You've done it again Ms. Jennifer! My house is never gonna get clean because of you!! Oh well, at least I'll have a lot of 'Shabby Chic' accessories and more sewing tips!! Thanks for sharing.
The FriXion pen is just one of those awesome tools that makes projects fun Teresa Elgood!! Thank you so much for taking the time to watch and leave a comment!
Thank you your tutorials are brilliant. I have been sewing since my mother taught me at about the age of 10 but then had quite a break. It's nice to find someone who knows how to show the correct way when d doing things. I live in the UK and I wish there were more luscious fabrics at reasonable prices available here. Thank you I will be following you.
It took me forever, but I just finished my cover and absolutely love it. The video instructions were perfect and very helpful. I did put some fusible interfacing on the pocket to make it sturdier. I also added ribbon trim at the top of the pocket. A cute little heart button topped it off. I will go back to your videos for other projects and I just ordered the Better Not Pout Ornament Club and can't wait to get started on that. Thank you so much!
How exciting! Don't you just love it when it all works out and then you have something wonderful to use knowing you made it yourself?! So glad you joined The Better Not Pout Ornament Club! It's going to be SOOO much fun! Thanks for watching and commenting Sue! :) Jen
You're such a great and fun instructor. Your directions are so easy to follow and I really appreciate your time in making these tutorials available to us. I want to make EVERYTHING :) Thanks again !

