How neurodivergent people aren’t as dangerous as you think we are

This has such a long lasting and damaging effect! When you teach someone to judge, when you teach them to hate, when you teach them that certain people just have less value than others - you are teaching neurotypical kids to treat neurodivergent kids like crap, and you are teaching neurodivergent kids to hate themselves. And here’s the catch - you don’t know which kid you got, but the result of both of these is gross.
Stop teaching kids that we ate dangerous and bad people. Yea certain safetys need to be there, that’s obvious, but the characteristics that are so often picked out are just wrong.
🤨Why does it matter if a grown adult enjoys skateboarding? It’s great exercise!
🤨 why does it matter if someone enjoys juggling? What an interesting hobby!
🤨 why does it matter if someone has rainbow hair? It grows back!!
🤨 why does it matter if someone has tattoos? It’s just a picture.
Don’t teach kids to hate anyone, but especially not themselves! Nothing good ever comes from someone hating themself.

For me, it's unlearning habits that are actually harmful, like"look at me when I'm talking to you".

My coworkers keep thinking I'm not listening to them because I'm not looking at them. They keep "having to" call my name to make them look at them bc they think I'm not listening 🫠

My friends and I have grown up to be the people my parents warned me about. They are, and I am living my best life.

Also, as a general rule of thumb, children are very good at telling nice people and bad people apart. I spent a lot of my childhood being taught to tolerate bad people, to ignore the red flags I was seeing. Now, I'm trying to unlearn that thinking, it's not easy.

Tangent: where did you get your glasses? I love them! I find gold everywhere but rarely see bronze or brass colored ones.

But all of this stuff is more fun! 🎉 Why do they want us to stay away from fun!? Even my friends who are neurotypical LIKE ME sometimes because we go on fun, childlike adventures, or learn new skills. Or climb trees or jungle gyms. If you can play with your kids, why not just play by yourself or with your friends?
