Im all about a star!!! And the log cabin really makes a nice one!!! The fabrics are from Andover Fabrics and are designed by Laundry Basket Quilts. I am making a video now using the left over fabrics to make a wall hanging for the room the quilt is in!!! keep watching for that one!!!
What a delightful filming style you have! I felt as if I were sitting in your workroom with you, and you were chatting with me. I think that’s hard to do when filming, but you are a natural! Lovely design, beautiful choice of fabrics, nice instructions. All in all, a nice time spent with you. Thank you too for the free pattern. This will probably be my first log cabin quilt. The size is not too small, and it’s a great lay-out. Thanks again!
Nancy, thank you so much for your kind words! i do feel like I am talking to friends when Im making the videos, glad that comes through!!! FYI this was my first log cabin block too!!!
Hi Brenda, thank you so much for watching our interview!! I just finished a video that is heavy on the longarm tutorial so that should be coming up soon. It is a very simply one so more will be coming!!!
Eleanor has been up and running like a champ for a couple of months now!!! It was a long time to wait but the problem wasn't serious and the repairman that Gammill sent was just the best, he taught me a lot! Keep watching for a wall hanging using the same fabrics, Im working on that video now!!!!
I just found your videos. What a great teacher you are! Makes me feel inspired to make a log cabin quilt. I had piece well over have of one years ago and it was somehow “lost” in a move and I’ve never started another one. I think you are the inspiration for starting another one!
I just stumbled onto your video. I have to admit I did not watch the entire episode because I was mainly interested in seeing your longarm quilting, that was in the title of your video. What prompted me to write to you other than complimenting your beautiful, log cabin quilt, was your longarm named Eleanor! My long arm is named Miss Ellie, short for Eleanor, my sweet mother, who taught me how to sew. I am going to be 68 years old. Have been sewing and quilting for a long long time. Thank you so much for sharing. I will be visiting your website to check out your goodies! And thank you so much for the free pattern. I have yet to make a log cabin maybe that’s in my future?❤
Hi Laurel, sorry you didnt get to see more longarming in this one! I dont usually show a lot of longarming, do you think i should document more of it? we are just finding our path. this was my first log cabin and i must say i enjoyed it immensely! My mom and I had so much fun sewing together over the years, I miss her most of all while in my workroom because i know how much she would have loved it!!! You and Miss Ellie take care!!!
Did u find the instructions for cutting the pieces? I have looked n they don’t seem to be on my screen. If u found please instruct me as to how I bring up. Many thanks. I too love this design n want to make it for my daughter this next Xmas. Lizzi
I just found your videos and subscribed after the first one I watched. I loved your log cabin blocks, the fabric is beautiful. I just used it myself in a quilt. When your dog appeared, I was hooked. Lost my Dane in 2012 and miss him everyday. I have made 2 log cabin quilts, first one over 40 years ago, never had it quilted just made the top in a class at JoAnn's. Did not quilt again until 2012 when I lost my Dane. My second one I made for my Grandson with blue and green batiks which I gave to him Christmas 2021. I love your layout and will have to make a third one. Thank you for sharing your talents and patterns.
Oh Karen, first thank you for subscribing and second I know how hard it is to loose one of these giants. we are on, i think, our 12th!!! we rescue most and so sometimes we dont have them very long but i assure you they are spoiled rotten when here. never gets easier loosing them but we are compelled to get more and more. We were down to just two but are now back up to five!!!! i recently longarmed some quilts for a client who had done them 30 years ago and then life happened and she hadnt quilted again, she is going to pick it up again, thank goodness because she did an exquisite quilter. I would love to see pictures of your quilts! americanalongarmquilting@gmail.com
Thank you. Such a beautiful quilt and enjoyable video. I don't recall seeing a log cabin star layout before.. Scrolled through your videos...cannot wait to watch more. Subscribed. Get well soon Eleanor!
Eleanor is better than ever!!! The problem wasn't serious and the technician that Gammill sent to me was a wealth of information!!! Glad you liked the quilt. I am working on a video right now that is using up some of the left over fabrics for a wall hanging for the same room!!! Stay tuned!!!
