- How was I supposed to know
That my stone was gonna roll
way down in the valley
How was I supposed to see
All the fishes in the sea
Swimmed on without me
I was jus a little stone
At the bottom of the sea
The waves were crashing over me
How was I supposed to keep
All of my sheep
When the hill’s so steep
How was I supposed to know
That my stone was gonna roll
Way down in the valley
To the ocean
Floating along with the strangest notion
Gonna take off my old clothes
And never put em back on
TAKANAKA
Fear…..
Is the mind
Is the mind
Killa
Killa
The real a dilla
Fear fear fear ahhh
How was I supposed to know
I was gonna fall in love with 'ole Takanaka
Mowing my lawn on a Sunday
Praying for the daisy’s forgiveness
And the rain to come on
To the ocean…
How’s the surf down there in Japan, good man?
Is it open?
I wanna be specifically pacific
but i'm arkansan
I know I must
I gotta trust
This lust
For the ocean
TAKANAKA
Fear
Is the mind
Is the mind
Killa
Killa
The real dilla
Fear fear fear ahhhh
How was I supposed to know that my soul was gonna grow
Into a big soul flower
And the only thing I’d ever need is a big hot sun
And the occasional shower
How was I supposed to know that my stone was gonna roll
Way down in the valley
How was I supposed to see all the fishes in the sea
Were swimming on without me
In the ocean
Fear
Is the mind
Is the mind
Killa
Killa
The real dilla
Fear fear fear ahhhh
Dude - you released this vid 30mins ago and I'm almost the 1300 viewer. You seem to be just a normal dude playing guitar and writing sick songs - but you need to know the following you now have. Your tunes are bonkers. Don't sell-out - keep writing intense, current, and intricate lyrics. You're insane man - keep putting the work in - you're slaying it. It's gonna be worth it. Singer of a generation(s) right here.
Couldn’t have said it better myself. 🤘
He's a professional musician and has been for years.
Apparently he was in the band Welles. Which I've heard a few of their songs. I didn't realize it was him though til like 2 days ago when someone on TikTok brought it up
@@katelynbrown98 he is the band welles lol
@@zebfox011 relax dude - we’re giving him compliments. Sorry we don’t all know his life story like you do. This guy rocks and regardless of his current status, he needs to be bigger. Just chill man - we’re all on the same team here.
What a joke the music industry must be to this guy. Spent 6 years releasing stuff on YT never to get 100k views. Even with killer music and videos. Then he slings an acoustic over himself and walks into the woods playing simple, well written music and he blows up.
He hit the right combination of things at the right time to catch people’s attention.
Big soul flower waiting to bloom
I know a few ppl that love the guy with a guitar in the woods that writes amazing music. He will get his worth sooner or later. I don't see a world where ppl can't relate to his music
There’s no record industry for regular ppl. This is it now.
@@mathearniusAs fellow guitarist for over 23 years now; no musician that I've met in my entire life would I deem to be a "normal" person. "Normal" people can't play instruments.
This is as if Bob Dylan, Jim Morrison and Mick Jagger merged into one person. I love it!
Came to the comments to write the exact same 😂
I call him Cornfield Mick
Okay I can’t lie this is my first ever comment anywhere but, I’m just too obsessed you like you’re an absolute hero. Like NO ONE can match what you’re doing here it’s just too unique and absolutely breathtaking to be quite frank. And I’m not even lying when I say it cheers me up SO much on those tough days that I just needed to let you know that when I’m struggling the first thing I do is go to your channel and sing along with what ever video pops up first ☠️. I don’t even know if people will see this but I just really wanted to let SOMEBODY out there know this is the pinnacle of music right here, no doubt about it.
We are all growing right now, growth sees growth
We're seeing this comment and agreeing with you --- keep on keepin on brother
Man.. you really found the right path now. I know you’ve been working on this for a long time. Stripped, naked, you, and a guitar.. There’s no ego in the woods, brother. Thank you for the times.
You could almost call it the Golden path.
When I suggested he strip naked, everyone yelled at me.
@@DavidLS1 And he made it clear in this song you were right lol.
“There’s no ego in the woods” is eye opening I love that perspective on how much authenticity it adds
@@surrahig1262 It’s a statement from experience. When you’re out there, there’s no one to impress. Mother Nature nor wildlife care who you are, where you’ve been, or what you’ve seen. It’s all survival. My father taught me how to survive at an early age. He said that if I were ever lost, he knew he would find me alive. I grew up in north Florida. Swamps, sink holes, dangerous predators, hell, danger with each foot step.
Jesse...constantly...takes my breath away...leaves me speechless....in awe.
We are witnessing one of the absolute all time...for all times before and all time to come...one of the greatEST ever.
This is History in the making. I feel utterly privileged to experience what Jesse shares with us.
Words fail me. Not him.
So lucky we are. So meaningful, touching, important, and consequential is he.
Goddamn. Fuckin mind blowing on the reg.