The best sewing tutorial I've ever seen! Please try the colored ponytail elastics, I always use them for pattern that calls for elastic. Thank you for making the pattern available.
Can't wait to made a 7 inches tablet cover I wanted always wanted to make one and also iam making box bags and I love to sew and leard so much thank you 💜💙
Great project Jennifer! I've made one of these before, but instead of an elastic cord I made a half-circle flap with a buttonhole for a closure. You can also use a ponytail elastic (I but bags of 100 of them for $1 at Dollar Tree) for the cord. I leave the metal clip on the ponytail elastic sticking out of the seam while I'm sewing it into place because it's easy to hold onto and then I snip it off before turning my project right-side out!
Just love the idea...and you explained so nicely ... and that goof up part was very motivating...as I too all the time make mistakes and feel so clumsy... but you made me change my opinion..thanks dear..
Thank you so much for watching and leaving such a nice comment! We all make mistakes, even the most experienced sewers and quilters, so we like sharing that very real part of working on a project.
Made this last night for my SurfacePro, and followed the directions exactly to scale up based on the device's measurements with keyboard attached... Turns out the keyboard adds just enough thickness to make it a wee bit snug (really struggled to get it in), but the keyboard fits in the pocket when detached! I'll likely throw together another and add 1/4" to all dimensions. Thank you for your wonderful tutorials :)
Thank you for sharing that with us. We love to hear how things worked out and this will be helpful to other people who have the same kind of device! So glad you enjoyed the tutorial and were able to make something for yourself! :) - Morgan
A great idea that I have come across for using the Frixion Pen is - when you want the lines gone . you need not iron it - just use your hair dryer ( blower) on high 0 gone instantly and does a large area quite quickly
Great tutorial Jennifer. 😀 Just for future reference if you leave your gap at the bottom of the lining fabric (for turning) it makes a much neater finish around the top of the completed bag.
Found your channel for the first time. I loved how honest you were and you made fun of yourself, the same way I would make fun of my own mistakes. We learn to forgive ourselves, right? Thank you for this video
Hi Jen - I LOVE all your videos and watch them over and over and always look forward to your new weekly ones. Can I make a suggestion? when I make bags or tablet case I attach the lining slightly different to how you demonstrated. If you attach the top of the lining to the top of the front cover and machine across and do the same for the back. Then open out and put right sides together, lining on lining and front on back and machine the whole way round leaving a gap in the bottom of the lining. When you turn it out it will look as your demo did but the hole you pulled everything through is in the bottom of the lining instead of being at the top of the bag. Don't forget, when you machine the top of the lining to the top of the back to pop the little bit of elastic in as you did. Hope you don't mind me mentioning all this - I personally just find it easier that way and also your pull through hole is hidden. I love learning all different ways of getting to the same result ha ha. Looking forward to your next weekly video. Love Linda xx
Jennifer, I love both your shop and your tutorials. Would you consider adding a few minutes on this to teach us how to add a strap so it can be worn on the shoulder? I am making 2 of these for my grandchildren and they would love it with a strap.
Unfortunately, once a video is published, we can't add to it +Susan Williams. However, we have a two different videos that show different techniques on how to add handles/straps to things that you could adjust to fit this project. Love the fabrics you used. They are gorgeous. Just a thought, have you tried doing a drop-in lining? I have found that I love using this method. No turning required and for me it is an easier way to sew the lining and outer fabric together. You can insert your elastic between the pieces. Have a great day.
So happy to hear the tutorial was easy to follow +Louellen Carden! Thank you so much for taking the time to watch and comment as well as try it for yourself!
Loved the tutorial.... You convinced me to get those frixion pins. LOL.... great tips. Have you ever used a temporary adhesive to keep your smaller projects with batting from slipping when sewing?
SO awesome that you decided to get the Frixion pen Terre Sexton! You will LOVE them! Yes, we love Roxanne's Glue Baste-It for holding projects in place- great tip!!
When inserting the elastic in the top of the bag, cut it just a bit longer and tie tie a knot in the ends. When the bag is turned the knot will be caught in the seam and stays put, this keeps it from pulling out and the knot is not even notice able in the seam. Love the video.
I made this yesterday. I strongly recommend batting be 3/4 inch smaller than the pieces. With full batting on front and back it's very bulky and doesn't lay nicely.
Do you have a video showing how to sew this project. I'm new to sewing and to actually see this tablet case being made would really help. Thanks. Really enjoy this video
Unfortunately, this is the most in-depth tutorial that we have. Please let us know if you have any questions, though! We are happy to help! Be sure to grab the free download to go along with this project: www.shabbyfabrics.com/Assets/Downloads/TabletCover_forDownload.pdf
Just a tip but if you sew the bottom edges together before turning inside out and will prevent the lining coming out every time you pull your device in and out
Love this tablet cover, very clear instructions. I also like the flowers behind you. Do you have a pattern or video for them? Thank you for all the videos.
Thanks for watching! We do have a tutorial for those flowers! Video: ruclips.net/video/pb_ivi9N1MQ/видео.html Template Download: www.shabbyfabrics.com/Assets/Downloads/3DFlowerGarland_forDownload.pdf
Can you please do a tutorial on journal covers please? I have made almost all of your items and love them! I made the fat quarter tote with a matching bible cover and zipper bag with a religious fabric. A journal cover would complete the set!
We actually have an awesome tutorial for that exact project on our blog! Here is the link: shabbyfabrics.blogspot.com/2015/05/fabric-covered-journals-simple-diy.html
So you trim the front and back down to the size of the lining. But you did not tell us the size of the lining. It looks like it is about 1 inch smaller?
On the free download from our website, the lining is cut to the device height + 1". Once the cover is quilted you will trim the front and back to the size of the lining. Happy Holidays! ❄~Leah