You are so welcome!!! Im working on a wall hanging using the left over fabrics, that video will be out in a couple of months!! We will have a free pdf for that one too!!!!
I'm loving watching your tutorials. You're a great teacher and I love your calm and happy nature not to mention your loving dogs! You have 5 or are some missing? 😂 You must have a huge dog food bill by the size of them! Keep up the great work. 🤗
Hi Pattie, Thank you so much for such a sweet comment, you've made my day!!! Yes, we have five giants and a horse and a number of cats so yes our feed bill is really really big!!!! I love every one of them though!!!
Thank you so much! I was really drawn to this particular fat quarter bundle myself, love pinks and browns together!!!!! The line is from Andover Fabrics and was designed by Laundry Basket Quilts.
Absolutely beautiful colors and groupings. My first thought was that this quilt is so stunning that it reminds me of a quilt from Laundry Basket Quilts. Now I know why. :-) Fabulous fabric choice! Thank you for the pattern!
Hi Elaine, I do love all my dogs, and I think, or hope, they make a fun addition to my videos!!! glad you liked the quilt, keep watching for a bonus project to go with it!!!
I love this I don’t love the cutting for it 😂 the only place I have to lay fabric and cut is on the floor now my back and knees are killing me 😂 But I just had to do this it’s gorgeous! Thank you for the pattern ❤
Oh gosh, I feel your pain!! I'm not sure I could do all this if I had to use the floor!!! A couple folding tables put together, if you have the room, might at least get it off the floor. Put one of those vinyl tableclothes on it with the felt side up to keep things from blowing away!!! Thank. you so much for the comment and tag us if you post your quilt on social media, we would love to see your work!!!
Love love love this layout and the skinnier strips, they just look better! Thank you so much for taking the time to do this and also for the free quilt pattern!♥♥♥
Hi Micheline. I love your channel. You are a very good teacher and the details are very helpful. I also look at designs on walls and ceilings and think they would make a great quilt! So funny. I am also left handed and am glad to see your techniques, especially your fabric cutting. It is interesting that you cut across your body and not away and out. You are very accurate and I look forward to seeing more of your work. This is a very beautiful quilt. Thank you for sharing. ❤
Your block looks lovely. Log cabin blocks can really be used the same way half square triangles are used, basically two halves diagonally split between contrasting colours or dark/light. Since there are myriad layouts for quilts made of HST’s, the same is true of log cabin blocks. Thank you for your video, you have a very good teaching style 😊.!
Hi Cyndy, the fabric line is called Coco Pink by laundry basket quilts for Andover Fabrics. that fabric is truely what inspired me to make the log cabin quilt!!!
Thank you!!! I am creating a video now out of the left over fabrics from the log cabin project. It will be a wall hanging for the bedroom it is in. Keep watching to catch that one!!!!
This was such a nice video. Thank you for sharing the pattern and all the little tips along the way. I love your layout for your blocks. I hope your Eleanor is back to good health quickly - I’ll be looking forward to seeing the finished quilt!
Hi Melissa, thank you for your kind words, I really appreciate them! Eleanor is all better now, she just needed a little loving tune up!!! you can see the quilt laid out on the bed in an upcoming video that is a bonus project to the log cabin quilt!!!
Im so glad you like it!!! I am working on a video now that uses the left over fabrics in a wall hanging for the same room!!! We will do a free pdf for that one too!!!
Beautiful quilt, made my first log cabin mini quilt (pre cut and kit only contains 12 blocks) thanks for the quilt pattern, can't wait to start on the next one. Thank you again!
I love these fabrics so much. They are by Laundry Basket Quilts and the line is called Coco Pink!!! You can find all the quantities in a free downloadable pdf on my website, AmericanaLongarmQuilting. There is a link to the website in the description of the video. Thank. you so much for your comment!!
