The voice didn't need to be fixed. She was taking on the formal tone of royalty and doing so on purpose. The sort of frozen facial expression and the formal, deeper, more monotone voice was very common for royalty throughout world history. I totally agree, and I always find this and the way Anakin is brought up as a Jedi to be one of the huge reasons they fall in love. This is their biggest similarity: they both grew up with the world’s weight on their shoulders, taught to maintain complete control over their emotions (read as: repress). As a queen, Padme was to remain calm and stoic, as Anakin was trained to do as a Jedi. The result is two people who are both mature adults with childish flaws from growing up too soon. I found it extremely different, but I'm an audio engineer so it would be pathetic if I couldn't identify the difference. The creator knows the stylistic choice is very deliberate by the way. But not everyone enjoyed her manner of speaking. Many found it confusing, so I understand where you're coming from.
@@sarah-annecarney7552 Yes finally someone with sense. Without the post production, she sounds like a 13 year old/child putting on a deep voice, but in the movie, she actually sounds like a queen.
See, they had so much potential with this character. One very basic thing that they screwed up was the reveal in the second one that she was ELECTED as queen. First, I'm not sure you know what the definition of "queen" is if you're saying she was elected. Second, while history has shown us rare examples of monarchs rising to power while they were still young and doing a great job at ruling their nations, it is, frankly, almost incomprehensible to think that some group of people somewhere thought, "Here's a 14-year-old politician who would be a great ruler. Let's elect her!" I know that Star Wars is space fantasy, but one of the main rules of the entire fantasy genre is that people still need to act like people. Then, between the second and third movie she goes from bad-ass politician to crying baby. They even cut an idea from the script where she actually went to Mustafar with a knife with the intention of killing Anakin, only to decide that she couldn't do it. How much more interesting would that have been than what we got? Missed opportunities. Not saying these movies were bad per se, but the missed opportunities still hurt a bit sometimes.
I don't like either. Honestly, I think episode 1 should have been episode 2, followed by a mid clone wars battle in my episode 2, and finally ROTS. Just my cup of tea.
Strange that I always thought she said: "I will not condone a course of action that will lead OUR PEOPLE to war". I guess I mistook the line for one she later.
Was watching the trailer on the original DVD release and her voice is completely different. Still has the accent, but it actually sounds unnaturally high instead of low. Was very weird. Apparently they changed it in post-production, after all the trailers were out. I didn't remember that at all. This would actually be a better edit than either that or what they went with.
I actually didn't mind the much younger voice from the trailers. I liked the fact that she sounded young because it really highlighted the idea that she was very young and entrusted into this position. What I find stupid is that they made her position something that is 'elected'. How could someone so young get elected to lead a world? And why is it always teenagers? The only way someone that young could rule is if it's inherited. I would have found that more compelling.
jessc1979 that's because Lucas wrote her character stupidly and wanted her to bitch about "wahhh muh democracy is dying" in subsequent films. A queen is a bit of a hypocrite to complain about that if she's unelected. So he basically had to change it after the fact to an elected position which made little sense
The thing is they left out a lot of background. In Padme's case, I had no idea she was Princess of Theed prior to her reign, or that even was a thing. And that she went through Naboo's "Legislative Youth Program" that Palpatine also went through.
It would have made more sense if she was elected Queen by the Naboo Parliament because the previous ruling royal house had died off without heirs and Padme's royal house was the next highest in ranking. Illogically though, they wanted the queen to be both an elected ruler (like a president, with fixed terms) and a teenager (with vague authority) and in so doing made the role little more than that of a beauty pageant winner.
I always assumed from a production standpoint that they had to find a tone that both Portman and Knightly could match identically for the decoy twist to work, not really a canon explanation but possibly a real world one.
She is deep intentionally. She only lightens her voice in a sense of distress which reminds people she is young, she deepens to give a facade of maturity
This makes me think of when Most ApexTV (a RUclips channel) time travelers have their faces burred and voices distorted. The time traveler’s distorted voices sound very deep
Well she sounds younger, and considering she's supposed to be 13 or 14 in this movie this certainly seems fitting. Just wish that they could have held off on casting Portman until Episode 2. She may have been 16 or 18 when filming this, but she looked like she was already 25. Hence that whole age gap between her and Anakin was exaggerated (when 5 years in actuality is normal for many folks) solely because she did not at all look like a 14 year old.
What? I've never heard of this. The queen in the second movie had a high pitch too Whatever you may think of this change it is true that Natalie Portman's voice was pitched down for the movie and this is the closest thing to hearing what her voice was like originally.
