what am I supposed to do
    woman
    to get along with you
    I read your books
    I read your poems
    there's things I'll do
    and there's things I won't
    there's things to know
    that ain't been wrote
how'm I sposed to keep on down this road
    woman
how am I supposed to feel
    woman
is half this stuff even real
    I kicked the nest
    and I done been stung
    I can see the gallows
    where I'm gonna be hung
maybe someday if we're lucky we'll find
a little bit a truth underneath the lies
    I been living in you
    you been living in me
    I'll keep it real
    you keep if free
tell me why it's gotta be
    so hard
    america, girl
    what's goin on?
    woman
why's it gotta be so hard
    woman
to know who you really are
    I talked to yer ma
    I talked to yer pa
    I talked with the devil
    I talked with god
    I consulted the east
    I went to the west
nobody could tell me which was best
    I been living in you
    you been living in me
    I'll keep it real
    you keep if free

The American songbook is having a big new chapter being written. Welles is a breath of fresh air antidote to all the poisonous late empire crap that's been going on in this low dirty quarter century.
I'm 78 and glad music culture hasn't died completely.

Jesse- I am writing this from a dark room without power and a generator running my wifi. Western NC/appalachia has been devastated by Hurricane Helene and we may never recover. It’s hurricane katrina levels of destruction due to us being so far inland, especially in the mountains, the valleys filled up like bowls and the tiny forest streams were destroyed attempting to drain this flood. Thousands of appalachians, good, hardworking, folks who live off as little as possible, are gone. Missing or dead. It’s been 2 weeks since the hurricane and half of the population in some counties are without water and power still. Entire towns are gone, replaced with 3foot deep toxic mud flats. Supplies cannot get to us via roads because they are still collapsing and blocked. We are being told not to drive unless it’s an emergency. People believe that we deserve this, they say we were stupid to not evacuate, but we are 300+ miles from the coast, we are in the highest possible places to get away from flooding and danger, and we were told by our government officials to NOT evacuate, we were told to shelter in place. Please consider using your voice to spread awareness about this situation, everyone has already moved onto hurricane milton in Florida, including donations and the linemen who were supposed to help us. Hurricane Milton is bad but they had the time and the warning to evacuate, and it actually lowered categories once it reached land. Hurricane Helene did the opposite. Please do not let us be forgotten.

I couldn’t sleep, listening to this song and decided to print it and sing it without learning the chords or anything. Went back to find a link to it to add to my “cover” and saw this comment from a Helene survivor. Since I sold one of Jesse’s he’s welcome to mine. My version is on my channel but be forewarned I can’t sing and don’t play that great. Anyway, the song for Helene survivors still trying to recover lyrics:
      Helene
      No warning came,
      the skies turned gray,
      The winds roared fierce,
      Dreams swept away.
      People huddled,
      homes turned to dust,
      Left to fight,
      in a world unjust.
      Forgotten faces
      in the storm’s cruel wake,
      New hurricanes come,
      more hearts to break.
      Elections rise,
      and the headlines fade,
      But the struggle remains,
in the shadows that were made.
      They weren’t told to run,
      no place to hide,
In the eye of the storm,
      the pain resides.
      Rebuilding lives,
      piece by piece,
      In a land where sorrow
      never seems to cease.
      Forgotten faces
      in the storm’s cruel wake,
      New hurricanes come,
      more hearts to break.
      Elections rise,
      and the headlines fade,
      But the struggle remains,
in the shadows that were made.
      Communities torn,
      but spirits fight,
      Against the dark,
      they seek the light.
      Though the world moves on,
      they still stand,
      Holding on tight,
      to the promised land.
      Newscasts fade,
      and the cameras leave,
      But the scars remain,
      and the people grieve.
      In the quiet aftermath,
      they strive to survive,
      In their hearts,
      a desperate drive.
      Forgotten faces
      in the storm’s cruel wake,
      New hurricanes come,
      more hearts to break.
      Elections rise,
      and the headlines fade,
      But the struggle remains,
in the shadows that were made.
      So here’s to the ones,
      left in despair,
      Holding on strong,
      in the storm's cruel glare.
      May they find peace,
      as the years roll by,
In the hope of a dawn,
      beneath the same sky.

Jesse's magnum opus! His most original guitar composition yet, doesn't sound like the same picking pattern/chord progression he leans toward, and universally-applicable lyrics about reconciling patriotism and disappointment. Not too on-the-nose, perfectly heartfelt. Atypical song structure, but resolves enough to make it sound like a classic folk-rock radio anthem. Excellent work!

So much talent. He's done the work, put in the time. Guitar chops, and a great songwriter. Lately, he's going full Dylan and experiment with song structure and cadences. I'm very impressed, and look forward to every release.

I really like this song. And he's the total package. He needs a good manager and a record deal with a great producer but none of the new producers that make everything sound the same.

    • @devilsoffspring5519
      @devilsoffspring5519 Месяц назад +7

He doesn't need a producer. For the kind of music he makes, his own recordings are fine. Hiring a producer will just make things incredibly expensive and time-consuming and his style of music doesn't require a huge fuss and a studio chock-full of expensive equipment.
His voice, his guitar and sometimes his harmonica. No multi-million dollar "deal" needed.

He’s already been through that meat grinder with his attempt at a heavy metal career, 8-10 years ago. That’s why he’s doing this; to be in control of his own life, his own music, morals and values. There’s nothing here that needs to be marketed or managed. This is music at its purest… leave it alone and let it happen.