You made me laugh and laugh! You don't have a cat do you? I did a lot cabin while kitty-sitting my Grandkitty and I lined all my cut logs up nice and neatly like you did and I was happily sewing until Raindrop became interested in what I was doing. That little brat (she was about 8 months old) looked me right in the eye and proceeded to knock everything off the dining table onto the floor. It's a good thing she cute. Anyway, it was funny now but not so much at the time. 🐈⬛🐈⬛🐈⬛
OMG Sharon, YES we have a couple of cats that come in the house and we have several barn cats that don't come in the yard because of the dogs!! And, one of our cats, Mayham aptly named, will purposely knock things off the counter during the night so that we have to get up (before the dogs get whatever he knocks off)and then he wants a treat!!! He has trained us well!!!!
Yayyyy!!! I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who cuts sideways. Been wanting to make a log cabin quilt, Ive never done one. Sent by mt scrapmore ❤ That quilt is gorgeous ❤❤❤❤
I just happened upon this you tube. I love the log cabin block. But everything I’ve been finding is a 2 1/2 inch strips or 2 inch strip. I too like the idea of a smaller strip piece. I just needed yardage information. 😊
I think the smaller strips gives the whole quilt a more delicate feel!!! So glad to be able to help a fellow quilter out!! If you have any questions regarding the free pdf please reach out to me via my website or AmericanaLongarmQuilting@gmail.com
That makes my day!!! Your comments really help us conquer those pesky algorithms too!!! With your help our channel can grow and more people can see our videos!!! Thank you again!!!!
I really like this quilt pattern. So have printed it out so I can start at one point. I am also surprised that a big company like Gammill doesn't respond quicker... veeeeery boring waiting for the technisian to come for a visit..... I hope they will be quicker than 4-6 weeks.... But eventually your longarm will be working again soon.
Well Kenneth it did take every bit of the 6 weeks, urg!!! However, the technician was such a wealth of information it was worth the wait. She is back up and running and I am having a ball with her!!!
What a beautiful quilt! I’m a new sub and I’m glad I ran across your channel. I’m a newbie to quilting…thanks to one of my daughters and sister-in-law, I have a new found interest and want to learn to quilt. I want to start with something simple of course. I’m a crocheter and knitter and have a nice stash of yarn, and now I find myself looking and buying fabric here and there. Lol. Thank you for sharing your beautiful quilt!😊
Welcome to the quilting world! We are a friendly bunch. Im glad you enjoyed watching the video and thank you so much for subscribing!!!! Reach out anytime at americanalongarmquilting@gmail.com
What a beautiful quilt. Such a wonderful color and of course a log cabin quilt is one of my favorites. Also wanted to give you a shout out from Brenda at Conquering Mount Scrapmore.
I have two half yard bundles that I bought, they are Sugarberry and Ridgewood. I am using the reds and pinks in the Anniversary Sampler Quilt. The low volumes, taupe and light browns will go into a low volume quilt. I wonder if I have enough to make your pattern. Love this quilt.
Those colors sound beautiful!!! Download our free pattern for all the fabric requirements. I would love to see your projects. Please tag us so we can watch your progress!!!
Wow excellent video. What a beautiful quilt. I love this layout and the fabric selected was beautiful. Would love to make it. That you for giving us the pattern. That is most appreciated.
I thoroughly enjoyed your video and learned important hints! Thank you for the pattern. I've wanted to make one like this for sometime!! I really liked your cutting method.
Hi Gloria, Glad you stumbled upon our site and I hope I continue to entertain you! Just wait till you see the bonus project I am working on to go with this quilt!!!
I just loved your video and you have inspired me to make this quilt. You explained everything very throughly and clearly. I don't have a lot of quilting experience, but I feel confident, along with your video that I can do this one. Did you have a particular line of fabric that you used for this log cabin quilt? I noticed you did talk about having to purchase more fabric. If you did use a particular line, I would like to get enough material at one time if possible. Thanks again for the great video!
Hi Dianne, Im so glad our video has inspired you!!! the line of fabric was created by laundry basket quilts for andover fabrics and is called Coco Pink. yes, i did have to buy more fabrics but I have given the correct amounts in the pattern. having said that if you have any questions please reach out to me at americanalongarmquilting@gmail.com and i will help anyway i can!!!
