    classic STYX in between.

Exactly! In only 3 mins this songs does a lot. I also have to say many bands from the 70s that release music today always seem overproduced but this song surprised me.

    • @misterninetyseven2898
      @misterninetyseven2898 3 года назад

Indeed. On the one hand I think the song is way too short. On the other hand, I can't help but be impressed with how much material was jammed into 3.5 minutes. That takes serious talent.

And I thought that only Yes and Rush could put out excellent progressive music after 40+ years‼️
And Styx wasn't originally a prog outfit.
    Well they have crossed over❗

    • @misterninetyseven2898
      @misterninetyseven2898 3 года назад +2

Well, the Wooden Nickel years had some significant prog elements - see Movement for the Common Man from the band's debut album. Even some of their later albums (Pieces of Eight, Paradise Theater, etc) are progressive in part. Songs like COTC are indeed a quantum leap into prog territory.

    • @ancientveritas481
      @ancientveritas481 3 года назад +1

@@misterninetyseven2898 You are correct about the Wooden Nickel collection.
I thought that Styx was "dancing to the beat of a different drummer" when they put out those songs; though I never even became aware of the collection until decades later.
As for myself; I'm not a fan of Paradise Theater. And I believe that Tommy Shaw saw that album as a reason to give DeYoung his walking papers❗Afterwords; Styx remained a Rock Outfit and Dennis DeYoung went on to write show tunes and other assorted Buble gum!
But some people like that stuff❗
That does not mean that DeYoung is not a great musician! He just wanted a different sound from that of Tommy Shaw and James Young.
Though I did not hear music from the Wooden Nickel collection until much later. My first exposure to Styx was 'The Grand Illusion' album.
I think that 'Lady' was the only song that I heard on the radio back in the 70's from the Wooden Nickel collection. It was just a perfect song for that time‼️
Before I go research: was 'Fanfare for the common Man' written by Styx?
Because Emerson Lake and Palmer does a kick ass rendition of that song!
So; I've Googled that title and found that American composer Aaron Copeland wrote it❗ It was written in 1942 for the Cinncinnati Symphony Orchestra.

Met you and Tommy Shaw about 18 years ago. Styx was opening for REO Speedwagon and Def Lepperd. Styx went on first but was by far the best band. I was part of the local crew doing load in and stage call. Ran into you guys backstage. Tommy signed my backstage pass. Well being in that business has its drawback. I was in full blown addiction. All my guitar picks backstage passes drumsticks and local crew shirts were in a warehouse since i was bouncing from couch to couch and didn't really have a home. I did not pay my warehouse bill and it went to auction. Now almost 11 years clean and sober. I would give anything to have that pass back. Out of everything. It was my favorite. At least i have the memories. Thanks to you both for stopping and talking to me. Signing my pass and being a true rock god.

Death, it's one of the biggest events that will ever take place in your life. We face death everyday, conscious or unconsciously of it; death lurks around every corner of our life. Like a lion waiting to catch its prey, death comes for us all in many shapes and form; seemingly there is no one who can escape from the jaws of death.
But did you know there is a reason why we die? The idea of death you're familiar with is only the tip of the iceberg. See we die because we've sinned against God. Death according to the bible is wages " for the wages of sin is death " (Romans 6:23).
Because man sinned against God, we live in a fallen world, it was once perfect, but now in ruins. Now that sin exists, God is coming to judge the world In righteousness. "It's appointed a man once to die and after this judgement" (Hebrews 9:27) The standard he'll judge you by is the 10 commandments, God's moral law.
He's so serious about sin that he gave anyone who sins the death sentence, the bible says you've earned it through sinning against God and God pays you in death. each time you sin you build up his wrath. “The soul who sins shall die.” (Ezekiel 18:4) The punishment is the eternal fires of Hell " Where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth" (Matthew 13:42)
You will have to face God on Judgement Day.
Will you go to Heaven or Hell?
    Here’s a quick test:
1.You shall have no other gods before Me. (Have you always loved God above all else?)
2.You shall not make yourself an idol. (Have you made a god in your mind that you're more comfortable with, a god to suit yourself?)
3.You shall not take God's name in vain. (Have you ever used God's holy Name as a cuss word?)
4.Remember the Sabbath Day, to keep it holy.
    5.Honor your father and mother.
    6. You shall not murder. (God considers hatred to be as murder, 1 John 3:15).
    7. You shall not commit adultery. ("Whoever looks upon a woman to lust after her has committed adultery with her already in his heart" Matthew 5:27-28; this also includes sex before marriage).
    8. You shall not steal. (Have you ever stolen anything? the value of the item is irrelevant).
    9. You shall not lie. (Have you lied even once? Including answering these questions).
    10. You shall not covet. (Have you ever jealously desired what belongs to others?)
James 2:10 says, “the person who keeps all of the laws except one is as guilty as a person who has broken all of God’s laws.”
The Bible says that God will punish all murderers, rapists, thieves, liars, adulterers, etc. He will even judge our words and thoughts.
If you have done any of those things, God sees you as guilty of breaking His law and the Bible warns that the guilty will end up in Hell. Will YOU be guilty on Judgement Day?
"For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." (Romans 6:23)
God sent His Son to suffer and die on the cross. Jesus took the punishment upon Himself and defeated death on the cross; not because your Good but because God is rich in mercy.
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16)
Jesus rose from the dead and defeated death. Repent (turn from sin) today and trust in Jesus and God will grant you everlasting life.
Then, Read the Bible and obey what you read.
    Pray something like this:
"Dear God, today I turn away from all of my sins (name them). This day I put my trust in Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior. He is the only way for me to be saved. He is 'The way, the truth, and the life.'" Please forgive me, change my heart, and grant me Your gift of everlasting life. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen."

