- After taking his place in the chair, the winning bard is honoured through a number of ceremonies. The first is to be hailed in song. Here the Welsh singer Shan Cothi performs.
I came across this video as I’m putting together a playlist of Welsh culture for a Ukrainian lady I’m hoping will come to stay with us here in Wales. And this was the second result: my old music teacher, Miss Morgan, from Ysgol Gyfun Ystalyfera! I guess Wales is a small place! 🤣🏴
Not Welsh, plenty of Irish blood and a lover of words, songs and poetry. This is amazzing.
Gwir Vretoned ! Gant gwir abeg, Gwir Vretoned enez Preden bepred bev ha feal ! Gourc'hemennoù d'ar ganerez dispont kalonek-mañ !

this is awesome
Got the school Eisteddfod tomorrow. Cannot wait for this bit of it! I love this bit of the Eisteddfod b/c you never know who's won what! :)
griffcats, you are right: the words of this Eisteddfod song are sung to the traditional air of Rhyfelgyrch Capten (or Capden) Morgan / Captain Morgan's March, the first words of which are "Rhwym wrth dy wregys".
The same tune is used in the military march Men of Glamorgan.
The same tune is used too in traditional breton song "Pardon Sant Cado"
Beautiful
mayonhaponMY - Hi, I see that you visited Wales and Penglais School. I used to be a student from Penglais School and I don`t live far from Aberystwyth. If you have any questions about Wales or the Welsh culture feel free to ask. Greetings from Wales!
Greetings Celtic Dragon, I live near Lampeter :D
My first eisteddfod as a sound engineer was Lampeter 1984...! Llanbedr Pont Steffan a’r Fro, to be precise!
One of my duties was to put microphones and loudspeakers on the Gorsedd circle on the Tuesday and Thursday... early in the morning! Once the mic stands were in place, the local ladies would disguise them with twigs and flowers!
I know that tune as Rhwym wrth dy Wregys or Rhyvelgyrch Cadpen Morgan but the words are very different.
@Gramson28 you must feel like you won the lottery !

Ninnau, gymrodyr, eiliwn ein boddhad;
Calon wrth galon yw cri'r Corn Gwlad.
Llygad goleuni beunydd ar ei lwydd,
Duw a phob daioni iddo'n rhwydd.
| Henffych Brifardd! Gweiniwyd llafn y cledd,
| Bloeddiodd yr Eisteddfod yn unfryd, Hedd.
Gwir Vretoned !

Henffych i'n Prifardd ar fuddugol hynt,
Seiniwch ei enw i'r pedwar gwynt.
Hwn ydyw brenin beirdd yr Ŵyl i gyd
Cenwch yr utgorn i bedwar ban y byd.
| Henffych Brifardd! Gweiniwyd llafn y cledd,
