Having actually driven this road in October 2023 but in reverse fashion from Kasi to Phou Koun I will say Todd we loved the views of Sky mountain and it brought it all home to us. This is such a climb but for you a decline that most people have no idea of. Those bloody Chinese Semi Trailers are so many in number and honestly we could not believe there would be that many on the roads up there. We cannot wait to drive back up there mate.
Truly an epic adventure for you guys. Beautiful Video and wonderful musical score. You're right Todd, it's not the trucks , it's the drivers. Nevertheless, it's scary. You got to love those drone shots. How cool. All the best mate. 👍👍 Jim and Harriet
Great vlog. Start in the pool end in the pool. Mina mermaid has get to be wrinkled but not from the water it the road. Going to have gray hair, too. All those check points along the way don't slow down the trucks. Great flyover always so nice. Have great night. Safe travels on Sunday, Todd Neenee and young Mina.
Whoa, the rainy season is on and going up those mountain roads is a bit nerve wracking. Really awesome drone footage to go with how green everything is this time of year. Cool place you stayed in, and it wouldn't be the same without a swimming pool for Mina. Now E 6 is in the past and I look ahead to E 7. Cheers, Todd!
I've got to get up there before it spoils! So much of Lao is still magical in its beauty. BTW little miss Mina is becoming quite the little English chatter box:) cheers ron:)
🤗🙏! Thank you 🙏, enjoyed it. Except that I don’t have any fingernails left, watching you guys going through those ginormous trucks🫣 Have a wonderful day.
Totally agree !! I have driven the main and back roads there. Certainly, the big (BIG) potholes are an issue - but the (big) BIG trucks are dangerous, and stressful. I like the back roads, with no trucks best. 🙂
Too many truckers and too much rain at this time for your making beautiful video of Lao Life for us to see. I agree you that Laos is dangerous for travelers.
Great vlog as always Todd. Those roads were not designed for articulated lorries and the surface is continually battered and broken! I would think that the one in the ditch miscalculated as he was faced by one coming the other way at speed! Whatever happened it will take some time to clear it. That resort looks amazing with the river flowing very swiftly by and the backdrop is just wonderful. Thanks for sharing as always. God bless the whole crew 😀❤🙏
One of your finest, Todd. Just loved everything about this, from the anxious moments you all endured on the road, the relief at the resort, scenery and music. In all honesty, i could feel what you put into those moments. WOW!!
Thanks Ade. I've said it many times to myself.. I'll just do a quick video, throw it together, nothing fancy. I just can't, once I start the beauty of this place just screams for more. Really appreciate that you enjoy them so much. Take care mate 👍

Thank you again for sharing your journeys, it means a lot. Just peaceful and inspiring to watch these trips through an extremely beautiful place. Except for those impatient truck drivers, of course.👍😊
It’s the only road. I was on a bike tour round northern Laos last November at end of rainy season, the roads were horrendous. The only problem are the trucks they own the road, several times I ended up totally off the road.
Hey Todd , I just read a travel industry research paper that said that children who go on protracted road trips without an etch-a-sketch to occupy their mind almost always grow up to be chronic nose-pickers. This happened to my brother. I used to hog the etch-a-sketch on our family trips and all he had to do was to stare out the window with his little mind on flutter. In all our family pictures and even on his passport picture poor Bob has his index finger up his snout. Something to think about , yes?
An American DOT ( Dept of Transportation ) Officer would have a Field Day with those trucks. Laos is missing out on millions of dollars/kip in fines for weight per axle rules and general maintenance inspection fines like brake shoe thickness measurements, lighting regulations, log book infraction fines, ect, ect, I'm sure the government would never see a dime of the money though. In good news, bought tickets for my next trip. Will be over in January to meet the fiancee's extended family. That dinner is going to cost me ? Will try to save some money for another donation for your trips. Take care!
Write them some safety tickets. They won’t be safer. They will just have less money for food, or in some cases no money and food. In the Philippines they just confiscate the motorbike that the breadwinner bought after saving up for 3 years. It’s a form of legal theft. The hungry kids are the ones that pay the price. It’s not making anything safer.
Hi Todd. Andy in Hillston NSW. The truck traffic. Is it getting worse each year? What's your take on this? I would not recommend today's trip for the average Aussie traveller. Not a lot of road sense in Oz these days. Lovin' the work!! 👍🏻
Those roads and tucks, are a bit of a miss- match ,aren't they,as we have seen in quite a few of your videos.Fortunately Todd, you are well aware and cautious.Hotel location looks a gem ....Cheers ...Kenno
Hello Todd. Asia and I had the same problem with a truck traffic jam in Phou Khoun. Except it was backed up on the road to Luang Prubang all the way through the village backed up on both roads. Scott
Unlike scania or Mercedes actross those Chinese trucks have tendency to loose brakes if driver overuses footbrake instead of freno.you should not allow them to follow you downhill rather follow them.
There's far too many trucks using that road as it is. Plus you can bet half of them never got a legal licence. Guess you felt the pool at the end made it worthwhile tho. Bushyboy Oz.
Out of curiosity, do the drivers of those large trucks require a special license? Here in the US, you need to have a commercial driver's license (CDL) and different certifications for different trucks and payloads. Some of those drivers are quite dangerous behind the wheel considering the road conditions, weather, and little consideration for others on the road. 🙏👍
Believe it or not my visit Vang Vieng in 1999 there was little the to even call it a village. We. had to find someone to open a cabin there. The blue lagoon was so small only about 2-3 people could get in. No place to eat there so we had to walk up the road a small place to eat. All Lao food. Only way we got anything done was my wife is Lao.I have been many times and it seems to worse. But that's the way the world gos. The Chinese will kill it all. A casino on the old CIA airstrip.
Main reason for the poor condition of the roads are the government doesn’t have money enough to reconstruct and expand that road across Laos to Vietnam Besides you can only keep a speed approximately 45-50km/h
@@BlackHmong85 This is Episode 6 in this series. The previous videos will answer your question 😉 There is so much more to Laos than Vang Vieng and Vientiane.
