You're going to have to let it go to succeed my friend. I look for and watch videos showcasing interesting and unusual products while providing good analysis and ideas for improvements. You still have that in you. Let that be your guiding light.
I personally avoid drama videos on any channel but I've probably still watched more of yours than any other channel. Right or wrong, wrong or right, it's really not as valuable as the engineer's eye you have and the design commentary I've seen from you.

@@DesignPrototypeTest Well, after watching for a few minutes I didn't really see a solid point of the video, sounded more like the kinds of things that weighs you down if you let yourself worry about it. There was a negativity about something but idk what that is.
My main reason for being picky about what I make videos of is because the creator and the viewer's time are both valuable resources. I just didn't see what this video was about after watching for a few minutes. It reminds me of things I may have let into my mind from the outside world, and the wastes of time they led to. Can't let some things get into your mind, because your mind is worth more.

I realize that you have better things to do than wade into the "drama" of my battle with tHe ComMunItY. When attention spans are scarce I understand why the narrative that I am out of balance emotionally is an attractive answer that allows people to easily dismiss me and escape being burdened trying to establish an impartial truth in the situation. Thank you for your earnest interaction.
There is a cabal. If you don't believe me I can put you in contact with others who have run afoul of them as well. They largely control the narrative in the hobby of 3D printing. They are bullies. They have a registered pedophile in their ranks. They ban me from events, they contact every event and every vendor and tell them not to work with me. They have dragged my name and reputation through the mud in countless comment sections, reddit posts, and discord channels. It kinda looks like Tom is a part of this nasty crew, and the treatment is ongoing. The game for them is to do most of the damage behind the scenes. This ensures that considered folks such as yourself only see me making it public and thus infer that I am the problem. I seize every opportunity I can to make it public because I cannot win the anonymous behind the scenes battles. I'm just one man. Hence the video. Please realize this has been going on for 6 years. This is not a feud. It's one abuse. a group in the hobby with far more influence than I exert mobilizes an army of their followers to damage me. Do you think I could escape their influence and achieve success elsewhere? Do you think they would allow me to gain an audience (a louder voice) when the whole game is about controlling the narrative and they don't want my narrative to be known?

@@DesignPrototypeTest Don't worry, it isn't really me worried about my time, I'm more worried about your time. Something might take one minute of my time as a viewer, but it takes hours of your time as a creator, as a person.
I've made a lot of communities angry at me, especially the Grant Thompson community back in 2019, when I basically made a video saying "He got what he risked", and it would be too easy for me to focus on the shrapnel from my own interactions with others online, and instead just keep plowing forward. I have a lot of people who hate me, been doing youtube too long not to, and I've actually been able to speed ahead and keep broadcasting what I think is right, and I collect people who like me.
One of the biggest disservices the internet can do is to make you think those communities are bigger than they are. I was a professional rapid prototyper at Apple, I post several 3D print files a month on Printables, and yet I don't interact with the 3d printing community. That's by design.
Maybe you won't mind me saying but I think the 3D printing community sits around picking their noses, I don't have time for that.
One thing I keep in mind is that people with online interactions tend to not put any effort into them, so they easily come off as if they are making harsh or evil judgement when they are just frivolously reacting.
I think it might help you be your best self, with less stress, if you find a way to remove the stressfull thoughts that outsiders put in your mind. I continually make sure I weed out thoughts that I wouldnt naturally have come to (if they are a detriment) so as to keep my internal peace.
I don't think badly of you at all, I just have sympathy for you because I have been in similar situations, and I handled it inefficiently for a time. All that worry about the community is unatural thoughts put in your head that keep you from doing the amazing things you would have otherwise been doing.
Worries can entrap you. I realized that my haters don't stop others from watching.

I hate drama. You've called out Prusa (and perhaps others?) So they strike back. Not a surprise. They use their power to attack back. I'm not surprised. How about getting past individuals and move onto products, results, ideas. I like aurora tech. She rates printers, gives the pros and cons and doesn't seem to "go after" any brand or any other YT channel. This is the first one of your videos I've seen in over a year and it's the old story - drama. Others are bullying you and it's not fair. I recall you're a smart guy, an Industrial Designer like me but with a lot of electronics and 3DP knowledge. I think if you stuck to 3d printers, tech, results and ideas, and left off the drama and kept videos to 12 -15mins tops, you would add many subscribers. I think Joseph Prusa might be a bit concerned that you might make a 3d Printer and become competition. No matter. Ignore the torpedoes, full steam ahead. 👍