I encourage you to read the whole Text because it's valuable information concerning your life, also there is 24 hours in a day so there is plenty of time to read.
Thanks for reading, but please consider this:
God gave you a conscience to know right from wrong so therefore he will judge your thought life, your every motives and even your words.
"But I tell you that for every careless word that people speak, they shall give an accounting for it in the day of judgement. For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned."(Matthew 12:36-37)
God will bring every work into judgement, including every secret thing, whether good or evil" (Ecclesiastes 12:14)
If you were to die in your sins and God gave you justice for breaking his law. You have his promise that he'll send you to Hell; God's prison without parole.
"all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone," (Revelation 21:8)
No thieves, blasphemers( Taking God's in vain is called blasphemy, punishable by death in the old testament and God holds no one guiltless who takes his name in vain), Adulterers, murderers will enter the kingdom of Heaven.
You either believe or reject the free gift of God that is in Jesus Christ. If you reject Jesus you'll be damned for hell. "You will perish unless you repent of yours sins and turn to God." (Luke 13:3) I am the way, the truth, and the life. no one comes to the father except through me (John 14:6)
I encourage you to strongly think about what you've read, Why would I be telling you all this if it wasn't true? Examine my motives, why would some strange person come into your comment section and tell you such harsh words? I'm not here to ask you for money nor am I asking you to get religious, I'm telling you to get right with God because I love you and care about where you will end up when you die. I'm so concerned about your eternal welfare, that I was fully prepared to risks offending you.
I'll ask you this: Would you consider selling your eye for a million dollars? Would you sell both for 10 million dollars? No one in his right mind would our eyes are precious to us. But Jesus said this:
"If your right eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and cast it from you ; for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish, than for your whole body to be cast into hell."Matthew 5:29
If our eyes are that precious to us. How much more then is our eternal soul worth?
Listen to the fear you may have after reading this, you may think the fear you have is bad but it's actually your friend and , because it's trying to persevere you from ending up in Hell.
“It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.”
      Hebrews 10:31
"And by the fear of the LORD one departs from evil."
      Proverbs 16:6
Remember what you need to do is
Repent (turn from sin) today and trust in Jesus and God will grant you everlasting life; Then, Read the Bible and obey what you read.

Todd Sucherman a drummer of skill and precision to the point his traits remind me of the late GREAT Jeff Porcaro. Wish I could say the same about this tribute band: STYX and the music of Dennis DeYoung. Don’t care for this song at all....it’s obvious they were trying to emulate an early DeYoung penned STYX tune. Styx without Dennis DeYoung is Journey without Steve Perry.

I love DDY but you are 100% wrong. Go listen to the mission. A great album. You know I’m so sick and tired of all this choosing sides crap. I love styx, I love it all and I love Dennis DeYoung and I refuse to choose sides I can enjoy it all.

@@richardthorne2804 You’re entitled to your erroneous opinion Sir; but the facts do not lie. You can listen and enjoy your STYX and the music of Dennis DeYoung tribute band, not me! I encourage you to respond with Larry Gowan’s resumé. I’d love to compare it to this: The seven DeYoung penned-and-performed top 10 Billboard hits, in order of their peak chart placement are:
"Babe", the band's only Billboard Hot 100 #1 hit to date. Also hit #1 on Radio and Records chart.
      "Mr. Roboto" (#3 Billboard, #3 R & R)
      "Show Me the Way" (#3 Billboard, #7 R & R)
      "The Best of Times" (#3 and #1 R & R)
      "Don't Let It End" (#6 Billboard, #3 R & R)
      "Lady", the band's 1973 breakthrough hit (#6 in March 1975 Billboard and #7 R & R)
      "Come Sail Away" (#8 Billboard, #9 R & R)
A self-taught keyboardist, DeYoung quickly became one of the most notable keyboard players in rock.

@@lastchance7463 Music, like any art, is subjective, my friend! And there's more to a musician than the number of Billboard hits! Dennis and Larry are different people with different backgrounds and signatures. Let us continue to enjoy the modern lineup of Styx with The Mission as we look forward to Crash of the Crown, and I hope you enjoyed 26 East Volume 1, and look forward to 26 East Volume 2! :)
