- I recently had the pleasure of adding bass to an already-awesome cover of the song by co-creator @alexdarval , with the original performance by @hellswelles (captivating and emotionally pleasing as it is).
i am writing to you from earth
star date 20 20 and 4
in the middle of the ocean
and i can't hardly see the shore
it's a hard way to find out
ya don't wanna be a sailor
halfway across the atlantic
in your mother's trailer
what i'd do to be certain
i heard a quasi-psychedelic jester gladiator
on his compound in the flower of the mexican war
you'll become what you hate if you seek to replace
what u hate i never seen it more
it's a hard way to find out
you don't wanna be a horn
when they're already blowing
in the middle of a storm
what i'd do to be certain
there's a light beneath the curtain
where the shadows dance
i can't know
i can't trust it
i can't take the chance
somedays the sun comes up
in spite of me
i'm gonna find it
inside of me
what i'd do to be certain
i see that hate has some pep in it's step
i would too with a big blank check
all the backwards preachers in out in oklahoma
are gettin high gettin stoned on their own aromas
its a hard way to find out
that it ain't above love
that fear is a comfort
it fits like a glove
what i'd do to be certain
Please like and subscribe!
We haven't heard much music like this in 60 years. So refreshing.
Thanks for listening!
Yea fr this is great
“You’ll become what you hate, if you seek to replace what you hate,” is a line that I think about a lot.
Me too. From father to son, to father to son.
It reminds me of the overall theme of The Revolt of the Angels by Anatole France. Overthrowing a tyrant only makes you the new tyrant. Amazing read if ever you find the urge. :)
Just what it needed nothing fancy to out shine the talent of Jesse just a little something to enrich the sound and the rhythm. Perfect
Agreed. Thanks for listening!!
I. LOVE. THIS. SONG.
Me too tbh, especially that harmonica line
Thank you Samuel and Alex for taking the incomparable magic of Jesse Welles music and somehow elevating it into a 3 piece masterpiece. Happy New Year and thanks again.
Thanks Kareem for your ongoing support!
I’m surprised there aren’t more likes!!! Jesse Welles is America’s next folk hero.
Hell, he ALREADY IS America’s folk hero! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Definitely of the modern days. Thanks for watching!

NATURAL❤
Thanks for watching, Love Jesse
Excellent .
Thank you
Yo, just got the urge to write while listening to Jesse's latest, Life is Good. Typed these lyrics in the comment section as I listened to his song. You guys want to make it a tribute song? Guess it's called, Jesse Welles?
Every time, like a dime, so refreshing to know,
Jesse Welles is out there, thoughtful, spitting life's tomes,
in green field under wires, sun shining, air clear
bugs buzzing around, critters raising an ear
Making losers sit up, dragging winners way down,
with truths so profound and bright chords swirling round
Chords of sadness too sacred and root bitter sweet,
today we all drink from mother's stardust raw teat
Making losers sit up, dragging winners way down,
with truths so profound and bright chords swirling round
Chords of sadness too sacred and root bitter sweet,
today we all drink from mother's stardust raw teat
Sit back and relax, chill, listen and smile,
as Jesse strums, whistles, mad harmonicaphile
Enjoy the peep show, hit refresh one more time,
Jesse Welles just uploaded a few more sweet lines
Making losers sit up, dragging winners way down,
with truths so profound and bright chords swirling round
Chords of sadness too sacred and root bitter sweet,
today we all drink from mother's stardust raw teat
Making losers sit up, dragging winners way down,
with truths so profound and bright chords swirling round
Chords of sadness too sacred and root bitter sweet,
today we all drink from mother's stardust raw teat

These look awesome David.
That full sound!!)
Nice! Love the vibe you two added.
Thanks David!!
@@samuelseefeld Great to hear jamming from the younger generation. Happy New Year from the states.
