  • Pragya Tank shares a personal story of she dealt with schizophrenia in her family. From her experience and learning she dwells on the societal changes necessary to ensure a more humane environment for people with mental health problems. Trying to create a positive impact on the society, Pragya is currently
working as a Fellow with the Wellness Center of Vidya Bhawan which takes care of psychological well-being of it's students and staff. She believes in the theory of social learning and hence, wants to unfurl the deeper understanding of empathy through her actions while working with children. This being one of the reasons for choosing psychology for graduation, the other one was trying to understand and evaluate different reactions to various human behaviours. Her interest in psychology grew further when she witnessed Schizophrenia closely which taught her the value of empathy, perseverance and grit. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

I hope your father comes out from it as soon as possible, Rajesh. Keep yourself hydrated with taking out time for yourself everyday, hang out or talk to ones who are there for you, listen to your father, make sure he understands that you understand him. I know things are hard, but it doesn't define our entire life, remember that. :)

My dad is also suffering from schizophrenia for the last 14 years . He thinks he is chosen by god for a special purpose. According to him god talks to him. His way of thinking has gotten religious . My mom died 2 months ago . Now its just me and him. But dad believes mom has become a devi and he'll make me meet her sometime. I know these are his
delusions. My relatives are there with me. And we're going to start his treatment soon.

@@harshshrivastav7216 I can totally understand. These thoughts do come in when they are suffering from a psychotic illness. When they are in that zone, try asking them questions like, 'what does God want you to do', 'what do you want to do now', allow them to release it may be thrashing th pillow, writing and tearing the pages. These methods are used in therapies and allow the person to firsr build the trust with you/ outer world, and to release the pain in some degree.

Yes this society should respect the person facing this and it's whole family to help someone to survive. It need lot of courage to treat these patients. So a change of attitude required to deal this, other wise this whole society will be ashamed to destroy these courageous efforts.

In my opinion, the Indian education needs to upgrade the psychological content from high school. In North America, we are taught the psychological disorders in high school.

Hello Arsh, I am glad to hear that it helped you in some way. But, I also feel, more than just having the content in books, it's equally important to lay emphasis on promoting empathy. That's the most required skill for every individual/ citizen right now, yet is something that's paid such less attention.

It's a modern day scam rubber stamped by law enforcement for big pharma med dumping based on a super rare condition.
Research targeted individuals; find ways to deal with the magnetic liquid in your body and, because of v2k, think in another voice so they can't fake your voice to mess with your finances or personal life.
Ask why the police aren't dealing with the drones and why no one in authority is taking this seriously.

Read the work done by Doctor J Abrahm Hoffer. He treated schizophrenic patients with high doses of Niacin. May be there you could find some help. Continue her with antipsychotic medication. If she doesn't take medicines, try injectables form of medicines. Develop insight of this situation within her self as soon as possible because when we know something is not right, we try to rectify that as in her case, she is not aware of her condition. Do not tell her that there is something wrong, let that develop it by itself. Do not leave her alone please.

And as Dhananjay has mentioned, NIMHANS is good, and there's Schizophrenia foundation in Chennai too. Apart from that, just be there for her, and let her believe that you understand her. That's the utmost need of her, and when she gains that faith in you, she will feel empowered. Listen to her, accept her condition, I know it's very tough, but do it. That will be helpful for her, but for you too.