I will always rock with you on the content side of things. You always bring a really good engineering perspective to 3d printing. The only way to beat the machine is to out do them in content. At the end of the day, the other creators do not want to deal with the drama. I agree with the question you posed on Sanjay. It wasn't disrespectfully, but it posed a real question that everyone seems to be avoiding. But keep in mind Sanjay is a Holy Grail of the 3d printing oligarchs. I personally only knew about all the drama after you talked about it. This is my 2 cents. Don't give in and even mention their names.....beat them in content. If they bring drama, quickly highlight it (briefly!!) and beat them again with better content. The whole series of g {_} |\| $ directly to your door from china is a perfect example of good content (engineering discussion) that they can't possibly make. Heck... make them blocking you on social media an inside joke on the channel, then whoop them again in great engineering content. In Hip Hop terms... You're, " the favorite Rappers, favorite Rapper." Or in other words... The real person who can explain the engineering side without a planned script for the sake of open discussion. Happy early Fathers Day!

The pissing contest is one thing. To point to the best of something, or the worst or something, or the cheapest of something, these analyses have value. In WWII (or it may have been WWI), a rifle was thrown together in such a fashion that parts were not interchangeable from another one. The weapon was so unreliable that attempting to shoot an enemy would only draw attention to you and get you shot by someone with a functional rifle. The rifle was an example of something cheaper than any other but not worth having at any price. Identifying the cheapest possible 3D printer that actually works is worth doing. When I started, it was said by most people that the Ender 3 was just that. Had a $70 machine been available at that time, I would have gone for it because I wanted to minimize the risk that 3D printing just wasn't for me. Luckily it is for me and I just purchased a Bambu Lab A1 Mini and then a P1S a few weeks later. Those purchases were based on your evaluation of a brand of printers that arguably are the best one can get for the money.

    Hello,
As someone that have been in 3d world since I and a friend built each one a "fully custom" Hephestos back in 2015 end, ordering single parts for it from Aliexpress, I value a lot the engineering approach that we find amongst (only a few) content creators, such as you.
You have a deep analytical view from the engineering perspective, that I value a lot. But I tend to drift away from your videos for a good while when this kind of content is uploaded, because it is a felt (to me as a) loss of talent. I know, the channel is yours and you do what you want with it. And I am not pointing any direction to follow, just expressing you my thoughts about this, in a personal and felt way. I was once also a Thomas subscriber, but I also went away since I felt that when his channel started to be his main income, he lost (and we have to agree that it is reasonable to at least filter some "harder" opinions on reviews) some of his "spontaneous spark"... I think that if you earn from X activity, you can't be completely transparent, and therefore, even if we don't like, some lines have to be drawn. My wishes to you are that you keep that spark, upon 3d subjects that matter to you, preferably from your engineering point of view. I learnt a lot from your videos, speacially the how to ones, like the timelapse with SLR and remote, the filament dryer (I use the dehydrator with a cake transporter box instead), etc, and let all that go... :)
    Best regards :)

Everyone is a bit different and thats ok (I dont want to analyze too much here from a non professional stant, nor do I have the full scope of all the moments that have happened). Maybe they are not interacting with you because they are thinking about the potential change of their position in the maker community.
When you talked about brains that are not perfect but still have genius qualities, let's not try to focus too much on how different you are, but more on what you add to society and e.g. the world of 3D printing.

