I was there a couple days ago and they made me park in the Soak City parking lot and the main lot south of the park was closed to traffic. Maybe they're prepping to add a hyper to that area.

I know this isn't a popular opinion but Knott's doesn't really need a Hyper or Giga. They should just build smaller compelling coasters like a Hyper GTX (Non-Inverting), Raptor, maybe even an El Loco, bring back a single rail Soap Box Derby. They could also add Sally Dark Rides and stuff like that. As far as parking they could just build a parking garage. Another thing they could do is work with Paramount to bring back a version of the Star Trek experience. CF was running it in Vegas and something like it with the museum of the future could be unique and very cool for Knott's.

Knotts should interlock their rides more. It's cool anyway to see rollercoasters that weave through each other. Disneyland doesn't have a lot of expansion room either

A month ago, a "dead malls" video was recommended to me: the one across Beach Blvd from Knott's. My thought is a lot split: 2/3 of the existing mall parking on its west side sold to Cedar Fair, it now becomes Knott's parking, and an overhead walkway or two connects the new parking to the Knott's entrance. Existing parking can be used for more rides.
And, for the record, I am relieved that Cedar Fair did not shut down Ghost Town. It's unique to Knott's, preserves many 100+ year old buildings (and a steam train!), it's something that generations have enjoyed, and gives the park its distinct personality.

As someone who has annual passes to Knott's Berry Farm, I so agree that Knott's Berry Farm should expand onto the parking lot. The parking lot would still have spots that are a bit inconvient and make us go to another parking lot that is even more inconvient and further away from the Main Enterance. They also rarely open up the Western Enterance so that makes people have to walk all the way from the hotel parking, past the hotel, through the entire marketplace and after walking for 5-10 minutes, you finally get in the park. Compared to the 3 minutes I spend walking to Knott's Berry Farm from the Main Enterance, Knott's Berry Farm really needs to expand Knott's Berry Farm and it would help them get more rides that Knott's Berry Farm needs. Knott's Berry Farm has not had a new ride since Knott's Bear-y Tales: Return to the Fair which is just a reskin of Voyage to the Iron Reef and Knott's Berry Farm has not had a new roller coaster since 2018 with HangTime. Knott's Berry Farm really needs more land and the parking lot is the perfect place to get it and they will not have to pay for new land.

Knotts has plenty of land to expand. Parking lot at soak city including the lagoon is equal in size to KBF. Take the Disney approach by expanding fully into the parking areas around KBF hotel and incorporate the hotel into the theme park. Replace the parking via a structure built in the overflow lot at the western entrance. Western lot is also equal in size to KBF. With the expansion of KBF move all major coasters across the street to soak city parking lot and create a separate park that focuses on thrill rides. Allow KBF to focus on dark rides, shows, and family rides. Future expansion of the second gate can come via removal of soak city which doesn’t make sense so close to the ocean with weather that isn’t hot enough. Now KBF is a resort with 2 gates vs a regional theme park.

As someone who worked there the “Soak City” parking lot is actually the main parking lot for the park both soak city and Knotts share the parking lot during the summer time. But traditionally the “Soak City” parking lot is Knotts berry farms main parking lot the over flow lot is the south lot behind the Knotts Berry Farm hotel. And the employee parking lot is behind the park/ in front of the western park entrance. But as far as the potential expansion areas go I’d prefer the south lot to be taken out since that parking lot is hardly ever used except for Scary Farm nights and really busy summer days they could fit a lot of new theme park land there add a new GCI woodie or if they wanted too add the giga they’ve been talking about for the last two years and as far as adding additional parking for losing parking spots they can easily add a parking structure in the main parking lot in front of the park. Either way the park does in fact need more space especially with how busy it gets and on top of that it needs a coaster that can eat through very harsh lines on a consistent bases.

Build a tall, dense parking structure (could potentially have several subterranean levels) and expand the park. It’s expensive, but probably their best option. Or, take over the parking lot and work with local transit agencies to procure reliable, high frequency transit to the park.

    • @marvelescobedo6153

Ima have to agree with that. I mean what is knotts gonna do with an expansion once their park is full (probably already is or not idk) of rides from previous expansions. They can’t just do refurbs all the time and look at what Disney did. They turned the Disneyland parking lot into a second park and built parking structures. So in conclusion, knott’s should add a big Parking structure

It's the same problem my local park, Dorney Park, owned by Cedar Fair since July, 1992 has. They are landlocked with homes on two sides and protected land on one side, with woods, and a big parking lot bisected by a local road with a tunnel under it. They did buy some land near a highway interchange that was originally intended for a Vietnam War memorial, they had plans to expand into the main parking lot and build more parking on that land but nothing happened with that. They are building Iron Menace steel coaster for next year on land formerly occupied by Laser from 1986-2008, and Stinger 2012-2017. Both were used coasters, Laser came from Brazil but was built in Germany, and after it was dismantled at Dorney Park it went back to Germany as a traveling ride. Stinger came from California Great America as Invertigo and was scrapped after the 2017 season. It had reliability issues. They had to remove some Zephyr train track to build Iron Menace, but they will rebuild the track and the 1935 diesel train ride will return next year. They have a newly renovated haunt maze near the site of Iron Menace themed to a dilapidated factory. It started out as Scream Works in 2004, then Asylum, The Ward for a couple weeks then was retitled Urgent Scare, then Enigma two years, now Ghost in the Machine with a brand new theme, it's totally redone with a new facade and probably new interior.