Love your quilt and the blocks I am going to attempt to make this I am going to try to get your pdf for the layout thanks for this. I have made several log cabins but lobe this layout so thanks again.
Wow! This quilt is gorgeous! This is my favorite log cabin layout; and you chose fabric from my favorite designer too! New subscriber here. Best wishes to you and beautiful Eleanor.
I call that Frankenstein piecing, and you can’t see them once the quilt is together and quilted. I do it mor often than I’d like to, but oh well that’s what quilting is, cut big pieces of fabric into smaller pieces then sew them into big pieces again.
Hi! I am trying to find that material you are making that log cabin quilt. I am in love with your videos. I have subscribed, and that means I love your RUclips! Thank you. I not quilted much… I just may get started with your helpful video.
Hi there! I really love your quilt and the colors are absolutely gorgeous! I am considering purchasing a half yard of each to make sure that it fits by bed. Is it possible for you to tell me which fabrics you omitted? Thank you in advance
Hi Faye, I used more lights than anything else but I didn't omit any of the fabrics. I would love to see your finished quilt so tag me if you post it!!! If I can help in any way just reach out to me via our website or AmericanaLongarmQuilting@gmail.com Thank you so much for your comment!!!
Hi June, I used Coco Pink by Laundry basket Quilts for Andover Fabrics. I purchased from a quilt show but found extra on Missouri Stars website. Please tag us so we can see your finished quilt!!! Thanks so much for the comment!
A beautiful quilt. Just wondering what kind of long arm Eleanor is? I’m looking for a nice used one as I’m new at this. :) and new to your channel. ♥️👏
I appreciate you watching my video and commenting, that really helps get those pesky algorithms to work in our favor!!! Eleanor is a Gammill and I absolutely love her. She is all better now and we are having lots of fun together!!!
Just found your channel and I’m very happy about that. Love your gorgeous log cabin quilt. Glad your longarm is back up and running smoothly. Would you mind telling me the name of the fabric line you used? If you can’t say I understand. Thank you for sharing your time with us. 😊 Looking forward to more of your videos.
Hi Mimi, the fabric is Coco Pink by laundry basket quilts for andover fabrics. love, love, love the fabric!!! stay tuned for a bonus project with the same fabric!!!!
Laundry Basket Quilts created it for Andover Fabrics I think the line is called Eucalyptus. I am creating a new video now using the left over fabrics to create a wall hanging for the same room. That will have a free pdf too!!! Thank you so much for your interest, I really appreciate it!!!
She is up and running again!!! Yes, it definitely takes a long time to get the technician out but wow was he worth the wait!!! Taught us a lot and was supper efficient and knowledgeable!!!
Thank you so much for this free pattern. I have seen this around or one similar and think it is beautiful. I would love to make it. I have subscribed to your channel, looking forward to seeing what else you have in store for me and other subscribers. When you chain piece how many do you work on at a time? I was thinking 5 or 10, but maybe you work on all of them after you make the first block?
Hi Michelle, Im so glad you like our channel!!! I tend to chain piece as many as possible. If they are all the same, I sew them all. If they are scrappy I lay them all out so that I get a good smattering of colors and designs in each block and then I chain piece as many as I can keep track of. The more you practice the more you can keep track of at a time. good luck and reach out to me anytime!!!
Could you please tell me how many yards of each fabric I need? I know they are not the same fabrics. I would like to make a queen size quilt. Any help would be great. This is beautiful.
Hi Brenda, there is a free downloadable pdf pattern on our website, americanalongarmquilting. It will have all the figures you need. Let us know if you need any help getting it!!! Happy Fall!!!
its a line from Laundry basket quilts for Andover Fabrics. not sure what the line itself is called. I got it from Missouri star I believe. Im so glad you liked it. stay tuned for a bonus project with the same fabrics!!!
The blocks finish at 10x10. There is a free downloadable pattern on my website, AmericanaLongarmQuilting if you are interested in making the quilt!!! Have a wonderful day!!!
donna, if you liked that special appearance wait till you see the bonus project video to the log cabin quilt, Ranger makes a most extraordinary appearance!!!