Hey, I'd like to send you and Ross a song. Instead of putting your bass over my recording, take the song and lyrics and turn it into your own thing. I only have two requests. 1) I'd like the two of you to record at least one version where you sing together for most of the song. After listening to a few ISMS songs, I think harmonizing is right for the song I have in mind. 2) Once you have a rough recording of your version, I'd like to hear it, get a feel for where you're going, and maybe make a few suggestions. If you're good with this, let me know an appropriate email, or use the one in the about section of my channel to send MP3/WAV files and written lyrics.
I'll be traveling the states starting a couple weeks from today. Won't be online much, so, hoping ISMS will take this one and turn it into a hit I'll hear on the radio while traveling. Song is called Big Leaves. It's a live recording (with a minute of intro you can skip) from a couple years ago. I wrote the lyrics 4-5 years ago. Video is live right now. I'll leave it up for a couple days, so you can listen and decide if it's something you want to work with. Please ignore the fact I cut off the top of my head the first forty five seconds of singing, while filming. I have no idea what I'm doing with video recording.
Edit: Also there's the rough draft of a tribute song for Jesse Welles I wrote in about ten minutes today (mentioned, with lyrics, in another message here). If you want to, take it and run. I wrote it to semi-follow the melody of Jesse's, Life is Good. Change that up a bit and you've got your own thing.
One last, relatively long, message. I'm older and my health isn't great. That's a key component of why I ended up using AI with a few of my songs. As a writer of a few novels and lots of short stories, deep down, I'm not a fan of AI.
Sooo, I think your ISMS band is the right fit for my stories/songs, of which there are nearly 800. While you guys are a little tentative (y'all are young, so that makes sense), and at times hit walls within your writing and timing, I think your knack for story telling through the musical portion of your work is unique in today's music for people your age. You seem to have a natural sense for using sound to convey story plots and emotion.
As I said, I'm traveling soon. If you want to take and run with Vanished Mountain Dreams (which is potentially a whole album based off my novel) and Big Leaves, turning them into your own things instead of trying to work with my shitty A Cappella pacing, I'd love to hear what you come up with. Again, I can send the MP3/WAV and text files. My email is listed in the about section of my channel. I would be willing and happy to help you two develop your own lyric writing skills through this process. It's the one area in which I feel confident to discern when to chop up, add stuff or adjust syllabically based on musicians choices of timing, chords and emotion.
@@GracefulBeast Thanks for your kind words, David. Safe travels and Happy New Year. Big Leaves sounds great, to be honest. I'd love to go with that one with Ross for now. The Jesse Welles one I could do also (along or with Ross)
@@samuelseefeld Sounds great. Let me know if you need/want the original A Cappella MP3/WAV recordings for Big Leaves, and where to send them.
Thanks for keeping the drums and bass properly balanced. I love listening to covers of Jesse's songs with extra instruments, but hate when the drums are so louddd you cant even enjoy it. Great job bros. Love this track and cover!
Thank you! I took consideration with the levels trying to get it sounding good. In retrospect I believed I may have set the bass slightly high. Anyway thanks for watching and stay tuned for more!
keep grinding, Sam!
Thanks for watching man
This one is really good
Thanks for watching!
And I thought it would never happen. Thanks for this!
Thanks for watching! Your channel seems interesting so I might check it out further.
@@samuelseefeldSure thing! And thank you! Would love for you to stop on by!
Perfect in the pocket Rythym!
Thanks for watching!
Earned a subscriber. Nicely done
Thanks!! Appreciate it.
@samuelseefeld deserved. Nice work. Look forward to watching you grow your presence
So glad you guys have done this with Jesse’s music! Sounds awesome … I hear a little Tommy Tutone (Jenny) in there 😊
Jesse is an everyday pleasure. Thanks for listening!
I hear TT too!
Tommy.. Hahahah!
You love to see it
Gotta say Jesse's fan base are a special breed, loads of musicians. Thanks for listening!
I'm rapidly becoming a fan. Shades of Dylan, Van Ronk. Does this guy ever tour or anything? I'd love to see him. I'd love to jam with him even more.
