When you need to detox!!
The more junk food dopamine you consume (doomscrolling, alcohol, pawn o graphy, etc) the higher your tolerance for dopamine becomes, meaning you need more and more and more to feel good!!
If you are finding nothing is making you feel good any more, you may have pushed that bar too high and need to reset it. (Check out the linked video for tips on how to do that).
Dopamine saturation is very closely linked to burnout. I’m not saying it’s the only reason for burnout, but it can definitely be a big contributing factor.
After a detox you will feel so much calmer. You will feel clearer. You will feel content to sit and read a book. Content to sit without your phone. Content to just be!

Yeah I learned about the citrus on the internet too. A bit supriced that I wasn't told either by the doctor or the pharmacy when I first got my meds, after all how will I be able to judge their effectiveness if I don't know if I screwed up by a dietary choice. 🙄 At least I know now and can make sure to not have those things to close to taking them. Makes morning drinks very boring though 😢

My partner was on medication growing up, and he very much felt the same. He says he doesn't remember half his childhood. It's been a serious discussion point for us as I'm starting to pursue treatment for my ADHD. I'm hesitant to try medication, but my regular coping strategies just aren't working anymore. I don't have experience yet, but part of our plan moving forward is to write down my concerns and how I'm feeling in a notebook so I can remember the questions I want to ask during my follow -ups.

I needed to play around for several years with doses and different meds, plus additional meds in the mix (for example, as a woman I needed to add hormonal supplements to make the ADHD meds even work right throughout my cycle). I ended up with dexamphetamine (similar to Adderal in the US, I think?). My final specialist (who has ADHD himself, and is specialised in women with ADHD and comorbidities) recommended it to me because he found it worked better for creative/associative thinkers. I need those connections between several thoughts to think and feel like myself, just one thought at a time feels so limiting and stifling and sterile. And this medication still allows those parallels and crossovers to happen, I just got more control over my executive functions So I no longer feel that paralysing urge to execute all those ideas right away, for example. It's easier to start and stop doing things now. To make choices about stuff that doesn't matter. To overthink less. Those kinds of issues are so much less a problem now. But my thoughts and feelings are my own. In contrast, I've found Ritalin reduces those rich tapestries of thoughts and feelings to a single thread. Which may be a relief to other people, but it made me feel like I wasn't myself. Dosage and interval are also very important. And tricky. And many specialists aren't aware of the need to experiment, and that it's necessary to make changes depending on stressful times, hot weather, other meds, hormones, etc. They just want to prescribe, build up to the "right" dose, and then never see you again. Many of them also seem unaware that too low of a dose and too high of a dose can have very similar effects, so a flat affect and worsening symptoms could actually mean the dosage is too high. Raising the dose because the meds aren't "working anymore" can actually make everything much much worse. So yes, flat affect can be a side effect. And it is important. And no, many specialists don't care. As long as we can go to school or work in the factories, we're not allowed to complain.

A quote I loved, but can't quite remember so will paraphrase: if they say you're too much, let them find people who are less. It's like drivers: people who drive slower are seen as slowpokes, people who drive faster are maniacs. Similarly, they see people as less vibrant than them as boring or dumb, and people who are more vibrant as too much and also dumb. These days, if I'm too much for people, I don't try to tone it down anymore. Or worse, tone myself down preemptively. Instead, I go and search for people who are more. More fun, more kind, more connected to themselves, more open to others.

0:33 I'll be the autistic kid disrupting the class with an "ummm... akshually" infodump: Only the rainbow in the dog photo got adjusted: the trees are still green! Incidentally the "dog" image (if it were properly color adjusted) is what (most) colorblind humans see. Certain primates (including humans) have a mutated second copy of the gene for yellow cones. It doesn't shift the wavelength response of the cones much, both copies basically still just code for mamalian yellow cones, but there's just enough difference between them that our brains can tell the difference between the response from the longer and shorter wavelength yellow cones and use that to get red/green information out of the yellow signal. Non-mammal vertebrates generally have four sets of cones at evenly spaced wavelengths, mammals lost two of these.

One of my life mottos is an answer to a question. It's how I made it through a lot of the hardest times in my life, including how I made it through 4 years in the US Marine Corps, as well as how I managed to convince myself to marry my wonderful husband even though I didn't want a new commitment or relationship. If the question someone is asking me in preparation for a thing, or if I'm asking myself in preparation for a thing, the question "Are you ready?" my answer will be a pensive, terrified, and BRAVE, "No. Let's do it anyway." And then I internally scream and cry and curse and at times externally throw a fit, but I do all that while still doing The Thing. It doesn't always work, but it works well enough that I've managed to accomplish things I would've otherwise never tried.

Okay, did my little research. "People who tried to pick up one sometimes had been amputated parts of their fingers." As a vegan I'd say fair. Watched two national geographic shorts, read on their site, great barrier rief site, german sites and am very impressed by them. Learned those rainbow coloured ones are called peacock mantis shrimp. Unfortunatly there are no plushys of them, just a rosered other mantis shrimp. But there is an exploding kittens version and some prints of them on stuff. And I made some first coincident word games with them like "holy crap, don't mess with the mantis crab" (as I sometimes switch into inner talks in english watching something in english and then I also switch in something like a TV-show inspired character and how they would talk in my imagination. This was a male teenager of cause. Had at first a really funny one which I forgot of cause. When I will remember it I'll come back. AHH, it was something with piss, as they are also called piss crabs, as they urinate when cooked (😢). So I guess it was something like "Holy crap, this shrimp was pissed"😮 after I saw the attacs on the octopus. Before reading the piss-crab thing. Edit: Sorry, on etsy there are wonderful plushys AND crochet patterns and - PRIDE PRAWNS inspired by them🏳️‍🌈😍. How cute is that🤩 Peacock mantis shrimp, You have a solid fan base! For real!! The game of tones! I developed retorts or my own word games quite young. It helped me quite a bit to deflect the BS. "I was bored looking so basic like (looks person up and down) people." Yes. I could be a jerk, and as a kid and young adult was more than happy to return peoples energy. Now, I will purposefully respond to their spoken word and ignore their tone. I will go into full on ADHD hyper fixation sharing mode and just release all of my glee and excitement and offer my hairstylist etc. This works for me bc my personality. Won't work for others.
