Tried both a C4 grand Picasso and a Touran. Sorry the Touran is miles better. The dashboard layout is no nonsense and logical with clean lines. Middle seats are nice and big. Rear seats have loads of head room. Closing the doors, you have that airtight sound which will reduce road noise. Sound system is good, lcd screen is quick and responsive. Really good overall MPV no matter how boring the exterior looks.

to each their own... the C4 is way quieter at 130kph, easyer to drive and you wont feel like you got a sure ass after a long drive, i also preffer the dashboard layout and the speedometer location wasnt really an issue after a few hours of driving... in fact i think its in a more logical spot since it sits higher than the standard spedometer and you see more of the road if you look at it...
i dont get your point with the middle rear seat ... you dont get more room than that in any car....
but did you check the chassis becouse VW is pretty bad with their greese coatings and they start to rust in less than a year while citroen has superb factory coating
this didnt come out of my ass... i baught 2 tourans and 4 grand picassos for my firm and i had no issues with the citroens other than a faulty batery not to mention my workers preffer to drive them over the VW.... with the VW i hard to change a timing belt, fuel pumps and i had to take them to get the chasis coated so that they are protected from the elements since VW is just crap with that

Nice video. Just one little thing that Matt forgot to mention about the picasso. There is extra room at the back behind the last seats and under. We traveled this summer, one baby, 3 adults, 3 kids, we still managed to fit 4 cabin lugages at the back and one in front of the baby seat. Also the JBL sound system is pretty good :)

I'm just about to trade my 2012 Touran 1.6SE DSG with 73,000miles on the clock for a 2017 1.7cdi DCT Carens with 46,000 miles. I've had the Touran for two years and it is absolutely the most troublesome and unreliable car I've ever owned. It spent more time in the garage than on my drive. Here's the list; water-pump, EGR Valve, ABS pump and finally gearbox. Apparently mine was the DQ200, apparently notoriously failure prone if not serviced every 40,000 miles, but mine had been and it still packed up. With repairs running at £5000 in two years (half of what I paid for the car) It had to go. I'll miss the elevated seat position, but that's all. I definitely won't miss waiting for yet another orange light to come on in the dash. My day to day runabout is a diesel C3 - 83,000 miles and it never goes wrong. I chose Kia over Citroen because of the warranty. Peace of mind!

It is completely normal on a dry clutch gearbox to change the clutches every now and again, this happens on all dct dry.
Car companies prefer them over a torque converter because they are cheaper to make and have lower C02 emissions. On more powerful engines 250nm+ dct gearboxes have wet clutches which are very reliable but a bit overkill on a 1.6L engine.
I don't see why it's the end of the world to change the clutches which are not expensive every now and again, it makes up for the fuel consumption.

I’ve now done several 640 mile journeys to France , 3 adults, 2 teenagers, a dog - in a crate and all out luggage for a three week holiday. 70-80mph on large parts of the journey. Love how the Germans spend time on what matters, engineering. The better engine, driving feel, overall quality, interior space, and ease-of-use (look at how easy to fold down all seats!). Sure it looks dated already but it's where my money would go.

Germans fake everything, therefore they are almost never best. Citroen is best in this class hands down.

    • @pxidr
      @pxidr 8 лет назад +19

Better engines? By faking emissions tests?
Driving feel? Ford and French manufacturers are better on that side.
Overall quality? Yes, apart from soft-touch plastics, a Toyota is way better mechanically, on the hidden things that the user can't see.
Ease-of-use? You never tried to use BMW or Mercedes infotainement.
Your money goes into the badge and the uber-marketing.

    • @athenastarbrite2955

+pxidr- you think the german cars have higher overall quality but not so about their engines??? My research shows the opposite. You said something about the plastic in German cars being better. My old 2000 Toyota solara SLE V6 was comparable to BMW 525i AS FAR AS FIT N FINISH and leather/wood quality but 525i had a higher performance engine. YES, the Germans make Good engine and have attractive exterior styling. Up until recently, the only BMW that came standard with real wood/leather was the 6 and 7 series. I have a book that tells all the standard/optional equipment on all cars for 2006 and the 3 and 5 series had vinyl upholstery listed as standard but real wood/ leather was optional until you got the higher level 550i and premium pkg on 3s. The only leather on a standard 3 series was the steering wheel. I also found that the leather/wood on my solara aged better then the 06 3 and 5 series I tested. Even the wood/leather on the 745i I tested aged poorly except for the one I found that had the optional upgraded wood/leather pkg. I agree when you said it has a lot to do with the badge.

At least put a S/C-Max in it... because my Touran 2011 drives great, I haven't found anything more comfortable, but now it reaches 10 years it's 1 repair after another. After 170k a new (double) clutch went in and I am looking at a revision of pistonrings. Over the past few years I tried bmx, alfa stelvio, renault grand scenic, tiguan, audi etc. but I drive home smiling in my Touran. The seats are great, it's quiet and it floats over the tarmac. So it probably grew on me but looking for another better brand which reaches the standard of comfort and practical use as the Touran!

I own the a 2008 vw touran 1.9 tdi 6 speed manual 369000km and a 2007 Citroen C4 Grand Picasso 2.0 petrol 6 speed Automatic 225000km. The touran has been ti the mechanics shop 4 times already in the past 4 months. It's there now because the engine turns off while driving at anytime and cranks but wont start for 30 seconds. Picasso rides smoother, more reliable, more luxurious with the glass, more features and better radio, feels kind of like a lexus compared to the Volkswagen. 🎉

I may be a dull engineer, but the logical layout, practicality and "boring/conservative" looks are very appealing. Ended up buying used 2018 facelift version of Touran (based on Carwow reviews) and it has been the best car in practicality sense with couple of kids. One disappointment has been reliability and I'm still little bit anxious when flywheel, DSG or something else blows up...😅 Going to sell Touran before 200k on ODO..

i like the exterior looks of the Citroen C4 "GRAND" Picasso (it sound's better this way), but the interior ( the dash and the cubby holes) it's a big NO-NO, by the way the "race" did not end very FLAT (like the others) for the VW Touran !!!!
