Who would need a stereo in that car? When I daily drove my built 03 cobra with a built 4.6 dohc with a 2.3 whipple and long tubes it was intoxicating to drive! I was always looking for tunnels and bridges to blast underneath to hear the music reverberating back at me 😂.
The only time the stereo was ever on was traffic or when parked lol..

I have taken every college level class I could find on engine building, blueprinting, porting, and engine development that I could find and have been building engines for 22+ years since I was a kid (at 12 years old the first engine I built was a nitrous 383 SBC stroker for our boat) and I learn something almost every video of Steves I watch.
It is a honor to be able to learn from such a master of his craft for free I cant believe it, if I was closer to SME I would gladly work part time for free just to soak up the knowledge!
Thank you for everything you do and I hope I can achieve half of the success you have by the time I get to where you are in life, it is so refreshing to see someone doing both well in business, loving what you do and having you son involved and your health, I am so envious!

Sick - I remember back in 1994 when I took my OEM Volvo 240 Turbo to a level not seen before. Replaced the fuel system, turbo, intercooler and ditched the mechanical Bosch CI injection with at the time state of the art Haltech EFI E6A where I could map fuel and timing in real time. I used an old laptop to run the Haltech and it was done in DOS. Friends with V8 with poorly adjusted carbies got they’re but spanked more often than not. What a great time it was. To day ‘’everyone’’ have 1000 plus as the electronics have open up ways of engine management that we could just dream of back in those days. Even diesel management have come a long way.
This engine is bad to the bone. That little thing producing that amount of power at nearly 10K rpm and live is a testament to internals, manament and knoweledge. Well done Mate.
    Blessings from Norway.

5.2l lambo engines (as far as I remember) are odd-firing due solely to the fact that the crankshaft uses shared crankpins while being a 90 degree block. The firing interval for an even V10 would be 72 degrees (720 degrees divided by 10 combustion events = 72 degrees), which tells me that this engine combination most likely uses split crankpins with a 28 degree offset (in the same vain as a 90 degree V6 uses 30 degree offset crank pins to achieve an even firing order; it's the same style of math and relatively simple to figure out). Advantages of even firing order; for N/A, it makes building headers incredibly simple, because all the primary tubes just need to have the same overall volume/length and makes header tuning quite simple. Exhaust scavenging conditions remain exactly the same across every cylinder on a bank, making overall tuning/individual cylinder tuning even more easy. For turbocharged applications such as this example, so long as the primary tubes are equalized, the turbo hot-side sees exhaust pulses at a very even interval, which I would take to mean that intake pressure levels and 2 step control is also easier (again, just an opinion, but it does make sense to me)
On a plus side, this would give the lambo 5.2l a similar firing order, and this a very similar sound to the Lexus LFA V10 (it at least has the potential for the special third overtones that the Lexus' exhaust produces.

I've been out of the game for almost 15 years but back in the early to mid 2000s me and my pops built the worlds first 1000whp e36 328. And were just some resnecks from Southern Maryland. This was pre e85 and so much improvements have happened in the turbo engine world with tuning, fuel etc shit I remember the biggest injectors we could get at the time were Bosch 1600cc/160lb. We were first in the 9s.. 9.92@156 with the factory 5 speed, ac and heated leather seats. Would love to modernize the car with shit like boost by gear and probably a higher compression build. We did 8:1 compression and with that big 80mm it was a dog down low. Definitely a new ecu, its running a electromotive tec3r stand alone. Buddy of ours got his in the 8s a coupleyears later, his was a two door m3. Just been getting the drag racing itch with all the youtube I've been watching lately. Lol sorry for the novel of a post

Usually what you're describing is from a flat-plane crankshaft. Unless I'm mistaken, none of the engines from the Volkswagen Group utilize a flat-plane crankshaft. Being an even-fire mongrel, they may have swapped this to a custom crank, but Steve would need to confirm this quirk.

    • @robertofilone131

@@TheMrMused im telling you a secret: Italy is in Europe, so do Ferrari, Lamborghini (this video is about a Lambo's engine if you didnt notice), Maserati, Pagani. Ferrari and Lamborghini always used flatplane crankshafts in their engines for the last 20 years at least (Ferrari v8s and v12s, Lamborghini v10s and v12s). The modern lamborghini v10 was realized way before VW group put its money on the brand). Maserati v8 famous engine that won rewards as the best sounding engine for example, has a crossplane design, more like american usual v8s. As a european if im asked to think of performance engines and cars, obviously italian engineers and supercars come to mind. Honestly all I think when I hear Volkswagen is Golf and street utility vehicles. F1 cars dont say anything about a brand and its philosophy.

Steve, always impressed with these pulls. Just wondering how you handle the low rev end, your engines always seem to idle pretty well. Is it just throttle valve control or do you have like an idle bypass valve? Do you need distinct fuel or boost control at the idle end of the rev range.
P.S. that sound is something different, sounds wild.

Man! 56-5800 the little 5.2 either finally lights those big 88’s or starts to power through the load of the dyno… Night and day from the big stump pulling monsters lol. Twice the displacement lights 88’s at like 33-3500… Cool, but way more complicated than the old tried and true BBC! 👍

11:01 you can use the coil to grab the spark plug out of the hole after you unthread it just stick coil back in the hole it will grab the plug.

Some of those coil on plug connectors don't actually have a boot that fits over the porcelain. No idea with the Lambo stuff but I'm sure Steve had his reasons lol

Hello Steve, Love all the videos. We've run with You and Tom on some of the drag weeks. My dad showed me a trick pulling out spark plugs, to use a short piece of air line or vacuum hose that fits snugly over the end of the plug. Helps to get them in or out. if you used a line long enough it will bend around headers or manifolds.

One of these days Steve will make DOHC heads for his blocks! Then a few days later he will install solenoids to activate the valves instead of cams! Then he will dyno the motors to 22-25,000 RPM!

    Love this stuff
The run at 13:56 it makes peak torque at 8800RPM- is there a rising boost curve or is this thing ready to turn 10K?

At ~4:40, what caused the flash visible above the right side intake manifold? Was that a reflection in the dyno room window glass - the power lever? Or was that something in the room itself?
    Rowdy sounding beast!

A V10 wants to have 72° Angle. My Volkswagen Touareg V10 5.0 TDI had a 90 ° Block. So Volkswagen offset each of the paired Crankshaft Rods by 18°, so the Engine thought it was a 72° Engine.