I think Padme spoke in a deliberately strange way when in full queen costume so it'd be easier for Sabe to pass herself off as her. If both of them spoke in the same way (and wore makeup to further conceal their appearance) it'd be harder to tell them apart.
Forgive me, but before Palpatine turned into to the dark side - it seemed like he and Padme Amidala had beef in episode 1. So, is there a chance he gotten revenge in episode 3 when killing her with his own force? Some say he really killed her during child birth instead of Anakin.
+robotcookies I got that, but I meant this video was fixing Amidala's voice in TPM which was obviously lowered in post. But I guess there's no harm in pointing *that* out :)
'Unrealistically deep voice' Well, looks like I'm gonna have to travel back in time and tell fourteen year old me to speak in a higher pitch because apparently my natural timbre wasn't actually natural. It does sound a bit less monotone, though - I do think you did a good job with that. It's just silly to imply that the original depth was too mature for a girl old enough to be in high school when I can say from firsthand experience that it's really not.

@@AspectClip Nnnnnope. It's Padme. Her decoy is only used in a few scenes as Queen Amidala. Plenty of resources. From the sounds of it you think each time we see the Queen it's a decoy but this is not the case my freind.
She sounds exactly the same. Not sure what you were trying to achieve here, her voice was fine anyway.
Adam Harris nah, watch the movie again. They made her voice even lower in post production.
She doesn't, she still has the same speech pattern yes but the tone is much higher and lighter. Not everyones ears can detect the difference.
When is the voice change? It all sounds the same to me
*Hearing this is like a nice warm hug.*
Love seeing all her outfits!
She wanna a hug
I am with you. No teen can make their voice intentionally deep without it sounding fake. Your edit is more realistic, thank you.
“We are your humble servants”
*puts the gungans on the front lines*
Her voice became more and more American
This makes her sound much less monotone to be honest.
Let's elect her!"
I know that Star Wars is space fantasy, but one of the main rules of the entire fantasy genre is that people still need to act like people.
Oh... and you did a great job with the re-dubbing. Sorry I failed to mention that.
@@nicobones9608 no he didn't
Sounds exactly the same
No point of doing it
EPISODE 1 IS BETTER THEN THE RISE OF SKYWALKER. YA, I SAID IT.
Pretty much, yeah.
I don't like either. Honestly, I think episode 1 should have been episode 2, followed by a mid clone wars battle in my episode 2, and finally ROTS. Just my cup of tea.
The prequel movies have many qualities, some fans refuse to acknowledge
Pretty sure I'll remember more from Phantom Menace than whatever happened in Rise of Skywalker. That felt like a really confusing drunk dream.
Episode I is better than ALL THREE sequel trilogy movies. Yeah, I said it.
Those moments when Palpatine seems to look at her but saying nothing.
I like her voice for some reason
Gotta admit, this has gotta be the best Padme has ever looked.
Damn she's 14 no wonder why anakin fancied her
Rango pistacho yeah and he was 9 lol
@@thegalacticgalaxy2078 Eh that's not to bad, they didn't really start talking like that till he got older.
Kaneki Ken yeah I know, but he still gave her the necklace thingy. And that’s not even bad, was just saying he was 9
Strange that I always thought she said: "I will not condone a course of action that will lead OUR PEOPLE to war". I guess I mistook the line for one she later.
It's amazing how just a simple edit in the audio mix can improve something vastly.
Damn the crush I had...Natalie ❤
she hawwwwwwwwwwwwttttt
Love queen amidala
It's a subtle change but very well done. It picks her voice up off the floor and gets rid of the 'what the ???' tone of her voice.
At first I was like “She’s so annoying. What the heck?!” And then I remembered she was 14 and said “Oh god, that’s too accurate”
The actor was 18 though the character of Padme is canonically 14.
Phantom Menance is my favorite Star Wars movie!
SO MUCH BETTER oh my god
Very interesting...
The thing is they left out a lot of background. In Padme's case, I had no idea she was Princess of Theed prior to her reign, or that even was a thing. And that she went through Naboo's "Legislative Youth Program" that Palpatine also went through.
+DragonHeir92
Very interesting. Thanks for the info.
2:56Anakin:WHHAAAAAAA😲
My mission is to fuse Earth and Sky, Senator
Hay look, you also fixed Jar Jar's voice in those scenes. :D
He’s been our strongest supporter!
I will not defer!
Her whole energy that Natalie gave the role, my favorite
What a crazy and smart way to retcon Leia speaking differently when she was acting as Princess vs. when she was just Leia.
Leia?
When she speaks to Grand Moff Tarkin she puts on a posh English sounding accent as if it is official business. It’s right there in the movie.
