In these review they always say go for the diesel, i get the torque and mpg advantage but if you do a lot of short journeys, school runs etc and don't want DPF issues than surely petrol is preferable?
or just french HDI with wet FAP/DPF :D
This makes way more sense than the equivalent overpriced and pig ugly BMW
Firemarioflower exactly..! If I ran BMW they'd only make the 2(saloon),3,4,5,6 &7 series. Kias are very surprising these days with the quality. When thinking about a family MPV the last 3 words that come to mind are B M & W..!

I have a touran and its brilliant for my everyday needs but as this is a family car I would put leather seats .
My grandma just ordered this car, cant wait, we've had the previous one which was simply fantastic

Honestly, I would recommend buying this car; because of the fuel economy it carries, the space and seating and etc. This car is honestly perfect for families of five or seven and I most certainly recommend buying it. I am not from Europe sadly, I am from the Caribbean and these cars don't sell here.

Just had one of these as a courtesy car while my mk7 Golf estate was in for repairs. I have to disagree with the "doesn't feel like a van" verdict. Although the steering is excellent for a car of this type, it still has body roll and that general feel of it carrying a lot of weight. Getting back into the Golf, it feels night and day more responsive, and actually quieter - the touran has a fair amount wind noise and the engine is louder for some reason. If you don't need the extra seats, go for the Golf Estate...
1:23 sums it up... most of 7 seaters, 3rd row is for children.. its just there for name sake.. they should say, 5.2 or something..
Looks like a very comfy vehicle to travel in.

Fill the tank, drive a 100 miles and fill the tank again

No i don't , you on the other hand need to see a qualified engineer in order to see the aspects of the VW and how efficient it is. However in this case the Mercedes b class does beat the VW Touran in this case as it has everything speed, power , ability , luxury and looks the amy line of course. I wouldn't say luxurious about the VW, but i would say it is fun to drive!

the camera man is not that great. everything is zoomed in. i'm not here to see the nice lady... more car would be nice. I'm 6 ' 2 and i can't even see how much space is there at the back because he keeps zooming into her face.

Are leather seats uncommon in Europe and the UK? I rarely see them on any car being reviewed.
They are often considered as extra kit, especially on lower end cars. In the us, they are basically mandatory. And in china, rear leg room is what counts. Depends on the country i guess :)

Shame we won't get it over here in the USA I doubt that though since they have pretty much screwed themselves over here with the diesel stuff they may in fact leave the American market altogether like Peugeot and Renault did 2 decades ago. It's not like Americans care about diesel cars anyways no one sells diesel cars other than Mercedes and BMW with a few heavy duty pick up trucks. Great review by the way.
+aabidam well ever since Volkswagen was caught cheating by the EPA they have stopped selling vw and Audi diesels here and every owner on one gets a $500 card for whatever. VW is may end up paying something like $50 billion dollars total for their mistake maybe more. and no companies like Toyota, Hyundai, etc. don't sell diesels here. Here in the USA diesel cars are pretty much only for industrial vehicles and very few German cars.
+aabidam also manual transmissions are almost nonexistent in the USA only like 12% of cars have them and most of the time there isn't even an option for them automatic is the standard

+woodtvnetwork Pretty sure they won't pull out of the US market. They are one of the 3 biggest car firms in the world and their target is to become the biggest. Even though that goal certainly took a hit with the Dieselgate affair, the US market is just too large and important to leave it. But I guess they will think twice about bringing Diesel engines back into NA and probably focus more on the classic gas engines, plus hybrids and electric cars... Which they do have on offer as well, certainly here in Europe. A shame really, because in theory the Diesel would be the ideal engine for NA. Good torque, nice for cruising along, significantly lower fuel consumption and therefore lower CO2 emissions (not talking about NOx here) and a fantastic range on one tank of fuel.
It's weird anyways how the US emissions are stricter on NOx than the EU ones, but less strict on CO2. It's almost as if they are designed to be in favor of gasoline engines over Diesels (and vice versa in Europe). I guess that's lobbyism for you...
+woodtvnetwork yeah, I've been reading about how the VW dealerships are in big trouble, nobody will come in and even look at the cars. But tbh VW did it to themselves. they really downgraded the materials for the US market and cut the content to make them cheaper for the last 5 years. Now we're just left with dull, slow, overpriced cars that don't compete anymore, excluding GTI and Golf R of course

+Leo Phan I disagree. Out of the Vans you can buy this Touran looks and especially drives fantastic. I get my hands on an 2.0 TDI (110 kW) from time to time and when you put the throttle down you definitely dont get bored at all.
I was upgraded to one of these last week when I was in Serbia as a hire car. I must say I was quite impressed with it to be honest. It was a 1.6 Trend, so would be equivalent to the S in the UK.
I had never considered one, especially with a smaller engine having always had 2.0 or 2.2 diesels and currently in in a 2010 CRV. The car had 1000 km's when I collected it and I added a further 400kms, so quite a good test drive. It averaged 47mpd which was not bad considering the constant traffic jams and stop start driving in Belgrade, plus an engine that was still running in.
The only problem in the UK is the cost compared to other VAG cars, principally the Superb, although I know they have a totally different target audience.
I need to buy this car, so it would be pay instalment, meaning on loan.

I'm guessing five child seats will be very unpractical even if it is possible. Not exactly easy access to the seats in the rear if all three seats in the middle has child seats mounted...
+aabidam Yup. But watch 2:05 - she says this is a flexible car because it has room for five individual child seats. I argue it has, but that a lot of the flexibility disappears if you do that. :)

How difficult is it to understand that I commented my opinion on what was said in the video? I do not see how this would be a practical car to have 5 child seats in. If you do - that's fine by me, but I still don't agree.
How does the automatic braking work with a manual gearbox? What if the car is still in gear? Does it just have the side-effect of stalling the car?
No it is normal, pretty much car will break automatically.

iTweakgeek Presuming the automatic braking is working as intended, the driver isn't paying attention. There's no way you could change gears fast enough to keep up with the automatic braking. Unless these cars have some way of applying the clutch automatically, I don't see a scenario where they don't stall.
iTweakgeek Ideally, you can just stomp on the clutch when you feel the car begin to brake, but a system that requires driver involvement isn't really automatic.

The C4 is cheeper, and the interior quality shows that, this is a premium people carrier, the C4 isn't.

+Narasimha S Bhandary there probably wouldn't be enough sales passats and jettas are like the cheapest saloons in the UK most people opt for the A6 or the 5 series they are very popular, I'm not sure but if they stripped it it would have nothing it already has very little equipment after it's been stripped you would be lucky to have wheels right?
+Chatta290 see all vehicles launched by any company that's not Indian OK for example vw Passat has less features than the Passat of Europe so the vehicle with 7 seats is needed in India cause there are many families in India that is more than 5 members and the people don't care about the features OK I have a proof my uncle owns the base model of the Renault lodgy I think in UK it's known as dacia lodgy and there were no radio,alloyseyc but he bought all the things he needed aftermarket which makes the car loaded with features it's better than buying a top.spec model dacia lodgy so its not a huge matter of features here it's only the matter of comfort so suppose I buy a dacia sandero base model I can change it to almost like a merc by buying all that's needed from a car shop like touch screen radio, alloys,electronic mirrors, reverse parking camera and sencers ,Bose music system ,electronic sunroof and xenon lights etc so yeh they can bring this without any features in india