You know what tipped me off to your low social rank? It was the use of the passive voice. saying "If someone wants..." instead of directly talking about MY actions/words. Then you strawman me saying I have no ability to "say OK, there's some people who see the world differently to me" when this is not a behavior I ever exhibited. Here, let me demonstrate:
Ok, you see the world different to me. You were likely raised by a single mother in an politically leftist and female driven environment. You think that the most important thing in the world is to understand and appreciate people who are different from you. As if miscommunication is the ultimate evil. And there aren't predators who don't intend to communicate. They just intend to destroy and take what they want as long as they can get away with it. Understanding them won't stop them from being evil. AND I would argue that I understand those who are different than myself better than you do because I'm identifying the predators who run tHe ComMuNitY while you think they are beyond criticism.
Now that I've proved you wrong on that account let me address this notion that I should be banned from RMRRF because I'm self centered with a persecution complex. These aren't dangerous character traits. RMRRF justified their ban because of "safety." So you are attempting to escape your undeniable wrongness by crafting an irrelevant narrative. Once again you are citing things that make me unlikable or unpopular. Because you don't understand right and wrong. All you understand is group membership. That is why you are able to be manipulated as a brainless member of the mob who refuses to believe the OBVIOUS truth that your king of 3D printing is an severe egotist just based on his stupid shirt (far worse than me because you don't even know my name because I don't want you to because I'm not here for my ego despite your accusations). I'll bet you are the sucker that paid $30 for the privilege of glorifying his ego by wearing the same shirt.
Let me hit you with a truth bomb: You think that you and your in-crowd are powerful in your numbers. That power makes you think you are valuable. But you are just as worthless as you would be without the mob because being a member of the mob means you don't get to think. You aren't allowed to step out of line. If you aren't thinking then you don't control your own actions. You are being lead by whoever is crafting the narrative. You cannot think or say anything that violates the group norms. Lest you become pariah like myself. You have no power. You are a tool who doesn't even have the self awareness to realize what he is. That is why you attack me. Nothing that you've accused me of resembles reality. You are attacking me first and trying to manufacture reasons second.
If you think I'm wrong try steering the group in some way. Try saying something that doesn't go along with the "consensus" over there in your discord. Don't be a spinless flip-flopper either. If you say it stick to it. Ayfekinderya

While I don't disagree with your take that it's a good entry printer, I think that if a person sticks with the hobby, they will quickly outgrow it, while the Ender 3 can grow with them. While it is impressive that it prints for the price, as you said, it's overpriced for what it is and has a lot of caveats. Please help me understand your reasoning, if you have the time.

When I got started in 3D printing, there were no kits. No complete printers. The best you could get was a part kit, not a full printer kit. A wades geared extruder hardware, but not with the plastic. The Mendel threaded rod kit with bolts, but not anything else. No one person was selling complete sets of kits so you can purchase everything you need from one vendor. All the parts had to be purchased from eBay. There was approximately one guide online for full assembly of very specific parts, but no one who sold the complete set. One of the most common printers at the time was the wolf strap, a mostly wooden 3D printer you cobbled together to start printing parts to print another printer. This was the early days, it was brutal, but captivating. There were no easy ways, there were no troubleshooting guides, there were no slicers that were easy to install and no boards that came with firmware, you had to flash and install the firmware and configure all of the settings for your parts and calibrate, you had to do math. PLA was only just being experimented with, ABS was still the norm and 3MM was the de facto filament size, 1.75mm was still new and not widespread. There were no mainstream filament providers, they all came from random Chinese factories on eBay and you had no way of knowing if it was good. The only extruders at the time used Hobbed bolts, manually cut in a garage, there were no machine made extruder parts with precision. My printer consisted of springs from ones, clipboards cut in half , bolts gifted from a local hole in the wall makerspace and a single printed gear for the extruder. It took me 3 years to actually print regularly. 3 years of figuring out what was wrong, why something wasn’t running, how to find out if filament was bad, align and level beds, learn to assemble threaded rods with bolts and keep them square. I had gotten some of the most fantastic prints I ever had from that machine, but it always failed after a few prints. Maybe 6 complete prints from that machine ever, the rest was endless calibration and test pieces. At the end of three years kits started to pop up. I got one of the cheapest acrylic kits around for 200 dollars. I thought it was flimsy, but imagine my surprise when after 2 hours of assembly I could print repeatedly without error. I thought it was the best thing since sliced bread, I recommended it to everyone and got several for a local library for use in their new makerspace. This was still before the names like creality and others really became standard, there was no go-to cheap printer that was reliable and every kit was a different vendor that may not exist a month later. I learned a lot on those machines that’s applied to so much of my life. I taught many children how to use them and repair them in that makerspace, driving 2 hours away after work to teach those classes. I was satisfied. I’ve been watching the advancements and I’m just blown away at what you can get these days at affordable prices, but it seems that reprap spirit has died down a little. It’s always just a race to the cheapest printer, or a better version of an existing design. When makerbot sold to 3D systems and they started patenting free ideas from the reprap forums, the wars began. The innovation is stifled. It’s great about the easy access, but I miss the early days, the raw enthusiasm and that drive for new unexplored territory. It’s been massively commercialized. I enjoy your content and you have enthusiasm, what it’s for varies from video to video, but you never fail to bring excitement in your voice and on your face, your one of the few 3D printer reviewers who displays that passion and it takes me back to remembering that feeling of raw excitement about the ability to digitally manifest physical items feels like. Showing the reality of cheap parts, constant fixes, upgrades, never about “look at this shiny thing I printed”. You show the raw reality. Keep being you, keep being honest.

