I’ve slowly been turning into a huge fan of the Mofo RC gear. This is awesome that you don’t need to buy the entire axle kit to do this. I might just have to grab this set to bolt onto my buggy
The design to keep the C hubs is interesting, but with the pivot being so far offset from the wheels it looks odd with how much the wheels move forward/back when steering. Think I prefer the tighter design the FCX24 or TrailHunter have. I'm particularly liking the design on the T Hunter right now, great amount of steering lock!
Hey Man! love your channel! Keep up the great work. I recently started my own RC Channel. Just picked up a Traxxas Hoss and a Traxxas TRX 4 Crawler to add to the collection! Happy Bashing!
@@CapeCrawlers Ayyy thanks! got my first video up today with the new Hoss. And got the TRX4 out of the box. TAking it out tomorrow to my local crawler track for some fun!
I still run mine to this day!.I bought mine first day release when he uploaded it on his site.. buttt at the time they weren’t this cheap damnn mmaannn. Haha.
@Cape Crawlers I sent MofoRC asking for this a week or so ago. Think you could also make the suggestion? Hopefully, it will be moved up in priority if he sees there is the demand for it.
When I build my four wheel steer rig I did not expect the uphill and climbing loss I would take. Unfortunately I had to buy more weights for the front but I find it well worth it for that turning radius. I also like snaggletooth with the portals but I think there unneeded if you got big wheel.
The servo in the back is a big hit to the climbing ability. I think you’re right that I may be better putting some smaller, wider tires on this to best utilize the portals
Great Video. any plans to compare this build with deadbolt comp build ? it would be great to see two construction approaches on your track. and of course your opinions
And really good price if I had to pick one I'd say the Muse is a lot nicer goes on without any hitches all the screws go and no problem with threads and they have a cv upgrade for the front
I recently got into RC Crawling with the SCX24 Deadbolt. I have modded some parts and not when I drive forward and turn, the car is lurching forward. Any hints would be greatly appreciated!
I have these portals from RCAWD, but I bought the whole axles. After running them on my MT24, I'm not too impressed. They have a tendency to cause the steering to get stuck, which killed 3 servos in my rig. I'm going back to a straight axle as soon as I can afford the parts. Going to cost me around 150 to get it back up and running. With all that said if you're wanting to have a monster truck, don't go the portal route like I tried. Maybe they are good for crawler but not for a monster truck.
hmmm, very interesting upgrade. Initially I would have thought the weight of them being so low would counter the increased ride height but I guess not based on the footage. They're a very good design though they look a lot cleaner and give a wider+higher ground clearance than portals with C-Hubs. I guess these would be ideal for a course that favors ground clearance rather than steep climbs, either way very well worth the price! On a side note did you ever decide to move forward with a Discord? I'm not big on Discord but I am more inclined to use that than FB. It would be cool to chit chat with people that also love this channel! Your channel is growing fast, better to start early if you feel this is inevitable for the brand growth! Who knows, maybe we'll see some Cape Crawler products someday 😉
A course that favors ground clearance and wide gates! I’ll look into the discord. I haven’t started one yet, but you are right that I should jump on it now. I’m planning a website and merch launch by spring 👍🏻
Holy scrub radius, Batman! With the 4ws is there an extra impact of the tires moving forward and backward as you steer? With my 4ws on FCX24 axles I still get some of the rocks I use stuck between the wheels and make the servos sad.
I came here just to see if you would put those O-rings in the right spot. I made the mistake and frustration kicked in after trying to figure out why my dog bones kept binding. Finally Nick came through and helped me out.
Hey! i was wondering where you got the second set of brass knuckles that you have on the back? my mofo portal set only came with 1 set and im trying to put them on my ax24. thanks for the very instructional videos!!!
Thanks for watching! Mofo has an optional 4WS kit with the portals. Its a ~$20 additional charge but you get the extra knuckles in addition to the portal kit.
Having trouble with my mofo portals. Brock front axle shaft cuz of binding when I turn. I've tried flipping the knuckles but they just became more crooked.