“I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. Wow. Thank you for sharing.
I was having a terrible morning until watching this. Genuinely restored my hope for the day. Incredible
Right! What an amazing tune! Have a great day ☀️
Please for the love of God release this as a single or on an album so I can listen to it easier. This is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard in my life. Love from Los Angeles, Jesse.
The takanaka riff brought a single tear to my eye every time
I was just wondering about the riff then he name dropped
Could you share what the Takanaka song is, pls! I'm so curious.
@@sodabara the song is OH! Tengo Suerte! Listen to the full song immediately!!
Nice sampling of masayoshi takanaka. That riff was awesome, I relate with this song so much. His songs make the rainiest days the sunniest. That whole Brazilian infused album is amazing.
dude i did not expect that riff at all, i am so blown away rn lmao. Takanaka is goated
@@AfroThunder8268on glizzy bruh
Thank you for teaching me about masayoshi takanaka 😊
I heard the riff and was like wait I know that from somewhere haha
@ootboi69 That's crazy I thought I was the only one who said "on glizzy"
I hope Takanaka Masayoshi hears this.
Jesse your songs make me cry man, I've been seeing your stuff since the moment you first uploaded on youtube. I'm usually at each video in the first 20-30 minutes. I love everything you do, originals, covers, all of it. You're such a breath of fresh air, and as a seriously major Takanaka fan I can't help but just appreciate this song. Musician of a decade speaking, absolutely can't get enough of your music. Thank you so very much, please do what makes you happy, and keep bringing light into this world.
Have you listened to his old bands “Welles” and “dead indian”? Really cool live performances on RUclips you’d prolly love it if not
@@DestroyedAngel Yeah I actually checked out a lot of his other stuff about a month or two ago, absolutely astounding the sheer contrast in application of musicality from this and his past projects.
Actually one of the best songs ive ever heard
i agree.. wish it was on spotify :l would put that shit on repeat!
Ain't no way this young man is just singing to mother nature the most poetic troubles of men.
🤙🏼
Being 54 years old and a huge music fan all my life, I can honestly say that to hear the first 30 seconds of a song and it to connect straight away with your heart and soul is very very rare...This tune is one of those very rare occassions. Great lyrics, great composition, a dude obviously lovin' the shit out of what he's doing, whats more perfect. Beautiful to see and hear. Thankyou so very much bro 🙏
Same. I’m 73.

