how kind of you to share your information....most people keep everything secret so that no one else can begin a small business, but your generosity puts my faith back into human kind...lovely products, would love to know more..thank you
Every po box is different. Take the box you want to use and line it, then put it on a scale and pour water into it to the height you need. This will give you a perfect gross weight to work out your formula.
Thank you for making this video. I am just starting out. I'm looking at the trash bags and see .23, .31. .39, .43, .55, .63, and .67 mil thick. Can you please tell me which one you use?
@4:13 A better alternative than the .5mil trash can liners from ULine is .31 mil painters plastic from any home improvement store - Home Depot, Lowes, Menards, etc.
Everytime I catch one of these vids I get so much good information...My little soap business is a year old so I'm still learning and you guys are very helpful. Thank you so much.
The 1st mound I made I nailed it together & it looked really awful. You’re a funny guy. Thanks for sharing. If you’re reading this I wish you great success in life🌹
Drat! missed the contest, but thaks so much for the tip about the trash liner..I already have figured out many things to use for a mold {shoe box and the lid for guest soaps hehe}, but never thought about the shipping boxes..TY!
I wanted to make my very first batch of goatmilk soap today, but I didn't have a mold. I DO have postal boxes, so you have saved this newbie much time, money and stress. I'll make wood molds once I figure out the best size(s), but your PO box idea saved the day for me!! And I HAVE trash liners too. Double bonus!!! Thank you for sharing your expertise!
@@sherrygrunder6134.. To eliminate those wrinkles you can trim the bar. Personally I prefer a large metal kitchen spoon heated in hot water - I use gentle pressure against the wrinkles. It's usually successful after one attempt. If it's an 'unusual' bar (colorful, abstract, 'a happy accident', etc), I might use the heated spoon to add small, shallow swirls along the sides, ends and bottom of the soap. I call them 'Artistic'. Since they are unusual they are often my biggest sellers. I have also used a metal potato masher heated with hot water to add texture on the sides and ends of bars - particularly interesting when honey is a primary ingredient. It seems to remind people of a honeycomb. I usually purchase metal kitchen utensils at yard sales, Goodwill and Salvation Army Stores. Wire brushes can add texture although not my favorite - unless it's a charcoal batch of soap. (For cutting soap into bars I use Cheese Slicers. Cutting slabs are my biggest challenge. At 72 I will not be investing $3,000+ on equipment and supplies for making soap. I also make jewelry and repurpose furniture. I repurpose old empty laundry detergent and bleach containers to use for mixing products for soap and furniture.)
Thank you for sharing the "behind the scenes" fo your soap making world. You're a great mentor who's not afraid to share "trade secrets" with others who want to make + sell soap, too. That's super cool. Thanks!
New to soap making Great tips ! I have to admit the first wood mold you showed at the beginning of the video was the biggest I ever seen, wow!! Thanks so much Jeffrey!
I love you Jeffrey! ;) I am disabled and on a small SS ck a month...Making soap for me and my family will be fun for me since I am home 24/7 I needed something to cheap for molds..I just subscribed...I am going to go to your other site. now...thank you so much...I would love to win a 100lbs of soap...I never win but I will be happy for that person that does...I am SO happy I found this channel...Now I can make a mold and make my fist CP soap and for that I am so grateful...Blessings to you and yours Jeffrey,...Victoria
Bless you for sharing.....Just checked some sites and they charge more than the item on the S&H. Ridiculous....so this info saved the day......THANK YOU SO MUCH
Thank you!! I am just starting out in making soaps and am on a budget, I don't know why I didn't think of cardboard for molds! My husband is really good at cutting and building all kinds of crazy things out of boxes for my kids, so I am going to put him to work! If it doesn't work out, well it is perfect for test batches :) Thanks again!
no lye = no soap and u have 2 let it sit 4 4 weeks because the lye needs 2 cure out of the soap if doing hot proses soap then its fine almost when finished :) hope that helped
Thank you so so much for sharing these tips! My daughters and I are embarking on soap making as a hobby to income producing activity and this is going to be very helpful! Again thank you!!