I think there's a couple things here. First is Tom has been in the 3d printing game for so long and used to high end machines, either tuned himself or higher end machines, and he might be more detached from lower end ones. So like what he feels is "normal" or "acceptable" is significantly higher end than reality, twisting his perception of the cheaper machines.
Second, potentially ego, related to above, that he could believe that the low cost machine (that as above he may believe is even worse than it is) only achieved passable results due to his "expertise".
Therefore putting these two hypothetical thought processes together he could feel that it is crazy for anyone to buy or recommend the low cost printer.
This brings up another thing, how common the use of "crazy" or "insane " or similar statements are when making dramatic or hyperbolic statements. It's extraordinarily common. For instance Elon Musk's infamous tweet about being "insane" not to buy a Tesla because Robotaxis were coming. It's just a common term for drama.
I DO know how much he is on Prusa's jock, but I really don't feel this is related to your review at all as you mention that he's blocked you already. It's just an interesting outlier of a printer to review due to its cost and there's only so many times you can review a new, almost identical to the previous mid range printer in the current market saturation.
If he or Prusa had any foresight, he would show people how to get decent prints out of it as-is, explain the limitations, promote it as a low cost machine for people to test the waters with, and casually mention they could upgrade to a Prusa once they are at the limit of the $70 machine. That kind of sly marketing. Alas they didn't, but I don't feel like they think this is any threat to Prusa.
Anyways, here's my comment for the engagement algorithm. Hope people will stick around to check out your back catalog of videos, CNC introduction, printer reviews, how to on making new bike levers for your kid. I kinda understand why you're doing the drama stuff, but I personally prefer the video types you make that I listed here.

I think that a beginner who wants to get into 3D printing to print things, this little printer is not a good choice at all. However, if you want to get into 3D printing to tinker with and modify the machine, this would be a good entry point, as you suggested. So perhaps you two are thinking about two different kinds of beginners.

    • @DesignPrototypeTest
      @DesignPrototypeTest  3 месяца назад +2

If you have one project that you need to print and you want good quality for the absolute lowest price there is no arguing that this printer is the best option. I showed that for $70 and not that much tinkering you can get your print made. Is it finicky? Absolutely. But at 1/12 the cost I think you can justify a little tinkering for a $700 savings.
Anyway, it's a moot point. We are all experts around here with multiple printers arguing about a theoretical beginner when it's a fact that almost nobody is choosing to enter into this hobby anymore.

    • @yeroca

@@DesignPrototypeTest Wouldn't a better comparison be to one of the standard bed slingers, like an Ender 3 clone for around $150? That'd be a bit more than double the price, but capable of printing larger parts, has a heated bed, and direct drive extrusion.
I have to say that your mods are far simpler, cheaper, and resulted in a nice print. So even though I'm sure Tom had a lot of fun with his project, you might describe it as more of an overhaul solution, that ended up coming up short due to the limited flow rate of the heater and nozzle. He probably learned a lot in the process, but for viewers it probably wasn't that useful except for some intro to input shaping and recent improvements in the sensor design (the USB connection).
Another thing we could maybe guess is that using a B-tree board because of the sponsor wouldn't have made sense on the unmodded printer because it wasn't really capable of using all of the features of the board, and so the printer had to be upgraded to make use of them. That might have influenced his thinking.

I think you are getting a bit too defensive and overthinking stuff about Thomas Sanladerer. I dont know why he would block you and have never watched his videos but it seems he was just making a generalization and expressing his opinion.
That being said, I feel like for the past year or so your videos have gotten a bit too paranoid/obsessed with prusa's attacks rather than just ignoring them and moving on to create content that proves his point about you is wrong. I know he has caused harm to your channel but you repeating the same stuff about sockpuppets and prusa probably moves people away from your channel, even those who have been here for a long time.
I guess what Im trying to say is please move on and be less paranoid about people attacking you (even if it may be the truth). I subbed to this channel cause I loved seeing how you provide great solutions for cheap on pretty much anything and I feel like in the last little while your content has deviated a lot away from that..