Hey there, my daughter got it for me a couple christmas's ago. i asked her if she remembered who she got it from and she said all she could remember was getting it from amazon. and, yes, it is very helpful!!!
Your log cabin is beautiful! I recognize that fabric as Laundry Basket Quilts! You should have mentioned that. Her fabrics are the best! Sorry about your longarm.
Good video. Thank you. It would be faster for you if you had a leader and an ender rather than cutting your threads after each piece. It’s much faster 😊
I know but have never gotten into the habit of using an ender. I am spoiled with my industrial machines that there is so much space near the needle plate. my wonderful home dec machine is very cramped for space and cutting off my work upon putting through an ender is a pain! excuses excuses right!!!
❤️ doggies! Love the quilt too. I never have had a Great Dane. But would love a small pony! Lol
Had a miniature horse once and the dogs where bigger that it was!!! Seriously, I can't imagine not having at least one Great Dane in my life!!!
Its called "poverty piecing" and I do it all the time! Thank you for your tutorial!
I just love studying old quilts to see what they did with what little they had!
Love the fabric. I agree with the person who made the comment before me. That is a gorgeous, gorgeous quilt. 😄
Hi Laurel, thank you so much for your sweet comment!!! Im so glad you like it! Stay tuned for a bonus project made out of the same fabric!!!
I’m in love with your Log Cabin quilt. ❤️✂️🪡🧵
Thank you so much, Connie!!! stay tuned for a bonus project using the same fabric!!!
love the fabrics on this. I like how the design turned out with a star block instead of the traditional log cabin layout.
Thank you! So excited to find your channel.
Im really glad you found my channel too!!! Thank you so much for your comment!!!

Sent by mt scrapmore ❤ That quilt is gorgeous ❤❤❤❤
this was my first log cabin and now I'm hooked!!!
Isn't a honey bun a 1 1/2" strip?
@@debshane4509 It is. But finding Honey Buns with the colors I want for this quilt is becoming difficult. That's why I need yardage help.
Hope the pdf helped!
Absolutely gorgeous. Love the log cabin one of my favorites to make. Thank you.
Its a new favorite of mine too! Thank you so much for your comment!!! keep watching for a bonus project with the left over fabric from this project!!!
So great!❤❤
Glad you like it, keep watching for a wall hanging made to go with this quilt, Im working on the video now!!!!
it looks like “Cocoa Pink” by Laundry Basket Quilts for Andover Fabrics
Thats exactly the line, isn't it just amazing!!!
VERY PRETTY QUILT😊
Love me a log cabin, glad you liked it!!! Stay Quilting!!!
I just found you! I'm excited about downloading your log cabin quilt pattern! Thank you so much for your pattern and I am enjoying your videos!
She is back up and running and I am having a ball with her!!!
wow!! Thank you. It's gorgeous!
Thank you, Teresa, thats so very kind of you to say!!!
I enjoyed this tutorial. I really like the final layout of the squares. I think I will give it a try.
I am so honored!!! please tag us if you share it on social media so we get to see it too!!!
Gorgeous! My first quilt was a log cabin and I hand quilted it.
Thats amazing, hand quilting is something I would love to do again but time and arthritis makes that just a dream I'm afraid!
@@AmericanaQuilting me too. 😔
Maybe one day I will have a quilt that is small enough and special enough to hand quilt!!!
Beautiful quilt! I love it and love that you share what challenges you had.
Thank you Cindy, even with challenges I love ever day that i get to quilt!!!

thank you for the shoot out!!! i appreciate that so much!!! this was my first log cabin and i have to say, im hooked!!!
Lovely colors ❤❤❤

An absolutely beautiful quilt. I would love to have that on my bed. Just stumbled on this website. Good job
Beautiful quilt.
Thank you so much for your kind words!!!
Amazing quilt.
Sandy, Thank you so much for saying that!!!