I had to take mine apart and pull the dog bones back from the portals. They had gotten wedged there, too close to the knuckle, and were binding hard. Luckily they've been okay since then, but I had serious issues initially as well
Does the Injora setup use dog bones? I can't remember. The portals will fit those axle housings, but they only work with a dogbone axle setup. If they are CV style axle shafts, the kit wont work.
You got that kit for $50 that ain’t bad compared to real brands but I got front and rear portal, axles, brass and steering links. Come with it for 57 bucks.
Do you have a recommendation for axles?? I have thr Mofo portals and love them, only problem is, I keep snapping axles. (Probably because I'm 3s, lol).
I just bought some Yeah Racing. I'll post back up in a while telling you if they were any better. I'm thinking where it meets the portal axles is binding and then snapping in the typical spot. Possibly polishing the Mofo part where the pins make contact could save things. Where are you breaking yours?
@CapeCrawlers Nevermind. Put one battery though it and broke the Yeah Racing left axle. I was actually even going easy on it too. I'm actually in disbelief.....
@@jeffoh5787 I am breaking them in the exact same spot. I found I had to push the dog bone in, then back it out. There seems to be an optimal “seat” for the connection. To be determine if they hold up. I’m hoping to get some run time on them this weekend
@CapeCrawlers So, I am having really bad binding where the dog bone seats. I've tried multiple positions and nothing seems to work for me. I get them to seat, but as soon as I steer it to the left or right, part of the dog bone slips out and either breaks the axle, bends the cup all out of whack, or binds severely. I don't see how I'm going to be able to run these. I actually just installed iniora aluminum axle housings because the dogbone unseated and bound up so badly that it ripped the knuckle mounting screw right out of the stock axle housing..... it almost seems to me that the dogbones aren't seating deep enough into the cup. Not sure if my set have different tolerances or what.
@@CapeCrawlers I think it would be interesting. If you can find some reverse wheels You could tuck them in and cover the portals with them so they won’t hang up on stuff
Hey Adam! Question, when you add the rear portal kit to the V2 portal kit do you still get the solid rear kit? So is it a full rear kit with another set of knuckles, etc included? So if I want to swap from steer axle to solid I have that option?
Yes. If you get the rear steer kit you get the full conventional portal kit plus the extra knuckles for the 4WS setup. But you have to buy both the portal kit and the extra 4WS add on.
He has mentioned in previous videos that it is about 400-500 for a fully upgraded set up or at least one that has all the expensive parts and chassis but realistically you can build one for 300 and be just as good. God bless!
do you have the stock plastic axle housings with them? I bought them and tried them on the treal front and had to do the stock rear. The treal rear has vertical screws that hold the bearings in place and they just didnt work with the treal front. It seemed to tow in the front like crazy too. Just wondering if they are built around the stock plastic axles to make them work properly. Also need to find somewhere that has stock dogbones since all the after market ones are junk
Oh my gosh. You're on a roll 🔥🔥 great build! Do you know sleep? 🤣 Anyhow I'd really appreciate if you could respond to my email. I'm holding off a purchase to get that axial from you 🤩🤩🤩 appreciate it 🔥🔥
WARNING, Do not use Yeah Racing dogbones! I can confirm that thr pins on the Yeah Racing dogbones is much shorter than the stock ones. If you use them, they will slip out and bind when turning and you will either snap the dogbone, or distort the hell out of the Mofo cups. Ask me how I know.

When it comes to the kits the portal axles stick with r c all-wheel drive and mues two of the best fitting kits that I have found
This is wild, I can’t go a single week without new parts for these rigs coming out the support for scx24 is so nuts lol.

I do dig the trail hunter/FMS portals. They’ve done a great job with those!
Looks like MOFO isn’t selling this kit anymore. Do you know anyone that is? Would love to try this kit out.
I think after a number of people experienced binding issues he stopped selling them. I think Meus racing may offer a similar kit

So with RCAWD you can run CVD axles and with these dogbone only?
Yes that’s right. The rcawd come with CVD’s standard now.
You need to do a video of the Mofo rc portals and the Rcawd portals!
now we need a portal kit for the trx4m
Yes we do!
Adam, I just ordered some wheels and a motor from injora, and do you know how long it takes for them to arrive?

Can I use the brushless motor that you put on the trx4m without changing the esc
