This is from someone who lived these days. The times were not carefree as they were in the fifties. Lots of stuff going on with Vietnam etc, but the music helped us all get through. I look at this now and remember how special it really was. To be so young and have so much life in you that you just couldn't sit still. You had to get up and dance. And the way it felt when you danced! This video reflects that mood so well. Thanks for bringing a little taste of it back.

Wish we could keep on dancing and hearing songs like this in 2016! No one could sit this song out at the dances I went to in 1965 when I was a sophomore at KGHS. My sister had the old 45 rpm record and I would sneak it on to my turntable when she was out of the house! One of the songs we used to practice dancing to in our room before going to the sock hops after the football and basketball games.

This video fascinates me. Of course, I love this song, but the format of the dance set really interests me. There are the go-go dancers in front, dancing in sync with each other, and in what appears to be matching outfits. Then the folks behind the band are dancing their own individual style. Then, there are these little groups of people just randomly dancing away! I love it. 😆❤️!!

    Origin,Memphis,Tennessee, U.S. MGM Records
"Keep on Dancing" is a rock song written by Allen A. Jones and Willie David Young, originally performed by the Avantis on Argo Records in 1963, and covered by The Gentrys in 1965.The seven-member group of Treadwell High School (Memphis, Tennessee), alumni included Bruce Bowles (vocals), Bobby Fisher (saxophone, keyboards), Jimmy Hart (vocals), Jimmy Johnson (trumpet), Pat Neal (bass guitar), Larry Raspberry (guitar, lead vocalist), and drummer Larry Wall (replaced by Rob Straube)[1] and also with another member, Larry Butler (keyboards). The youths formed the Gentrys in May 1963 as a rock 'n' roll group for local dances, and were very successful playing for high school dates. In September 1964 they won third place in the Mid-South Fair Talent Competition and auditioned for the Ted Mack Amateur Hour. They soon became the most popular teenage band in the mid-South and in 1964 won the Memphis Battle of the Bands. In December 1964 the group was given a contract by local record label Youngstown Records, and made their first record of "Sometimes", which was very popular locally in early 1965

They all graduated from my High School. Treadwell High School in Memphis, TN. All except Pat Neal the bass player, he was about 21 when they got together. Out of all the garage bands from memphis at that time Larry was probably the most talented.
They graduated high school in 1965, a year after this hit.

This is a great song, and sounds better than all modern music 🎵🎶 for sure. I'm a 90s baby 2000s kid and I love music from the 50s, 60s, 70s better than the music that I grew up with. Although I do like some 90s songs and 2000 songs I like the old school music better.

My sister and I got a tape machine with this song on it when we were kids. We always thought they were saying "Dancing in a frying pan". Take a listen!

LOL.....It reminds me of those Friday night school dances and the go-go girls were dancing on the stage. It was such an exciting time to be young. I was also 12-13 when that song came out.