Love your quilt and the blocks I am going to attempt to make this I am going to try to get your pdf for the layout thanks for this. I have made several log cabins but lobe this layout so thanks again.
Hi Loreen, Go for it! it was really fun to make! if you have any questions reach out to us at americanalongarmquilting@gmail.com
Wow! This quilt is gorgeous! This is my favorite log cabin layout; and you chose fabric from my favorite designer too! New subscriber here. Best wishes to you and beautiful Eleanor.
Thank you so very much for taking the time to watch and subscribing, that really helps our channel grow!!!!
I call that Frankenstein piecing, and you can’t see them once the quilt is together and quilted. I do it mor often than I’d like to, but oh well that’s what quilting is, cut big pieces of fabric into smaller pieces then sew them into big pieces again.
Hi Carrie, love that term!!! i always think of it as creating a brand new textile and since its my creation who's to say I'm doing it wrong!!!!
I downloaded and printed the pattern. I will use scraps and civil war fabric. Thanks.
Suzanna, That sound gorgeous!!! please tag us if you share it on social media, we would love to see it!!!
Hi!
I am trying to find that material you are making that log cabin quilt. I am in love with your videos. I have subscribed, and that means I love your RUclips! Thank you.
I not quilted much… I just may get started with your helpful video.
oh Cheryl thank you so much for subscribing, that makes my day!!! the fabric is Coco Pink by Laundry basket quilts for Andover fabrics.
Beautiful! Thank you for sharing. I’ll be piecing this one for sure . What is the fabric line you used?

Absolutely beautiful quilt! What is the line of fabric you used? Thank you for the pattern.
Laundry Basket Quilts created it for Andover Fabrics I think the line is called Eucalyptus. I am creating a new video now using the left over fabrics to create a wall hanging for the same room. That will have a free pdf too!!! Thank you so much for your interest, I really appreciate it!!!
Wow I thought it was cocoa pink! I have that collection
This is stunning! Thank you for the pattern and tutorial.
Would love to see what you do with yours!!!!
poverty piecing. Looks great.
Hi Darleen,
Yes, I remembered later in the video!!! Don't you just love the thriftiness of quilting!!!
Yikes! I'm sorry Eleanor is down -- I too have a Gammil and I love it! Sorry to hear that it takes that long to get a technician.
She is up and running again!!! Yes, it definitely takes a long time to get the technician out but wow was he worth the wait!!! Taught us a lot and was supper efficient and knowledgeable!!!
Good to hear!@@AmericanaQuilting
Thank. you!
I love your quilt, and those fabrics are just beautiful! Could you tell me what line of fabric that is? Thanks so much.
its a line from Laundry basket quilts for Andover Fabrics. not sure what the line itself is called. I got it from Missouri star I believe. Im so glad you liked it. stay tuned for a bonus project with the same fabrics!!!
What is the fabric range please? It’s lovely
Coco Pink by Laundry Basket Quilts for Andover Fabrics! Aren't they lovely!!!
can I ask if this is a 8 x7 aquares or 8 by 8 squares or 6 x 6 aquares ? Very spectacular
The blocks finish at 10x10. There is a free downloadable pattern on my website, AmericanaLongarmQuilting if you are interested in making the quilt!!! Have a wonderful day!!!
❤ Awwww, special appearance by My Little Pony 😂
donna, if you liked that special appearance wait till you see the bonus project video to the log cabin quilt, Ranger makes a most extraordinary appearance!!!
May I ask where you get the white handle for your ruler. It’d make my life a lot easier for cutting quilt pieces.
I really need to make sure I say what I am using!!! Yes, fabulous fabrics!!! Eleanor is all better now!!!
What sewing machine do you use this time
Hi Tracy, I used my PFAFF 710 Expressions. Its a great machine to piece with. I do have an old Singer that I am dying to use and will very soon!!!
@@AmericanaQuilting: My mom had a Phaff from the late 50's. Was a great workhorse
They sure are Dianne!
Anybody know what machine that is? Driving me crazy! I always have to know what machine is being used!
Eleanor is a Gammill Statler and I just love her to pieces!!!
Good video.