Hi, For the tablet cover what weight of wadding do you require, they seem to do 2oz, 4oz, 6oz and so on. Thanks. Loved making the Tote bag with the flower. In fact it was the first bag I have ever made. I only started sewing a few weeks ago, ive been learning off tutorials so not brilliant but Im trying. Ive made the make up bag, some kids pj shorts and a bag so far. Just not used to my new machine so not sure re the tension and stitches sizes I should used on these products. Any advice would be much appreciated. Tracy x
We use standard quilting batting- the loft is your preference- we like extra lofty for a nice "puffy" appearance but any standard batting works. The best way to get used to the settings on your machine is run scrap fabrics through in parallel lines using different settings each time and mark which settings were used on each line to create a kind of "cheat sheet" for your machine's setting. Here is an awesome post about machine tension and common fixes: ohyoucraftygal.blogspot.com/2013/10/sewing-lesson-10-how-to-fix-tension-on.html
Happy that you love this tutorial! The Singer Featherweight sewing machine you find them online or check out your local quilt shop! Thanks for your support and comment! - Abby
I can’t find any of the fabrics mentioned in the tutorial on Shabby Fabrics website. Went to pre cuts as suggested but they’re not there. Where was the pink singer in the tutorial purchased? I’ll look online and hopefully find one. If not, I’ll be back to beg for the one from the tutorial! What is the model number and year it was made?
Since this tutorial was produced a while back, we have sold out of all of the fabrics in this video. Jen's sewing machine is just a Singer Featherweight - she had it powdered coat pink by a friend in England, so you can probably find someone to do that too since powder coating seems to be more common now. -Michelle
@@ShabbyFabrics I’ll have to find a machine that is less valuable than my black one and have it powder coated. I think Jenny Doan did the same thing but hers was a light aqua. Thanks for your help. Donna
Just wondering if the pocket is also lined or just one piece of fabric? Thank you for this awesome tutorial!!! It's my very first time sewing and I can't wait to try this out!!!
The pocket is not lined, but you could absolutely line it if you'd like! Here is a link to the free download, just in case: www.shabbyfabrics.com/Assets/Downloads/TabletCover_forDownload.pdf
Jennifer, as always - great tutorial!! Please tell me more about the fabric flowers on the wall behind you though - DO YOU HAVE A PATTERN OR TUTORIAL YOU CAN OFFER? You get so many comments on your videos, I am sure - but I do hope I hear back from you on this question! Again - thanks for such great tutorials!! {I'll insert my question here at the bottom again} The fabric flowers on the wall - IS THERE A PATTERN OR TUTORIAL? Thanks!
Hi Debra- thanks for your thorough question :) We absolutely have a tutorial and free template for those flowers in the background! Here are the links to both: Tutorial: ruclips.net/video/pb_ivi9N1MQ/видео.html Template: www.shabbyfabrics.com/Assets/Downloads/3DFlowerGarland_forDownload.pdf
@shabbyfabrics great tutorial! just ordered a new Kindle tablet, so this is perfect! I found the pattern, thank you. I have a question. I usually use 1/4 inch seams but in the vide you mention to sew (i believe the linning or outer fabric) 1/8 inch seam. can you please confirm here? thank you!
Hello! In the video Jen sews the pocket piece at an 1/8" seam and with the front and the back piece right sides together you will sew them at a 1/4" seam. The lining will also be sewn with a 1/4" seam. - Yajaira
Where u leave the opening for turning at if u will stop with needle down, pivot and sew off project it not only reinforces that opening, I have found that it will turn in that seam allowance and it makes sewing that opening up much easier. Thought Id share that tip cause I love it when making anything that has to be turned out
We used a fusible batting - we can't remember what this one was specifically, but any fusible batting will work - you can also use regular non-fusible batting!
We have not added a zipper to this product before so we would not be able to guarantee the same outcome but it you have the right sized zipper, it may work! Let us know how it turns out! ~Leah
Thank you for watching! The download is on our Free Download's page, but I've also included a direct link here for you: www.shabbyfabrics.com/Assets/Downloads/TabletCover_forDownload.pdf - Morgan
There is a free download on our website that has all the formulas on how to figure out the measurements needed for your tablet cover. Merry Christmas! 🎄~Leah

Can someone help me understand what size fabric and padding to cut out if I want to make a sleeve with a finished size of 9.25 Height x 7.5 Width and a Depth of 2 inches. I want to make a sleeve for my half binder that I use as a planner. With a depth of two inches, I don't think the flat bottom would work and I need to make mine have a box bottom but don't know how to change the measurements. Thanks!
Hello Barbra! The formulas needed to figure out how much fabric you will need are on a free download on our website under Tablet Cover. There you will see the dimensions and be able to know the amount of fabric necessary. Merry Christmas! 🎄~Leah

