Morbid Angel has satanic lyrics, and the other 3 bands don't. Many people in death metal heap praise on Trey Azagthoth's fretboard dexterity. I just never got into Morbid Angel. Just not my thing.

Agreed, the groovy stuff is insane. That being said, all of the above bands also have some tremolo wank songs, as that was a very new thing they all had to try out. They all have hella groovy riffs too tho

This video was filled to the brim with creative riffs. A lot of death metal is exactly not that. Every single one of these bands has some half asked riffs, and 3/4 of em are tremolo wankery, as that was popular as fuck in the early death metal scene. They later on wrote great riffs. To me, the bad death riffs are on TSOP. That album has some of the greatest and worst songs death has ever made

Death. No doubt. The solo and outro on Moment of Clarity is fanfuckingtastic. Just being completely honest, Chuck was on a level of his own compared to the competition.. even further, he's one of the GOATs in metal guitar in general.

Obituary is by far my favorite band to play along with. Death is just as fun, but a little more challenging. Cannibal Corpse is very difficult for me to keep up with. And I don't even know half of what Morbid Angel is playing. :( Oh well, thanks for the amazing video. It's a real treat! :)

I honestly love them all equally. I can't see artists like football teams where one team is number one and another one is number three. Every band has it's own unique thing going on. And they evolve, they change line ups, they change producers..I love DEATH for being technical and at the same time i love Obituary for being kind of groovy.

Very fun video! A+++ I Listened to all these bands in high school in the early 90's. I'm now 48 with short hair, a long white beard and I still listen to these bands and still think they are all Bad Ass! Hell to yeah. I still enjoy watching Little House on the Prairie too. lol

Covenant had such a dark vibe. It's my favorite death metal álbum. Really dark atmosphere.

I think death won but if Bolt Thrower was in this it would dominate every single death metal band. Bolt Thrower has the best riffs in all of death metal hands down

great video man, for me the winners will always be CC, they're my favorites, especially from "gallery of suicide" to "kill", that era is full of good riffs, and they got more technical in general, pat and jack were the perfect guitar duo in my opinion. I think many think that they're just brutality without much sense, but they really have complicated riffs, and evolution.
MA's first two albums are amazing, but from then on it's not my thing. They are my second favorite anyway, the first riff in "maze of torment" is one of my favorites ever.
as for Death, I can only enjoy SBG and some SH songs. I hate Chuck's vocals on the latest albums tbh, and I like the dark or brutal style more so I can't get into the melodies or anything, anyway SBG is fucking a masterpiece.

Honestly think death compares more to megadeth than metallica due to their progressive writing style. Corpse compares more to metallica. Cannibal corpse really is the metallica of death metal.
Honestly, it's hard to beat Obituary in terms of riffs. Death has the melody, but Slowly we rot has the groooooove. My favorite by far.