Homie out here just mixing american folk and Japanese city pop. To good
I've never felt more seen in my entire life.
Brooo the Takanaka reference and melody is awesome to incorporate! Great taste, one of my favs as well.
''Gonna take off my old clothes
And never put em back on'' I love that!
Comparing you to anyone else is unfair, these are terrific pieces of art that stand alone
My eyes and ears feel nothing but the same way I did when I first heard 1964 bob Dylan
Awestruck with the class and his ability to express his older than gold soul
I think this one is your best yet.
listened to it about 5 times now and i just found it
I agree actually, hits so many ranges. unique tones. lyrically impressive. He's on the right track.
Big fan of Takanaka. Currently on a boat in the Atlantic and i hear that melody. Almost cried. Youre a real guy, guy. ❤
Please share and make this guy go viral, he deserves it and the world needs this medicine. AUTHENTICITY!!!! AI can't formulate art like this man. Bless you!!! 🌈❤️🔥🙏
Dude with a soul of a 62 year old but barely breaking 30 . Much love from the slums of Jersey City. Your music saved my life recently and I can’t thank you enough for it brother. ❤
The takanaka reference blew my mind ive been obsessed with him for the past couple months and finding out that my other favorite new artist has been inspired by him is awesome
Literally same
Love the Takanaka inspiration, I recognized the riff immediately and you blended it beautifully. You make me want to learn guitar again just to play your songs.
i got so excited 😭😭😭
This is the best song I've heard in years. A Dylan level classic right here. What a time to be alive.
i love the takanaka inspo. literally could not imagine a better way to spin that progression
I've never seen an artist come out of left field with so many incredible songs back to back to back. Just a dude with his yellow Stella putting a voice to all our anger and fear about the state of the world.
You are one of people who are doing unimaginable piece of work in order of saving this world. Thank you.
This song is phenomenal, real music. Took me back
This song truly blows me the f*** away. Every time I listen to it I'm hooked. So glad you've made this for us! Thank you
The Masayoshi Takanaka riff is so cool
For anyone who hasn't listened, it's from the song Oh Tengo Suerte by Takanaka. Very cool guitarist.
Thanks man went right over my head
oh! i’m lucky
i knew i recognized that little bit from somewhere, cool!
2 Timothy 1:7 "God didn't give us the the spirit of fear, but the spirit of love,of power and of a sound mind"
I love the Takanaka breaks in between. Brilliant.
Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh tengo suerteeee

this dude is actually from the future, but he just got back from visiting 1969, clearly as you can tell... (complimentary)
I know what you mean. He's from now! Music to our ears.

Love the image of Takanaka playing his surf board guitar as the antidote for fear.
I didn’t know that this dude was Arkansan. Nice to know that my state has yet another amazing Folk artist. 😊
I'm loving the melodic reference to Masayoshi Takanaka when you play the "Oh! Tengo Suerte" riff at 1:05. Great tune!

Hey I recognise this guitar part at 1:05 !!! It's masayoshi takanaka 100% sure!!
Yes! And he sings about him too! Good tribute
Oooooo tengo suerte!
Man, this one really speaks to me. It’s deeper than protest music (which is great, keep it coming) but we’re all so afraid for the future and we can’t think straight. Keep it up.
Coming back to this one 2 weeks later, I think its my favourite from your collection. I fucking love this song. Great work Jesse, never fails.
1:05 isn't that the riff from "OH! TENGO SUERETE" by Japanese guitarist Masayoshi Takanaka. Really great song!
Good catch! He references Takanaka in the lyrics too, cool homage

I just love that you brought TAKANAKA !!! I miss my 70s and 80s days! Damn
Some people are destine to be famous because you cannot separate them from their determination. You are one of those people Jesse. Happy to have heard you in this life :)
I just wanted to add that I love how times have changed for young musicians, in that, the people choose who the real artists are and not some record company or some entity with a lot of money
I wish I was strolling past you in the bush and got to see this sung live. feelin it

Love that Masayoshi Takanaka riff you included!
I think this one is my favorite of all the songs he’s released. There have been several that I’ve played on repeat all day, but something about this one. The hook from DUNE, the tune inspired by Masayoshi Takanaka. Really great stuff. I’d love to be able to get tickets to his show San Francisco but unfortunately they sold out in just minutes. Only tickets left are for his show at farm aide. I can’t make it to New York. Would be amazing to see him play at Pappy and Harriet’s in Southern California.
The masayoshi tankanaka refrence was crazy!!
Take this on the road young man. Well done.
TAKANAKA RIFF LEGENDARY!
dude, I recognized Mr. Takanaka's guitar melody immediately! I love how you blended it with your own style! and your subtle nod to him lyrically was genius! You're so creative Brother! Glad you're out there doing what you do!! 💪❤️
One look at you and I knew you either had it, or you didn't. Brother, you have the gift.
This one has everything. The natural landscape we've become accustom to, with the birds gently singing in the background and the wild verbesina stretching for sun against the high-voltage power line that the man made for us to suck on.
BUT, the center of the show shines with his (IMO) most impactful tune. His precise guitar picking right before he belts the timeless theme and title of the song sends chills down the spine. MAD RESPECT TO YOU JESSE. Keep the songs and the realness coming.
Genuinely in awe of your songcraft
You have become my only new music.
