    This is a great demonstration of how to use contrast between the red/green complementary pair to create colors that pop! We love the suggestion to use denatured alcohol- it works with a lot of dry media, like graphite and charcoal, too!

    My illustration teacher used to tell us not to worry about how it looks when you’re building up the painting because in his words, “it will suck until it’s done.”
    But your paintings never ever ever suck even when they’re at the most basic stage. Even at the most basic stage when you’re creating shapes, your paintings are stunningly beautiful and they just get even more beautiful as you progress.
    And best of all you teach us how to develop all this beauty for ourselves.

      @Linda G I have just started on my drawing and watercolour journey and I believe the answer to your question "why is it so hard to get going?" is that it can be a lot of work. I always thought the people that painted well were gifted and that was that. But in reality it's hours and hours of learning, experimenting and practising. Cheers.

    Thank you Karen for this tutorial! So inspiring! Which type of paper should I need? I'm used to paint in aquarelle paper. Could I use that? Or you use a particular type of paper specifically for pastels? Thanks again, greetings from Argentina!

    • @KarenMargulis
      @KarenMargulis  2 года назад +1

      Yes you can! Canson mi-teintes paper is also goo and economical. I like to use sanded papers. I am not sure what kind is available in Argentina but look for something that says sanded paper for pastels.
