A tip for those who think at the beginning that Karen's tutorials are not going to lead to anything good, and you are getting bored or discouraged, just start with the result at the end. By the way: the boring part is never boring, I think it is the miracle part. I have enjoyed this tutorial very much. Gràcies.
The magic comes when the mess turns into a masterpiece before you realize it is happening. It's the best part of the videos- you know it is coming, but you just don't know when- it's like Christmas
I painted my very first pastel after watching your video and step by step with using alcohol to set the pastel. I love my painting…Thank you…you’re the best!
I live in Idaho! I can’t get enough pictures of our beautiful state. We need to travel north for more pics. Too busy going to our rural farm 100 miles north of Boise. Would like to share a picture one day to see if all would like to paint it!?
I am so glad I found your tutorials! I am new to pastels and you have a great teaching style and your explanations are so good and just make a lot of sense! Thank you for sharing your knowledge and talent! I love your paintings!
Beautiful painting, much beyond the boring ref pic. I need to set up my easel and practice these from all the boring mtn scenes I have from much traveling!
You are one of the better pastel teachers on RUclips. Thank you for all of your efforts, and I do love your paintings and benefit from your instructions.
I am a total beginner with pastels. Your videos make them seem so approachable and fun! I appreciate you taking the time to explain your thought process, it has already helped me so much.
Thank you for the review of the Lux Archival paper. I recently did a test of 9 papers by painting the same image on each of them. The Lux Archival was the favorite of all those who saw my finished project. There were a few in the bunch that I will not be using. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I do enjoy watching your videos and have learned so much from you.
@@KarenMargulis I think what is confusing is that the ones in the background (along the top of the ridge) are bigger than the ones in the foreground. But, it seems to work. Was that an intentional distortion of the perspective to bring the viewer closer?
Thank you for sharing your journey with us. I love your channel. I bought this paper for similar reasons and you really inspired me to move forward and give it a try. Fabulous video,
I’m having difficulty sending you a message. They keep disappearing. I just wanted to say how much I enjoyed the mountains with the blue flowers. You’re so easy to follow. Thank you so much for your inspiration. Eileen.
Your painting turned out lovely, so much better than you boring reference photo! I’m amazed how you turned the same landscape into a much more interesting version! I do enjoy your videos quite a lot ✨
New to your Patreon site and new to pastels. You're a fantastic teacher and enjoying your videos. Love this mountain scene. Only wish pastels and papers weren't so so expensive.
Thank you for the taping demo. Once you showed how you did it, it seems so obvious but I really couldn't figure out how y'all were doing it 😂. I love your channel and your demos, Karen. Thank you so much!❤❤❤
Thank you Karen! I’m loving that you are posting some of our Patreon videos here on RUclips. As a subscriber to your Patreon I enjoy being able to watch the videos on my big screen TV! It’s so much easier to see your wonderful work. Like watching a movie. Thank you Winsome x
I love your work. Very beautiful painting and very informative session. The final painting looks more like a warm rich summer evening while the photograph shows a late spring morning. That is you artistic interpretation, and I love it.
Love your beautiful work and wonderful way you teach. I am just started and getting frustrated with mounting sanded paper etc as prep. Your use of color is inspiring! Thanks!
I'm still new at pastel and all its delicious intricacies. You are a huge help to me~thank you so much, Karen! You've answered all my current questions.
Its really interesting - I love pastel paintings and mounting the paper as you do is a great idea - and the second challenge for using pastels are for me to avoid the glass because I love the raw surface without a glass
@@KarenMargulis Same glass I prefer; really makes a difference.👍 Add: When I mount, I sometimes use a trim of mat board colored close and cut to be invisible, but keeps pastel away from glass. Others mount tight to glass, which I am uncomfortable with. How do you approach glass vs painting depth?
So I must say that your demos are the best! I am new to pastels and really did not know where to start. A few years back I ran 4 of your demo and kept up among side with my senneliers and was amazed at what I learned! I have also seen your work recently in Plein Air. Amazing!
Love it so much! So well done, I am working with acrylic paint, but I just got few ideas I would try to apply for creating my work. Thank you so much for such wonderful demo.
The meadow is attractive with the multi-purpled lupines against the greens, but I fell in love with the mountain colors, especially that sun-lit center one! Your placement of the colors for the sunshine-lit vs shadow areas is perfect! I LOVE this painting! Thank you for teaching this!
Thank you for your teaching . I have been practicing how to create the grasses kind of covering some of the flowers .Wonderful painting and great lesson !
Another tip-filled and engaging instructional video! Lux Archival has been favorite of mine for awhile and I’ve been raving about it so it’s great to hear your appreciation for its many fine qualities. I missed Heidi’s amusing commentary this time but perhaps she was dreaming about your next project, formulating thoughts to contribute. I truly love painting rocks and stone faces (so much variety and character) so I enjoyed this composition. I always learn so much whether spoken or demonstrated by your technique. Much gratitude!
Thank you very much for the tips and for Lux Archival Paper that does not need to be mounted. Great. And Its so interesting to watch your process and listen to your reflections on your choices and your lovely feeling for color and tone and for me it was a surprice that its possible to scrub the pastel with water - seemed to be a great idea that I will try. And I am curious do you create miniart? I would like you to share if you do.
You are so welcome! Thank you so much for watching. I am not sure what you mean by minart? I do occasionally paint small 2.5x3.5 artist trading cards. Is this what you mean?
A superb video to show the process, techniques and materials. I have recently bought some Pastelmat paper, by Clairefontaine, so this kind of painting will be great to start using the new paper. I usually paint in watercolours, albeit a novice, but I am keen to try pastels as I have a couple of basic starter sets that I haven't used very much. Seeing how you built up this painting has given me the inspiration to have a go and see how it works out.
I watch it with subtitles because I don't know English. A very informative and useful lesson. I bow low and thank you very much! ❤

I am your avid fan Karen. I go really with same style. Thanks.
The flowers are out of proportion and to the trees. The selection of colors are beautiful.
Thanks for watching. My goal for this painting was to capture the low angle of looking up through the flowers so that is why they appear larger.