So the thing about parking...the East Lot (which also houses Soak City) gets completely full during the summer and winter weekends to the point they even have to park people on the grass along La Palma. If they could build a structure closer to Soak City that would ease parking. North Lot is used during Halloween Haunt and also houses the stables for the horses (stagecoach, barn, etc). South Lot across from the KBF hotel is now their Preferred Parking area, which costs a bit more to get a spot there. The last one is Western Lot, where half of it is for the employees and the other half is either overflow or Haunt parking. For safety reasons they couldn't run any rides over busy Beach Blvd. One thing that could be done at this point is if Buena Park allowed it, close up part of Western Street between Crescent and La Palma and have Knott's expand onto the lot, possibly making a structure for employees as well. But there's the problem of things being too close to businesses near Western Lot. The back areas inside of the park are home to 4 mazes during Haunt along with storage, uniforms, offices and such, so they wouldn't sacrifice that land for an attraction. Another solution (though unrealistic) would be to stack the two rides on the boardwalk and get rid of the wild mouse style coaster to make way for something new.

Is the near housing also not a big problem there? Efteling and Phantasialand as Alton Towers are having trouble with their neighbours for noise complaints. So they are very limited in what they are allowed to construct. Efteling can only build indoor attractions with a height limit of the buildings of 25 meters near housing. In a lot of the areas they are not allowed to go above tree height (just like Alton Towers). Now they have a permit to build 3 rides up to 60 meters behind python in a small plot of land, but they still have to provide noise data to the neighbours. Phantasialand id even worse since their neighbours are trying to shut every possible way to expand down. The Neighbours of Walibi Belgium are even worse since they are trying to shut the operational permits for the park down for years. And did so in 2022 with succes. Walibi Belgium did not get an Operation permit for 2022 in court. So how do these kind of things work in the U.S.?

Mostly Cedar Fair parks? No. Disneyland and DCA have this problem. USF/IOA and USH have this problem. Magic Mountain is starting to have this problem. I’m not sure that Discovery Kingdom has that much room either. Sea World San Diego doesn’t have many more places that they could go. Overseas there are multiple parks with this problem, especially Blackpool.
Knott’s is actually in a better position than a lot of those places. If they would move things around and reconfigure their space, they would have a lot more room. Would be great if they could buy the Buena Park Mall which has struggled for decades and move some backstage or parking lot infrastructure here.

MM did and they will get more, at least 1 more before replacing old rides. At Knott's, everything is damn near butt up to each other. That's not the case at MM. MM is not short on space. Parks are not supposed to expand indefinitely.

    • @gregg5958
      @gregg5958 11 месяцев назад +1

@@RA-hx9uc LOL Wrong again. SFMM is short on space. West Coast Racers proves that. And the log ride was not a crappy ride. It was a great ride still missed by many people, and frankly needed considering how hot it is. And up until more recent years, the park was pretty much expanding outward. They weren’t removing much. Scream got added to their parking lot. Goliath was built over Colossus. X was built in unused area at the front of the park. Now they are having to take out rides to save on space. Because they are running out of it. Their actions before vs. now prove that. Sure they have some space on the hills to work with, but even that is going to require removal of other things.
Knott’s has room if they reconfigured and relocated their backstage space elsewhere. They don’t make good use of the land they have. But yeah if they don’t do anything they have a severe space problem. But I think they will make some major changes. They don’t seem ready to remove Xcelerator yet. The other plot they like to rotate coasters on has Hangtime which is still too new. They just remodeled Fiesta Village. So where else can they go? They are going to have to make some big changes. I see no other option.

Europa-Park in Germany is sort of a combo of a Disney & Universal-type theme park. In spite of it not being open year-round, it generates more annual attendance than KBF. The fans of coasters/spin-and-pukes probably don't generate as high a visitor count compared with fans of both thrills but also dark rides or themed experiences too. However, dark rides do cost way more to develop & maintain. But KBF competing with a Six-Flags-type (such as up in Valencia) or Cedar-Fair-coaster-type parks has diminishing returns. Since land is already limited in Buena Park, the acreage being further monopolized by coasters isn't too impressive. BTW, the new Universal park in Orlando will make the parks of Six Flags (including Magic Mountain) & Cedar Fair seem even more like yesterday's news. Or more Santa-Monica-Pier-ish, Coney-Island-ish.
