アップテンポなのにどこか落ち着く、、不思議で惹き込まれる1曲
この曲はこんな早く弾けない、、、、、すごい
Sensational composing and unbelievably brilliant playing. What a combination.
The way she plays the intro is so badass
Gran Turismo 5 V2 intro. Thanks kaz for introducing kapustin to us motorsports fans. ;)
This exact recording was used for Gran Turismo 5 Spec 2's opening movie. Fucking amazing. She shreds that piano.
the best version of this little masterpiece!!!
This is so metal. I love it.
I couldn't help to stand on my feet when I listen to this, and also clapped at the end!!
This lady is so amazing!!
How playing this difficult music ,so lightly and freely, what she is !
First of all, I just wanted to say that this is fantastic and she did a great job. That said, all of the classical pianists performing Kapustin are lacking the emphasis on rhythms, especially the syncopations. If you listen to Kapustin's original recordings, they're groovy as hell. It's jazz!
Don't trust the sheet music!!
+bledredwine First of all, it is classical music and form (20th century classical music) with some blues improvisations.
these are very standard jazz chord progressions with a funk influenced bass line theo. When you change the chords in this way it's no longer classical, as per the definition. It certainly has classical influences, but there are much stronger jazz influences at play here.
She's also playing it far too fast that the original rhythm and polyphony kinda disappears and it's a bit of a letdown on that note. Amazing skill amd dexterity though!
Yeah it has zero rhythm going for it.
A lot of people claim that this is "too fast" for this piece... I personally think that the speed quite compliments the syncopated and rhythmic nature of the piece, and that, if it were to be played any slower, it would not have the same driving effect that it does in this version. So long as a piece is played with complete control and precision, and that the interpretation doesn't lose musicality and dynamic expression (which I don't find happening here), I really don't see a problem with playing a piece "faster" than it should be.
If you think this is played too fast have a listen to Yeol Eum Son's performance of no.8 lol.
I like this performance a lot, love it this fast, but also think Kapustin can't be beaten on his own recording which I own. It's the jazz side of the music you hear more with him, the jazz nuances etc.
+Mark Fowler And what is jazz without classical music? A lot of jazz music is clearly based on classical music. Kapustin was classical composer with some blues pentatonic improvisations.
Which "jazz nuances" ? Kapustin interpretation is so monotonous and monochronus ! He is the genious composer of those marvel but clearly these sort of pianists surpass him in the rendition. Because classical pianistes are so used to multiple differences in the sounds to shape momentum and eloquence out of the notes...
I completely agree with Kiarindia. This performance here is better than Kasputin himself, and agree that Kasputin is a great composer considering he is a classical musician, but even the very best classical piano players struggle with rhythms that even the most amateur jazz pianists can play without thinking.
This tempo is perfect for highlighting a short toccata with a rhythm in perpetual motion that is fundamental to similar works. This is not a ballade or sonata.
This in turn allows sections like 0:44 and the left hand 1:00 to 1:05 and then from 1:05 to around 1:15 to have any meaning whatsoever. They would pointless without a fast and clear pulse to force the rhythm into the centre. There are certainly opportunities to be more expressive such as 1:48 to 1:50 that can use a slower tempo
I would also argue that classical musicians could do with picking up the pace a little in their solo compositions to reflect the faster tempo heard today; utilising pop as an influence instead of clinging to old interpretations to convey the same message
Kiarinadia sorry a bit late to the party, but I do have to disagree, I don't have the vocabulary to describe the details, but the guy up there is correct. Classical pianists, especially those who have been doing classical materials their whole lives simply cannot reproduce the "sound" that jazz musicians can make, probably the subtle shifts in rhythm, or usage of pedal. I would personally argue that it is almost a completely separate realm in music than classical, and it takes years of training and listening to grasp it's details.
I think the classical pianists here are being a wee bit over-defensive of classical pianists :P The idea that performers take the pieces to new heights beyond what the composer themselves reach is extremely classical (how else can non-composing performers justify their existence???), and I don't think it necessarily applies here. Perhaps so with Rach and Chopin...and even that's debatable...
Having said that, her performance is outstanding. Not as groovy as Kapustin's, but outstanding nonetheless.
I love this piece and i love the way this girl plays it.
I like how she (intentionally?) played an F flat instead of F sharp during the descending part (from 0:51-0:52). That tiny change made it sound much more intense and sophisticated, which compliments her aggressive yet elegant playing style!
Oooppps, a russian composer writing the best improvisational jazz music I've ever heard on piano.
He is Ukrainian technically, and there is no improvisation, it is all carefully composed.
I know it is carefully composed, that was I meant when I wrote "writing", but Ukrainian was news :)
He was born in the Ukrainian Soviet Republic, actually in one of the towns that are now in the state of war. But as all big soviet musicians he studied in Moscow. Dunno why english wiki does not mention the fact.
OMG!!!!! Shan Shan is perfect, Kapustin is a genius!
Thank you soooo much for not playing this as fast as possible! Fast enough to be AWESOME and slow enough to here musical ideas! BRAVO
INNDEEEEDDD!!!! Its so fast yet so clean!!!!! with all the dynamics still in place...I tell you if you can get the job done i will not blame you for your choices. But if its too hot stay out of the kitchen.......THIS ONE IS ON FIRE!!!!!!
素晴らしいです!かっこいい。
I love it! It's not played too fast. I can feel the groove with her playing.
You're right. When I hearded it from the st time I was wondering who composed this brilliant piece. Kapustin was a genius!!!