Thank you so much. I have been thinking about buying the big mold for a long time and it costs expensive because i am a beginner. I use to make cardboard shelves in my weekend for fun. I use to wonder why i am doing this and now i find the purpose. Thank you once again.
Wow what a nice guy thank you sooo sooo much no one ever wants to share this info so others wouldn't start a business and be their competition i get it, but at the same time i myself want to start doing soaps as a hobby for myself and my family so this kind of tips are very useful, Thank you so much and God bless you and wish you a successful business. ❤
tks for video. have done alot. one of my best molds is a 24 inch long mold made of cardboard and duck tape on outside lol.., and I have used it again and again and again.
Hey There Mr.Dorrian i'm from Sri Lanka and i am passionated of starting of making soap, great i found your channel thanks for all the clear hints given here, love to see your store around you.God Bless for your Business ;)
thank you so much I'm getting into making soap but I don't want all that initial cost up front so I've been collecting stuff here and there and made my first batch so awesome I have been buying and loving home made soaps for years so now I can make my own.thanks for all the tips
Thank you for all the free great ideas for soap molds, I am a beginner and being cost effective is the first thing. Now I'm looking around my house to see what I can use for a mold after I order the plastic from Uline. Thanks so much....
You are now my new found Brother. THANK YOU MUCH. This really brought tears to my eyes that you provide this great information. AND i'm also buying soap from you too! Love
LOVE this idea!! I've got 7 cardboard boxes im going to use for multiple batches... the only thing that may be tricky is cutting consistent bars, as each box is a different size! But hey, its FREE! Thanks!
The small edges can be sold as 'samples' - for $1 or so. Or bundle enough edges to reach half the thickness of your regular bar and sell it for half the price of your regular bars. List the name of each slice and hope for orders. If you list online (etsy and such), include a blurb re 'spend $75 or more per order and receive a sample of a bar for free ... subject to availability'. Being able to actually experience something different might lead to future orders. Some customers want the slivers to 'scent' their bathrooms, bedrooms, vehicles, etc.. I save all the edges that I bevel and tiny cut-offs to create 'Soap Confetti' and 'Far Out' bars. (Far Out is never predictable yet quite popular. I usually use black aka charcoal but dark blue as the base is also lovely. I roll the soap bits into balls and toss them in the dark base, I prefer ½" and¾" spheres, maybe some ¼". It can be extra fun with bits of neon. It's reminiscent of space travel without leaving home. Being able to see 2-3 spheres on each side was my goal. I usually have limited bits for spheres and the novelty is often lost when it becomes too busy. I do not add any fragrance to this process, there's so many hints of fragrance in every sphere it could become overwhelming.
for perfect same size bars every time use the Brownie pan with the insert just spray all of it with pam...not cutting just lift out the insert when dried..
Hey Jeffrey, thank you so much for all these great ideas with the soap molds.store bought molds are very expensive so this is a great way to make soap and save money on the molds.thanks again.
For all soapers out there try this for liners in moulds go to your local hospital and ask them for old x ray films. Stip off the image with chlorine bleach neat and dish liquid 5% to bleach (check youtube ) be very careful of the shiny side DO NOT scrub it or scratch --only on the image side. Leave the film in solution for a couple of days and in a safe place use common sense with chemicals. Now proceed to wipe off the image on the film and where good gloves and goggles plus work outside in a safe place and wash with water till you end up with a clear tinted blue sheet of Acetate film dry off and be careful you don't scratch the high gloss side of the film. Now that was the easy part (no not really) you will be able to line you wooden molds and PVC pipes as you can crease the film glossy side to the soap in your molds and trays etc This is so cheap to do one film will do 2 small moulds 300mm long so no more sill lining of molds and PVC pipes ,for example the film is springy and you can make a small roll say 1 1/2 turns and run sticky tap along the outer edge to seal it and pop it into a pipe with a bung in the end and chuck in your soap batter almost forgot always leave 25mm of film sticking out the top. Now for the wooden molds work out the dimensions of the box and crease the film to slide into the box and sticky tape around the out side edges and pop that in to your box mold. I am thinking of getting access to over 1500 old x ray films and cleaning them and selling them on e-bay for around $5 for 5 plus postage as part of my business. As my wife has a bulk soaping business and I have lost her in the workshop I am the dogs body that does the running around and com up with time saving concepts to help her save time. A side note we were looking for cheap sodium hydroxide and I found some a few miles away in an online trader site this bloke had 200kg for sale so we bartered and picked the lot up for 50c a kg WOW that was a big win for us. So do you scavenging online and see what is surplus out there you will be surprised on what you will find like colorants that the Indians in India use for the festivals and it is all food grade $24 a kg and in fluro colors as well so cool we are producing a 200gm soap bars for 65c a bar at the moment and selling for $5 ea. Merry xmas to all I hope I have been of some help Bob Murton
You must use lye to make soap. Without Lye you will not have Soap! You need to let it cure for 4-6 weeks so that it is fully cured and the water evaporates from the soap. If you use it sooner the soap will not be as hard nor last as long. Saponification is finished within 48 hrs (all of the lye has finished reacting) however the soap won't last that long unless you let it cure for 4-6 weeks for a Cold Processed soap. HP takes 2 days.