@@ChaseWulff Oh I was confused because I haven't seen the original trilogy in a while and this video was about Padme
Queen Amidala is beautiful in the star war 😄😄😄😄
Maureen Goeller Yes, she is.
I like the voice A LOT.
I always assumed from a production standpoint that they had to find a tone that both Portman and Knightly could match identically for the decoy twist to work, not really a canon explanation but possibly a real world one.
the deep voice was hot af tho
She is deep intentionally. She only lightens her voice in a sense of distress which reminds people she is young, she deepens to give a facade of maturity
She literally had so much proof.
Beautiful voice.:)
She was good in these films
Great video!
Really love her costumes!
This makes me think of when Most ApexTV (a RUclips channel) time travelers have their faces burred and voices distorted. The time traveler’s distorted voices sound very deep
If anyone needs a short man with a lady's voice for any voiceover work, I'm your half-man half-bitch.
Queen amidala is pretty
She looks pretty eerie with that pale makeup and that dress.
It should have sounded like this to be more realalistic!
From top to bottom, Amidala’s throne room ensemble is a masterpiece
In one of the trailers you can hear her say the get to your ships line in her real voice.
In every scene she seems so royal yet so foreign. Good sci-fi
The force must have been very strong with Queen Amidala because she deceived the two powerful Jedis when she poses as the Queen’s Handmaiden.
How did I not pick up on her being the same age as my sister when I first watched episode 1
She so beautiful 😍😘❤️
You do realize she's 14 years old
@@Chester_Arthur They could also be around that age for all we know.
There are some nutty “Queen” outfits
Well she sounds younger, and considering she's supposed to be 13 or 14 in this movie this certainly seems fitting.
Just wish that they could have held off on casting Portman until Episode 2. She may have been 16 or 18 when filming this, but she looked like she was already 25. Hence that whole age gap between her and Anakin was exaggerated (when 5 years in actuality is normal for many folks) solely because she did not at all look like a 14 year old.
Elizabeth Holmes got inspiration for her lower voice from this.
Birinin uzun zamandır bunu yapmasını bekledim. Ellerine sağlık hehehe
+Zelal Çelikten Teşekkür ederim :))
She's my favorite part of the trilogy.
It sounds like two voices combined.
Hard to believe Keira was only 12 when she played Sabé.
Its less monotone. Good stuff!
.... This is my decoy... My protection... My loyal bodyguard.... My bitch.
Naboo people: *apparently suffering and dying*
"Sympathetic" Queen Amidala: *dresses richly and lives and luxury*
She went back to Naboo to fight against the droids even though everyone disagreed with it
I love all scenes Queen Amedla of Naboo in Star Wars.💖
Me too
You just pitched it up. it's the royal Naboo voice. It is tradition
What? I've never heard of this. The queen in the second movie had a high pitch too
Whatever you may think of this change it is true that Natalie Portman's voice was pitched down for the movie and this is the closest thing to hearing what her voice was like originally.
I think Padme spoke in a deliberately strange way when in full queen costume so it'd be easier for Sabe to pass herself off as her. If both of them spoke in the same way (and wore makeup to further conceal their appearance) it'd be harder to tell them apart.
Padme was at least 3 or 4 years older than anakin. Which is why he met her at age 10. (I think he was 10.)
Holy crap she was only 14 in this movie?
Padme was 14 and Natalie was about 18
Mayra Branham Thanks! I was and still am totally in love with her in this movie. She’s just stunningly beautiful.
@@tonydardi332 same here
I fell in love with her outfits
whenever i say queen amidala i say it like this and i’m scared
She's using her canterlot voice lol.
AYYYY good one mate!
Forgive me, but before Palpatine turned into to the dark side - it seemed like he and Padme Amidala had beef in episode 1. So, is there a chance he gotten revenge in episode 3 when killing her with his own force?
Some say he really killed her during child birth instead of Anakin.
I am aware of that theory, but what does this have to do with the concept of the video?
+Masirimso Fanedits body language and the way he looks at her
+robotcookies I got that, but I meant this video was fixing Amidala's voice in TPM which was obviously lowered in post. But I guess there's no harm in pointing *that* out :)
+Masirimso Fanedits lol I'm apologize, my Lord
+robotcookies don't worry 👍🏻
'Unrealistically deep voice'
Well, looks like I'm gonna have to travel back in time and tell fourteen year old me to speak in a higher pitch because apparently my natural timbre wasn't actually natural. It does sound a bit less monotone, though - I do think you did a good job with that. It's just silly to imply that the original depth was too mature for a girl old enough to be in high school when I can say from firsthand experience that it's really not.
I said it was unrealistic because it was clearly fake and manipulated supported by the fact that other scenes with Padme had her normal voice