You can really hear the Tweedy influence with the rhythm section there.
Too right. Thanks for watching
Nice job 👏👏👏👏
Thanks!
I was super skeptical of the bass tone but it really fits the verse.
Thanks! I love my P Bass.
I was ready to give you 💩when I saw the thumbnail, but it sounds great. Just did what the song asked for. 🤟
Yeah looks like I'm about to tear it up hahaha
Thanks for watching!
woah bros
Thanks for the comment
👍
Epic!!
Thanks for watching Kai!!
Great job guys! You actually added to the song. Still, I am more impressed with Jesse's timing now. Not often that a rhythm guitar can set a rocksteady pace for the drummer. Usually the other way round. It actually feels like you are all playing together.
Thank you so much for watching! I agree, Jesse is definitely keeping that rhythm tight and we are just going along. I would love to play with Alex and Jesse live one day. Please check out my other project on youtube, @isms-music
"There's a light beneath the curtain where the shadows dance"--reference to Plato's Allegory of the Cave?
Now that I think of it, yes. Song is about human perception so that lines up well.
This is great. Bass is a bit rich on headphones imo but it's still great!
Keep it up!
Yeah I think I turned it up too much. Thanks for watching!
great drums! bass could use a 1000% increase in giving a shit and learn the song!
Thanks for the comment, I guess. You are leaving a digital footprint.
Hey Guys! Another Cassandra Farms Remix of a Jesse Welles Tune - GTFOH
ruclips.net/video/Rsf-5vEhbMQ/видео.html
Added 5 string Fender Jazz, SG Standard (2 tracks), EZDrummer, Banjo and Synth Organ.
Nice!
Lol I thought it was drum and bass 😂 I was like "a techno Jesse Welles song? What!?" 🤷🤣🤦
That's an idea actually
Wow! Sounds much better like this. Good job 👏
Thank you!
Jesse doesnt need a drum and bass, he needs a cello and violyn
Interesting idea, thanks for watching!
@@tylerflint5447 you dont get it.
The harp is as good as violins and cello.
The most suspicious looking bassist ever😂
Thanks for watching!
Nice additions! - any particular reason for using broken sticks?
Not sure actually, seems to be Alex Darval's thing. Maybe he needs to go out and find some new ones or he's OK using those broken ones
Send it back. I don't need to hear that I'm the problem if I'm trying to help. I know what the problems are.
Well said brother. What are the problems?
@@samuelseefeld Pretentious posturing. We can start there.
was hoping for a dnb rhythm
Hahaha maybe i should do one of those for fun
I posted my remix of War Isn't Murder here:

(I've been performing folk music since 1962)
Hi, I listened to your remix. I think it's awesome! Thanks for commenting!
Aloha again, Samuel. I just posted a remix of Jesse Welles' War Is A God.
Added 6 string fretless bass, SG Standard tracks (3), EZDrummer 3, Banjo, and Synth Organ

Keep On Rockin'! 🙂
Thanks! Even better than the other one.
@@samuelseefeld Thanks... The Muses were kind. 🙂
My remix of GTFOH coming soon. First I need to do David Rovics "Deport the Billionaires"
Ooops, my count was off, From The Ashes (mentioned today in CounterPunch's Roaming Charges) was our 6th album -- Deport the Billionaires begins our 7th.
Jesse don't need yalls help .
Thanks Denise.
Whether or not he "needs" it, this bass and drums accompaniment sure does enrich the sound and feel of the song. Really brings out the song's structure too, IMHO. And I kinda get the notion that Jesse himself would dig it, he seems like the type who would really enjoy the collab. Thanks for doing this, guys! 🫡
@@benumbed-n-beknighted Thanks!
Bass is too loud, also needs less bridge pickup more neck pickup but you wont get that from a p-bass.
Yeah a jazz bass is real expensive around where I live. Will turn down in future. Thanks for watching!