Thank you Its good honest people like yourself are not afraid to help out everyone with your knowledge and secrets you have learned over the years :) Cheers mate
Thanks for the info on this video. Im new at making soap. The first couple of batches didn't turn out the best in the world. Just can't figure out making the swirl the way I want them.
this is the first time seeing this I loved it sure wish I had known before now. I'm still in the learning phase. Thanks for being so helpful I appreciate it.
you gave me a great idea!! using an old drawer from someone's dumped furniture! thanks :) i have used discarded plastic political signs and cut them to the loaf size... when you line the mould with the trash liner, it doesn't leave a wrinkle mark on the soap? or do you shave them down later (i can't imagine you're doing that cuz that's time consuming!)... thank for sharing!
Two questions Jeff. How much soap fits in the postal boxes in lbs? and why can't you use the trash liners over again? Thanks for sharing some of your secrets!
Hi Jeff! Thanks for the information. How do you cut those huge pieces of soap into loves? I have tried all kinds of home contraptions LOL. Your soaps are so smooth.
thank you thank you thank you!!!!! How would I cut a loaf that large, from a medium USPS box? And can I use a regular plastic garbage bag to line my box? Thank you from a newbie!!
Hi Jeffry, I am new a making soaps but have made very nice soaps so far. I really like this video about the molds. I don't have a budget to be buying expensive molds (i have bought some on amazon and some at the dollar store. No i decided to make my own molds. Today I got me a few pieces of wood for $5 at the Salvation Army Store that would make two nice size molds. Now, my concern is: Can I make Hot process soap with this wooden molds or these are just for cold process soap? Thanks
I've never made soap before and I'm very serious about being successful with soap making and I must agree with the other subscriber who said that molds are such a dilemma. Thanks so much for the postage box idea, however i'm now confused about how to cut the soap that comes out of the postage box since I can not use just a regular loaf wire cutter. How did you guys cut your post office box soaps?
Hi Jeffrey, just found this video. I was wondering if I could use the plastic bags that come from grocery stores and such. Also, when you say a trash liner do you mean garbage bag or are they different? Thank you!!
I can actually answer this because I made this mistake. I've had the colors bleed into my soap so I wouldn't use them unless they were a uniform color, no printing on them. The cost for the bags he is using comes out to about 4 cents per bag. I don't know about shipping. I hope this helps.
how kind of you to share your information....most people keep everything secret so that no one else can begin a small business, but your generosity puts my faith back into human kind...lovely products, would love to know more..thank you
Thats true,he is been open to us,someone was explaining to me how to get those moulds with huge amounts of money
A trick: you can watch movies at flixzone. Been using them for watching lots of of movies lately.
@Tyler Ben definitely, been watching on flixzone for since december myself :)

yes, it is. Do be careful to smooth out the wrinkles though, or you'll have weird indentations in your soap!

the plastic bag wrinkles can be smoothed out before hand or planed off after unmolding.

How did you guys cut your post office box soaps?

100% true soaper wisdom! Very good post mate! However, the "green screen" is a little off-putting...
