The American songbook is having a big new chapter being written. Welles is a breath of fresh air antidote to all the poisonous late empire crap that's been going on in this low dirty quarter century.
I'm 78 and glad music culture hasn't died completely.
Just came across this guy doing his health care song. After listening to several of his songs now I must say, he's Damned Good. As an old man it gives me hope that younger people can hear really great American music from someone as young as Jesse.
He is a great song writer i even call him a poet
I discovered the gem of Jesse Welles last week with his United Health song on RUclips. What a wonderful folk musician and songwriter! His songs are very uplifting! ❤

73 years old, playin for '60 of em. This guy is the real thing, the powerful antidote to current popular music. And as far as I can tell, he's getting better...more inventive playing, expressive singing, just goin' for it. Rock on, Jess. I'm gonna get into the sold out SF gig one way or another!
Let’s be honest… Jesse needs to just have a concert right there under those power lines.. who else would pay good money to put a blanket down, styrofoam cooler with chilled beverage of choice?? Sounds absolutely perfect.

Starting watching Jesse’s videos yesterday. Young man is tuned into the songs that just need to be played.
I mean, I'm a sucker for the guitar work but the harmonica too? Dudes everything good about what music used to be
Jesse- I am writing this from a dark room without power and a generator running my wifi. Western NC/appalachia has been devastated by Hurricane Helene and we may never recover. It’s hurricane katrina levels of destruction due to us being so far inland, especially in the mountains, the valleys filled up like bowls and the tiny forest streams were destroyed attempting to drain this flood. Thousands of appalachians, good, hardworking, folks who live off as little as possible, are gone. Missing or dead. It’s been 2 weeks since the hurricane and half of the population in some counties are without water and power still. Entire towns are gone, replaced with 3foot deep toxic mud flats. Supplies cannot get to us via roads because they are still collapsing and blocked. We are being told not to drive unless it’s an emergency. People believe that we deserve this, they say we were stupid to not evacuate, but we are 300+ miles from the coast, we are in the highest possible places to get away from flooding and danger, and we were told by our government officials to NOT evacuate, we were told to shelter in place. Please consider using your voice to spread awareness about this situation, everyone has already moved onto hurricane milton in Florida, including donations and the linemen who were supposed to help us. Hurricane Milton is bad but they had the time and the warning to evacuate, and it actually lowered categories once it reached land. Hurricane Helene did the opposite. Please do not let us be forgotten.
I pray for you and all those affected! I have been donating to Samaritan's Purse and World Vision and telling anyone who will listen about what is going on. I wish I could do more. Please know that not all are blind and heartless to this disaster. My heart is with all of you. 🙏 It's dumb cliche but I don't know how else to say it, please stay strong, best you can.
Hang in there - I'm sorry for your situation. I live 8 miles south of Lansing North Carolina. I've been volunteering and my chainsaw and my generator has been lent out, and it's just a mess. Sorry for your difficulties-I have been blessed in comparison, but the devastation is all around me

Man, what an incredibly versatile songwriter. I love the rapier wit of his songs about unchecked greed, orgiastic consumerism, etc. This is miles from that; just as eloquent and beautifully arranged but more personal. Fame is not for Jesse, imo. If he wrote a song about it, I don't think it would sound like a prayer.

This song is a metaphor of America. It poses a question we all need to answer with honesty.
And that question is simple. Will we choose Jesus Christ or we will we choose the Antichrist?
Jesse's magnum opus! His most original guitar composition yet, doesn't sound like the same picking pattern/chord progression he leans toward, and universally-applicable lyrics about reconciling patriotism and disappointment. Not too on-the-nose, perfectly heartfelt. Atypical song structure, but resolves enough to make it sound like a classic folk-rock radio anthem. Excellent work!
I hope you made another studio album some day. I still listen to Welles occasionally and miss the music from that time. Glad to see you still making beautiful music for us 90s hippies!!

I first saw & heard Jesse in March, 2024, the week my mother died, staying in my parents bedroom, far away from our home. Jesse gave me something to helped me through my grief. TY Jesse. ❤

@@Wargsy Thank you, it’s been the hardest year of my life, both of my parents were moved from their house to a 24 hour hospice house, my mom died promptly and painlessly, thankfully, but it was so sudden, still grieving her. My dad is dying right now, but he is 100% deaf with dementia that he’s had for over 10 years. It’s very difficult to know how long my dad will hang on, but he’s 90, so it would be a blessing for him to pass, when I was down south in September (last month at this time) he was hurting bad, he can’t talk much anymore, but he kept saying owie, ouch, ouwe, so got his meds adjusted and now he’s not in pain, thanks for your kind words.

You will go far. I've been in the music business my whole entire life. When I got out of the Marine corps I played music for a living. I recognize serious talent. You have the songwriting skills that not many have. I've heard a lot of your lyrics and they are incredibly written. Your guitar playing a solid and you have a really friendly down-to-earth look. I think you're going to go huge. I hope so because you got something very unique. I knew right away I recognize something different and special.

I really like this song. And he's the total package. He needs a good manager and a record deal with a great producer but none of the new producers that make everything sound the same.
He doesn't need a producer. For the kind of music he makes, his own recordings are fine. Hiring a producer will just make things incredibly expensive and time-consuming and his style of music doesn't require a huge fuss and a studio chock-full of expensive equipment.
His voice, his guitar and sometimes his harmonica. No multi-million dollar "deal" needed.