Fantastic playing in every way!!!!!!!!!
Remarkable, playing beautifully, Beautiful gilrl playing remarkably. Stunning.
She's amazing...
I really love this!! Im 14 years old and I wanna be just like her!!!! Ive been playing the piano for 9 years and i love it to death. She's amazing, I admire her.
interesting reading these kind of comments years and years later.... SO. did you reach her level yet lmao
Louis Claudel true lol
So appropriate, "Sun" is in her name, in herself and in her playing!!! Wow! Gotta get that CD.
I have to say it again: Shan-Shan is absolutely great here, playing great music!
this is IMOSSIBLE!!!
Best composition ever
Resanother marvelous Kapustin. He's my new best favorite composer. Great performance, tooQpond to this video...
Really fast but amazing.Although it played very fast, i would prefer this version rather than the other versions on RUclips.(Amazing hair by the way)
niesamowita kompozycja, wykonanie wspaniale, dzikie, piekne
@nostromissimo completely agree with everything you say; also she looks stunning playing it.
I don't know how anyone can say anything bad about this. It is rhythmic, has urgency, a good sense of tone and she knows the difference between melody and accompaniment. Kapustin's music is Jazz-like, but it's not Jazz. Kapustin's own interpretations don't swing, as his op 40 n7 recording proves. Don't treat this music as Jazz. Interpret his music any way you want to. Just treat it as good music whatever bracket you think it belongs in.
That last scene has just made my week
Superb! Kaputsins music needs to be heard more often.
I see your comments on so many videos I watch. I see you have great taste. Virtuoso pianism is pretty mind-blowing isn't it?
@@Azian2DaMax Yes. I am now 81 yrs but when I was a boy practised 10 hrs a day. Of particular interest are 2 brilliant young Russians named Alexander Malofeev and Ivan Bessonov. They were both born with the gift of music and will become keyboard giants.
There's just so much energy in this. Wow.
Did anyone know this was featured as one of the songs on Gran Turismo?
BlakKyz in GT5
its the reason I'm here again. Gotta get the Kapustin Fix once in a while lol.
lady, you've got chops. Well done - enjoyed your playing.
Lively, passionate & energic! 👍
She is inside the music. I’ll never play again. It’s ok.
Stunning.
1) this is absolutely brilliant, I love it
2) what a beautiful woman
Really great - both pianist and composer!
Very nice indeed, It took a lot of work to get that piece up to that speed.
I tried it long ago as a student before the piece was well known, I knew I would
be forever triying to build that speed, and maybe not be happy with it.
She might appear a bit conceited, probably she was happy having payed it
all that well. Playing a piece that difficult all the way through well is an acheivment!!!
I don't think she looks conceited at all!! If I could play a piece like that I'd be pretty damn well proud of myself, and I will learn it someday. She's amazing, period. Fricking robotic hands. Favorited
I love it!
MERAVIGLIOSA!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This composition can be heard in the new Spec 2 intro movie for Gran Turismo 5.
Brilliant performance
oh.. what a music playing !!
Yes, it is.
Stunning!
Fantastic !!!!!
Great playing of a great piece!
The best of the lot. Bravo!
simply amazing
Yeah, it's correct, like Agionz says. Kapustin puts the accents in places to throw people off the beat intentionally. It's a pretty nice effect.
never a dull moment
awesome performance!
Um prazer ouvir Shan-shan Sun tocando Kapustin. Adoro os dois.
thats why we're all here
It's amazing!
" You think perhaps to produce something like this requires incredible amount of foreign forbidden tactile inspiration? "(about kapustin)
Amazing!
Amazing! nice music!
bravo❤❤❤
Shan Shan plays it so fast...it's impressive.
Anyway; If you want to see a slightly different interpretation of Kapustin's Toccatina, please check out my new channel (Joshua Creek), or just search 'Joshua Creek Kapustin.' I'm a pianist from Sydney, Australia. I'd love to know what you think!
It has taken me a month to learn eight measures! If she is conceited (which I doubt) she has earned the right to be. Listen to her play Opus 40 #8.
great! talented!
Nice - you go girl!
at 2:04, I started laughing so hard, I was like "what the heck was that?" (it reminded me of the "Whip your hair" song, hehe)
besides that part, I liked her playing! :)
Shan-shan Sun plays Kapustin and Stenway take-off !
Gran Turismo 5 ... exactly
Maravilhosa!!!!!!!!!!!!!
1番上手❣️
IN-SANEE!!
When Shan-Shan Sun plays Kapustin Stenway take off...
Wow!
must be a very exhausting piece to play :o
My head just exploded
@Lstyle1703 That's pretty common in jazz works, but it was awesome nonetheless.
Quand Shan-shan Sun plays Kapustin Stenway take off...
Bravissima!!! :D
Holy....God..Damn...Hell...Well...fucking amazing.
nice stuff!
A little fast, but the clarity of hr playing makes it work!
次元が違う!!!
Holy Perogies she's good!!!
@jennifer86010 Do you have to be a piano player to enjoy it? Nor do I play the piano, neither any other classical instrument. However Kapustin is my most favorite alive composer. ;)
nice
damn girl!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just comparing it to other performances of this piece, by Hamelin, Kapustin, and others. :) Obviously I'm nowhere near as good as them, or the player in this video, but hey, I can still compare them, can't I? :P
*is a genious
holy mother of fast fingers
@cyril0697
it's not impossible to play it. it's impossible to play it LIKE THIS!!!
супер! :)
@radiokid2 What do you mean sorry... but I'm really interested in your view!!!