Just love this project. Would love to buy a pink Singer that is shown on today’s tutorial. Where can I purchase one? Very interested!
Donna
OMG!!!!! I just LOVE your sewing machine!!!!!! Where can I get one??
Glad you like it! It's a classic - a Singer Featherweight! 💖-Michelle
I'm tempted to tie the end of elastic in a knot so that if it's threatened to pull loose it will not.
That's a good idea! - Morgan
Shabby Fabrics...thank you so much!!!
Here are the links to both:

You are so awesome! Thank you so much for taking the time to answer me :) You guys rock and I LOVE watching Jennifer!
- Yajaira
Fusible fleece will eliminate shifting while quilting
You are so right! Thanks for that tip!
Where u leave the opening for turning at if u will stop with needle down, pivot and sew off project it not only reinforces that opening, I have found that it will turn in that seam allowance and it makes sewing that opening up much easier. Thought Id share that tip cause I love it when making anything that has to be turned out
That is an amazing tip!! Thank you so much for sharing that with us and for taking the time to watch our video!
I was wondering if the batting is iron on. Please tell me. Thanks!
We used fusible batting (iron on) but it isn't required :)
I LOVE this !!!
Do u have a tutorial for the cute flowers on the wall ?
Yes! We have the flower garland tutorial here: ruclips.net/video/pb_ivi9N1MQ/видео.html

@@ShabbyFabrics THANK YOU SO MUCH ❣️
Hi, Great Tutorial!!! A question, what Iron do you use?
Great question! That is an Oliso Smart Iron - you can find them on their website :)
👍👍👍👏👏👏👏💌coul you please let me know what exactly batting did you use for this???? Thanks!!!!😘
We used a fusible batting - we can't remember what this one was specifically, but any fusible batting will work - you can also use regular non-fusible batting!
Hello. What kind of batting did you use. I am new to quilting and my piece turned out soooo bad. It shrunk when I press and everything wrinkled away
Hi Alline! You can use any batting you prefer, it really is just personal preference. Most quilters use cotton batting. - Morgan
why did I waist my time btw love how the room looks
Happy Holidays! ❄~Leah
I would like to use a zipper instead of an elastic and button. Would that be possible with the same measurements?
We have not added a zipper to this product before so we would not be able to guarantee the same outcome but it you have the right sized zipper, it may work! Let us know how it turns out! ~Leah
Thank you for sharing! Unable to get/find the pattern from your site.
Thank you for watching! The download is on our Free Download's page, but I've also included a direct link here for you: www.shabbyfabrics.com/Assets/Downloads/TabletCover_forDownload.pdf

Can I ask you. how many pieces of fabric will i need?
is it 2 linings with the batting? help please
You will need a front, back, 2 linings and a pocket fabric. 5 in total! Merry Christmas! 🎄~Leah
You didn't mention the measurements of the lining pieces. How can we determine the dimensions of the lining pieces for our devices? Thanks.
There is a free download on our website that has all the formulas on how to figure out the measurements needed for your tablet cover. Merry Christmas! 🎄~Leah
Can you tell me where I can find the pen that erases with the iron heat? I have looked everywhere and can't find them....
You can always find links to the products mentioned in our videos in the description box below the video :) Here is a link to our FriXion pens: bit.ly/FrixionPenShabbyFabrics
🎄~Leah
Can you make that same tablet cover but instead of sliding it in can it be made to where it opens up instead
You can change this pattern however you need to in order to suit your wants :)
I like the flowers on the wall how are they made
Hi Cecilia! We have a tutorial on how to make those adorable flowers! Here is the link to that video: ruclips.net/video/pb_ivi9N1MQ/видео.html
