You single-handedly saved us from having a family meltdown trying to replace my brake pads. Thank you sir. Love my Volvo and all her quirks. Who needs an oil dipstick anyway!?
You mad lad. I have vida access and just didn't feel like digging through the maintenance module. 9v battery. 😂. Why is no one talking about this! Thank you!
Hey, great video thanks. For method 3, Do you know how to unclip the cable to the motor? Don’t want to brake it off by doing it wrong and it seems well stuck 😂
Hi there thanks for the voideo - very informative! Left rear park brake inactive.-checked the motor like you advised and its fine. Is there somewhere the cable typically is understress?- searching for a solution in the wire.. Thanks again
Thank you for the demonstration, I can clearly follow how to retract the motor & piston, whether removing the motor or using a small battery, but I am still a little bit in the dark as to how you reset the parking brake on completion, In my mind to reset the parking brake I assume you start the car press and hold the foot brake while operating the parking brake switch on and off two or three times.
Volvo tech here if you manually back it out in option 2. All you need to do it put it back together. Get into car and press the peddle a few times until it’s stiff again
The on/off is due to the EPB motor only moves a little each time. Yes, your foot is on the brake pedal, but that's the connection/pressure applied via brake fluid through the lines. But the EPB motor isn't fully caught up to engage brake electronically yet, and the on/off cycling of the swith closes that gap by synchronizing the two (electric vs fuild).
My 2010 XC70 stood for a few months with the EPB engaged. Now one side has seized entirely. Using a 9V or even 18V battery does not move the motor at all. Can I assume the motor is faulty or is there a chance it is the caliper as well?
Just use a 9v battery. Sellotape a couple of wires to it, hey presto. Watch it moves the right way and do it until it stops. I did this today. I am a very amateur mechanic! It was easy. Checked the car on a steep hill right after and it has worked fine.
Hi Nicholas, those should be M6x12. We have a service kit that includes stainless replacements. www.fcpeuro.com/products/volvo-epb-service-kit-aftermarket-30681857s#description
Nice video. Question, I bought the MX808 scanner shown, but when i go to put the brakes into service mode, i get an error saying "The Vehicle must be in usage mode active" any idea on what that means or what i may be doing wrong. The key is on (engine off) . I am on a 2020 Volvo XC60
Hey, when should I use the epb function of the scanner? Is it while the engine is on/off? Also is it Before / After I took off the wheels? A video of taking off rear brake while using the scanner can be great :)
I have a 2008 Xc70 Volvo and the park brake light is flashing on the dashboard and the brake does not push in to brake, so i need a new brake or is it the fuse??/
But how does the caliper actually retract? I did the battery trick, didn't seem to work. Pulled it off and did it manually, but how does the actual cylinder go back into the caliper????
So I ordered frt and rear brk pads, and rotors from your website, and doing this for the 1st time on my sister's 2018 XC90 t6 Momentum. I'm more familiar with Hondas, and with that said, I am planning on using the 3rd method. So, as long as I follow your directions, with doing the prkg brk on , and off, after brk pad replacement, I don't need to use a scanner? Thx. #R337109542 for reference.
@@JessBertra2012 I had to borrow an ex coworkers expensive scanner to reset the electronic parking brake. On the rear caliper brackets both sides has this one lower bolt that's quite hidden prepare to have a 3/8 breaker bar because that thing is torqued down to 66 ft pounds and it had loctite on it. Same with the front caliper mount bracket bolts they put loctite on it I don't know why. expect on the front is 148 foot pounds rear set 66 why you need a freaking loctite? I know that I said I'm a Honda guy, as I never saw Honda put loctite in their caliper bolts.
I completed rear brake pads change today on my Volvo XC60 (2012). The 9v battery trick worked a treat!! Genius.

Our pleasure!😅
The 9V battery trick is brilliant! 🙂 (I used a pair of alligator-clip test leads to make a hands-free connection. Super easy.)
thank you so much for this 9V battery trick. I was not about to drop $500 on a scan tool lol
Also good for jogging stuck fuel injectors into life
Thanks so much for this! Very helpful I had some skepticism about changing my rear pads but this cleared it up.
Thank you for the 9v battery solution. It was a gift.

I also have vida access. But have some problem about parking brae calibration. Help please
Awesome. Thanks for the 9v battery trick
You're welcome!
9V solution was clutch! Thanks.
The 9volt worked great! Thanks for the tip!
Great material. Really helpful and valuable
Helpful and to the point.. 10/10
Awesome tip thanks. Simon in Scotland UK 👍😁
Yay more Volvo videos!
9v solution rocked it! Thanks!!
Great to hear!
Thank you. Great video! 👍👍

Great video. Thank you!
You are welcome! Thank you for watching
Can you make a video on replacing the brakes on an S90 on the SPA platform?
Thank you very much. Helps a lot.
👏👏 Thanks a lot from Italy

Thanks needed this doing this before Easter
😀
Very Helpful, used method 3, worked fantastic. 2016 XC60 AWD. Thank You !!! MAddOG

Is it possible for the screw to come out when getting to the tighten (wrong) limit? Trying to install your Zimmer rotors with akebono pads on a v60.
Did you turn the electric brake clockwise after you removed the electric motor?
Thanks for that. Would using a 12v car battery damage the motors?

excellent
4th Method is to use Volvo Vida and engage service mode. But i guess that similar cost to a scantool or more
Got the scan tool and you can hear it backing off. Can take caliper off over old pads, but it's not back enough to fit over new pads
U ned to push the piston back as well
Great!!!!!!
What is the exact dimensions of the two T30 bolts holding the electronic parking brake to the caliper? Mine are stripped and need to be replaced
Hi Nicholas, those should be M6x12. We have a service kit that includes stainless replacements.

What if the t30 bolts are stripped

Key in, hold start button for 3 seconds to put the car into accessory mode, I would assume.
Can I use the battery method on a 2019 S60 ?

Car on them put in service mode or no

Can I do that with an 18 volt battery?
But how does the caliper actually retract? I did the battery trick, didn't seem to work. Pulled it off and did it manually, but how does the actual cylinder go back into the caliper????
You push it in manually just like on a normal caliper. The motor only turns a screw that push the cylinder

My broke ass is about to do the same. How did it go

niiice :))
Why would anyone do the second method haha? It's just giving you a mountain of work to do
P3 are a big NO for buying..... Such a shame..... Too much over engineering!