It's tribal- once you become a joke to them in their little in group, that's hard to shake... And they'll double - down if you argue or react. Childish idiots sitting behind their keyboards anonymously. I still remember the old comments which seemed like the same bunch of trolls every time for years under different user names. Now looking back those comments where what enraged me and drew me into reading and watching more of your vids. Sure you're not writing them yourself?!! Haha joking.

    • @DesignPrototypeTest
      @DesignPrototypeTest  3 месяца назад +1

      "...writing them yourself?"
I mean, that is a distinct possibility. If I were you watching me I would definitely consider this. There are a few factors that point to this not being the case. The troll accounts have not benefited me in any discernable way. I've displayed the ability to productively employ my motivation and skills elsewhere, so why would I spend so much time fabricating such an intricate lie? If you believe that I am the type of person who just insatiably needs the attention then why don't I say my name on camera? Aren't there better ways for me to attain the attention? Also, you have to believe that I have the ability to manipulate the algorithm such that a video with 11,000 views has 91.4% downvotes but I am not able to manipulate the algorithm to make my channel more successful? ruclips.net/video/Hf2lRzJQpu8/видео.htmlsi=Av1xopz3DT4lpaFE The easier explanation is that Tom, 3DPN, Barnacles, et al who have millions of subs between them simply said a few bad things about me to their superfans and that tiny portion of their viewership hates on me.
Or if you really want to get conspiracy theory on it Prusa makes $7,000,000 per month. So that means there is a large advertising budget to be spent on marketing. How does a company in a former soviet block country approach marketing to foreigners? Perhaps they employ the services of sock puppets in other former Soviet Block countries. AKA Russian Sock puppet farms. These answers are more plausible than me F-ing up myself for the last 6 years Fight Club Style.

I was able to achieve a higher quality benchy and I didn't have to spend like $300 the way he did. There are plenty of videos showing $400 printers making benchies quickly. There is no video showing how to tune up a $70 printer to achieve such results. Not only is my video technical, it is unique. But you didn't watch that one or comment on it. One of the reasons I have been a subscriber for years, is your honesty, and if people have a problem with honesty than this is not the channel for them. Thomas Sanladerer needs to stop being a yes man and start getting a life. I like Thomas and it is hard to see him going down this hole. I am from Mexico and in 2014 when I started on the hobby the only way to get your hands on a 3d printer with out having to pay 3 times more than the US price, the only alternative was to build one, I have built 8 printers since, I have a Siboor Voron trident that I just finished, and there will be spoiled person who can get anything under the sun saying, why don't you get a LDO kit instead, well in Mexico those kits are unattainable and we do the best we can. Same with this little toy, not everyone can afford a prusa, specially since the new MK4 is $2,100.00 dollars after tax and shipping here in Mexico.

I like your videos. I also like Thomas’ stuff and have learned from both of you. I think you have perceived correctly a passive-aggressive slight, so don’t let anyone gaslight you that you didn’t.
However, perhaps his chief motive was care for the buyers and genuine concern at even $70 being wasted by those who might hope to get consistent results rather than simply investing in a first-step learning rig (that may fail within X-amount of time). He may genuinely disagree with your conclusions in a way that got him ‘cross’ and concerned that people may invest (the admittedly small amount) as they foray in to a new hobby and become jaded before they began with a ‘serious printer’ (whatever brand that might be).
That doesn’t excuse the ‘no sane person’ comment and I do believe an apology from Thomas would be a good olive branch if he decided to be friendly in that regard.
I agree with your conclusion that the comment was directed at you and my opinion is that it is unfortunate and unnecessary (and uncharacteristic, which leaves me feeling disappointed).

Because enough of you who seem to support me are saying this I will reveal the multifaceted game I am playing. While it is true that I do respect Tom for his contributions. You have to question my sincerity about being upset or even surprised at his actions towards me. After 6 years of dealing with these people, does it seem like something that would actually bother me? And yet nobody would care if I didn't proclaim a grievance. The wrongdoing would be dismissed because I was seemingly unaffected. So in order to publicize the ill behavior, I must proclaim that it injures me.
What I really do care about is something that would not gain any traction. I care about the Injustice of the algorithm. Because they were able to make me unpopular with their followers my success online has been negatively affected. I care deeply about this. I was robbed. So now I take every opportunity I can to shine a light on their nefarious actions so that their followers will see the ugliness they support.
I have zero hope that I will experience any justice in this situation.
