- In this video the rear brakes are replaced on a Volvo S90.
Note that the brakes can be replaced without going through the diagnostic system but care must be taken when removing and replacing the parking brake motor. The motor must be electrically loosened before the motor is removed and the new brake pads can be set to park mechanically before the electric motor is reattached.
To loosen the Park Brake before removing the caliper;
1. Why don't you use a scan tool?
2. Disconnect the electrical connector from the motor
3. Use a fresh 9 volt battery
4. Connect Positive to the Top Lead and Negative to the Bottom Lead
5. Replace Pads and Reassemble
6 To reset the Park Brake like you found it;
6A Connect the Negative to the Top Lead & Positive to the Top Lead to Tighten.
6B Listen for the motor to stop and remove the 9 Volt power from the leads.
7. After both sides are complete and the Tires are on and torqued down
8. Start the car, with your foot on the brake,
9. With the car in DRIVE operate the parking brake on an off several times
10. Look for warning lights or messages.
11. No warning lights or messages means the work is complete.
12. Place the car in Park and observe the parking brake activate automatically.
David, great job on this video. You were very caring in going through all the details, even showing how to remove the lug nut caps. You’re a good man.
Thank you very much for your kind words
Thanks a lot. Your great video was leading to success here with my V90 brakes.
@@mikavuorela2063 Your welcome. I make these videos to help.
This is very detailed and helpful 👍🏻
I figured out an easy method to release parking brake without obd tool or the 9V battery method.
1. Start the car
2. Apply brake and put the car in neutral
3. Release the parking brake by pressing brake and press P ( parking brake next to driving mode).
4. While in Neutral, turn the strat/ stop know for 3 second,( make sure the car is on a flat surface and place some stopper at the tires).
5. Once its released unplug the brake motor connection and put the gear in parking position to secure the other brakes.
6. You can easily remove the motor and preform the brake work.
7. Once you're done changing the rotors, just plug the motor plug
8. Assemble the tire and start the car, engage and disengage the parking brake for a couple of times and you should be good.
Hello, I kind of got lost on #3 and #4. For #3, am I supposed to put on the "auto hold" ? and for #4, what do you mean by turn the start/stop for 3 seconds? Do you want the car to turn off using the start stop system?
Great video! Thank you!
super helpful video. thanks
I have a 2018 s90 t6. I bought the same icarsoft unit you have and just updated the firmware. I’m getting a “this function is not supported on this vehicle” message when I attempt to do anything with the parking brake. Any suggestions?
I just noticed you have the "V200 2.0" model and I bought the "VOL 2.0" model. I cant for the life of me figure out wha the difference between these two is on the icarsoft website. Both say they are compatible with my car. ughh
@@dutchgretel did you ever figure this out? About to do mine
@@wheelinarizona7638 yes and no. That unit absolutely does not support disabling the parking brake. I bought a few others that said they worked, nope. they didn't. I ended up installing Volvo's VIDA software and a DICE communication unit and paid the $70 for three days of access. It worked perfectly. The dice unit was around $130 and Vida can just go on any old laptop.
Before stripping everything, should the parking brake be on or off
off
Hello Sir, if I don’t relax the rear motor will the cause any issues because I don’t know how to relax it with the 9 volt battery.
Not relaxing the motor will not cause any issues but you need to retract the motor to get the caliper off the rotor and make enough space for the new pads.
Thank you so much, I did it and it worked perfectly, life saver you are, Volvo dealer was going to charge me an arm and a leg, plus I would have had to wait 4weeks to get my car back because they were backed up, few mechanics working they said, now I can take my wife out for lobster 🦞 because you saved me the expensive repairs. Thanks again.
@@TheKenechikeluba Hi. Di you have any photo where to connect the 9v battery to relax motor ?
Good grief.. to complicated, too much production, just change the brakes
