few months cause it’s still one of my favorite American idol auditions to this day
this gives me chills everytime i watch it. :)
i'm not a big idol fan, but this was, by far, my favorite performance i've EVER seen on TV from ANY venue. i'd like to hear more of this kid. i was slightly upset that he didn't make it at LEAST until the top 24. good luck, josiah! i'm pullin for ya, bro!

Still one of my favorite idol performances period.
Just 7 years too early! Euro pop/Euro rock is finally in in America. Folk is finally mainstream in America.
I still think this is the most memorable moment of any Idol performance. Many years have gone by and I still listen to this lots. I'd love to hear a full version of it sang by Josiah
IT’S STILL SO GOOD !!!!!
I quit watching the show after he was eliminated. I truly believe he would have made it to the end. This performance was one of the best ever.
Dang.. I watched this when I was 7 and now im 22... its still stuck in my head.
It happened 10 years ago. Your math is off.
Josian is one of the most amazing young musicians I have ever heard. His originals are mindblowing, he will definitely be a worldwide star
The cutest boy ever!
Its someone who is really worth happiness.
If sweden could wote, WE WOULD WOTE FOR YOU!
I'll never forget this clip. I'm so happy he's still playing and singing in Josiah and the Bonnevilles
I love Josiah Leming music! Been a fan since 2012 😊 One of the best Indie singers out there!
This is my favorite performance of the whole competition so far. I'm way sad he didn't make Top 24. He sounds so amazing.
I'm so glad someone mentioned American Idol today and I remembered how much I used to love watching and listening to Josiah's performances. Discovering his new music is like watching all over again.
Josiah Leming, Casey Abrams, and Reed Grimms are by far the best musicians that have ever been on American Idol...
i couldnt stop watchin this on tivo i kept rewinding it ova and ova again and now that im on the computer i still cnt stop rewinding... xoxo lovely
I LOVE this kid...so talented.

Hey, Daniel! Good to see you here! : )
It touched me and I never knew how to find this video and now that this song is trending on tik tok it unlocked this memory and had to come check this out
man tbh i remember this a lot better as a kid. still nostalgia.
I always come back to this. Awesome performance
He was cut because he did not fit the model of contestants they usually get through. Being original WILL NOT get you being a winner in this shows.
Wolfen443 wrong. Adam Lambert? Phillip Phillips?
i really liked him alot , but he was young , and he was cracking under the pressure before they even went to a live crowd. if you watched the episodes after that he was breaking down from the pressure , imo he should have taken some time to polish and become more confident. but he did get a good deal after the show though. saying he was kicked off for being different is just foolish.
Wolfen443 He was cut because he dismissed the band, not because he was original. If that was the case Phillip Phillips and Adam Lambert also would have been cut.
2021 and I'm still here
Still one of my favorite ai performances.
+aleta george support him. he just put out a new record @aleta george
His and Kellie pickler. Pick me
josiah...the one contestent I never forgot. this kid was so good.
I remember when he first started playing this song, I was like "NOOOOO!!!" but then he did an amazing job. I wish he'd gotten further.
one of the best performances in idol history
Josia MADE this song
such a talented young man
Thank you, TxRxA! Exactly! What is with people not recognizing a true artist? Josiah Leming is the real deal. :)
I love him so much and having him sing Mika's song grace kelly made him even more awesome
This has stuck with me for YEARS
2022, and still remember watching american idol back.in the day one decade ago
I don't know why this popped into my head randomly. Love this rendition, can't believe I found it on RUclips 8 years later.
Every time I watch this, I like it a little bit more. I find something else to appreciate about it. For an audition this early in the competition, this was immaculate! Everything about it is professional, just perfect. It should have more than pushed him past the judges stage to where America could vote for him.
Josiah is so lovable because he's real, he sings from his heart and is always himself no matter what. He's amazing in every aspect.
I start to like Mika's song after listening Josiah singing this song -- and still loving it ever since.
One of the best voices/preformances ever on American Idol ever.
It's June 2020 and I'm still listening. I loved this audition
A GREAT performance... this guy should have been in the top 10
Heard great news that Mika liked Josiah's version of Grace Kelly and now Josiah is doing a video of the song! So cool!
Will never forget this
When I heard this as a kid i was blown away & lowkey became a fan :]
I used to listen to "one last song" on a dialup connection xD
this audition blew me away!!!
2021 and still love this rendition. But I just love seeing someone with nothing to lose.. stepping up to the plate and knocking it out of the park. Not afraid of their moment

I LOVE THIS!!! AWESOME!!
Never forgot him, out of all the auditions and winners; his name is the one I remember.
I have NEVER posted a comment...ANYWHERE. I recorded Idol the night Josiah performed Grace Kelly and watched it OVER and OVER. I'm so glad to see how his defeat on Idol turned into a MAJOR win. Way to go "artist!"

Josiah is awesome!!
Dunno what made me think about him again but I loved him ever since I saw him audition and i was so crushed when he was cut.. oii but I've had a listen at the stuff he's released and I'm so glad he got signed!
