Make sure you press your seams everyone. Gotta press press press. I finished makig this today. I got my pieces cut then didn't like the choices I made (except the outer cover and keep the inner cover but changed it make handles with it instead) and then had to cut new inner piece and new inside book covers. So extra time but so worth it because now it looks much much better. I also didn't do the button loop because it's a cover my bible journal and it's going to get pretty thick so instead I tea dyed some seam binding pieces and attached them to the inside bible front cover and then covered with some pretty scrapbook paper and that will be my closure. It'll wrap around the Bible 2x now and later probably once and then wraps around the button to close. Just an extra idea for a closure technique. Thanks for posting this. I had an idea of how to do but your video made it easier so I didn't have to figure it all out on my own. I also love love love your fabric colors and choices in the video.
Thank you so much for taking the time to leave this comment with all of these tips and tricks! So happy you created this project and share this with us!
Thank you for the wonderful tutorial and pattern! The labels for the piece were so handy, especially with the space to add my measurements. Just finished the cover for my new Bible! 😊
I just found your channel and love what I have watched so far! I think I will be making this Bible cover for my 6 yr. old daughter! She will adore the heart book mark and I can really personalize this for her! Thank you for the inspiration!! God Bless
Excellent project! When I made one, I also put light weight interfacing inside the side pockets, so I could add pen pockets to the inside of my Bible carrier ! Thanks foe another great video!
What a coincidence, I made book covers just like that 20+ years ago. But mine were made from handled grocery bags. They worked great, were they ever strong. Nice to see your design using fabric.
I love this...I can't wait to make one. I have a feeling I may be making a lot of these for friends!!! Thank you so much for your wonderful tutorials! They are so cute and fun. I just taught my granddaughter to sew over the 3 days after Christmas using your tutorial on the pillowcases. She finished two while I was there and then when I left, she and her Mom went to the store and got fabric to make 4 more pillowcases! You are an inspiration!
+Sheila Hunt that is so exciting that she finished her own pillowcases! That is the perfect tutorial for a beginner to learn basic sewing skills! Thank you so much for watching and for leaving this lovely comment!
Jen, I’ve looked at a lot of RUclips videos on Bible covers. Yours is the best one out there. I did increase the width of the inside pockets and added a zipper pocket to the back. Thank you! P.s. forgot to also say how much I appreciate the free download for this project.
Hi Dee- Around timestamp 11:20 in this tutorial, you'll pin the quilted exterior to the sewn lining/interior, then you would trim the edges. Hope this helps! -Michelle
a) I printed the "labels" to attach. However, one of the labels states BACK. I checked on the Quilted Bible Cover measurement/cutting guide and none of those say "Back". I looked at your video & paused it over the pieces you cut out & none state "Back". Is this an error on that page? b) Also, on the measurement guide, for those that are literal (like me), the "X" symbol is in place of the word "by" and not the multiplier symbol "*". I think some might get confused by this. c) Lastly: I absolutely love your videos and how you approach the project, step by step - adding tips, caution, reminders. You are wonderful. I made the Tea Towels as gifts for Christmas 2019 using fabric representing the recipient's football teams fav. The gifts were a hit! Thank you for the suggestion. Off I go to one of your other projects! Keep on teaching and sharing!
Hello! Thank you for watching! I just checked the free download on our website and I don't see a label for back. It looks like that would have been an error on the page that you have. Thank you for your feedback! I will pass this on to our video team and we are so happy that you are enjoying our videos and projects! ~Leah
I have made at least 5 Bible covers and am going to make a sixth one, thanks to this tutorial! I think it's time for me to make another one for myself! Very easy to make, Thank You!
I enjoyed making this Bible cover. It turned out to be so pretty and I'm sure the young girl who will be receiving this will love it. Thanks so much for this tutorial....... Now I'm going to make one for myself!
You're so welcome, and so glad you found it helpful and were able to make one! I'm sure that little girl will love it, and it'll be so fun to make one for yourself too! - Morgan
Cheryl, When you embroidered, did you embroider your design before you quilted or after, or did you skip the quilting altogether. I want to do the same thing but am fairly new to embroidering with my machine.
I was referred to this video from Crystalann, DIY Bible cover for Cricut Maker. It was my first sewing project with my Cricut Maker and LOVE how the Bible cover turned out! I have made four bible covers and currently working on my fifth, THANK YOU so much for this tutorial, your video also helped in the making of my Bible covers!!
Thank you so much for watching, and we're so happy to hear that your bible cover turned out beautifully and you love it! It's such a great feeling to make something that turns out well!
I am very excited to see this tutorial because I have been wanting to make one of these for my Bible. I really enjoy your videos. I like the way you teach! I can't wait to make this project!
I have watched you several times! I really appreciate your instructions! Plus you give a little extra info on why we do it and tell us on a couple videos it doesn’t have to be perfect and when it does need to be perfect and if we get a tuck we need to rip it out to fix it. Then it’s up to us if we want to fix it! I appreciate you! You make me want to really try stuff and not just collect!
Book cover/ carrier. Fab make thank you. Not a fan of the god squad myself but it's an easily adaptable make for a novel or even sketch book. Thanks for another fab make!
Thanks SO much for this tutorial! I had an idea to make a Bible book cover but wasn't sure about how to take measurements to make one. This is a lifesaver. Thanks again
I just made one for my mom for Christmas! I am a beginner and this was very easy to follow - I do have a question though - how do I put the button on? Do I have to try it with the Bible first?
Wonderful! We're glad you enjoy this project. We do suggest inserting the Bible first to measure where you'll place your button. Thanks for watching! ♥️ -Michelle
+Sherry Buras this would make a GREAT gift and could be personalized with an embroidered name or other details! So glad you love the project- thanks for watching!
Excellent! But what I like best is the used Bible. Tells a story about the owner. ;) I will have to try this. I don't enjoy zippers and most of them have that, so this will be very easy. Thank you. Happy New Year!!!
I have never made a bible cover and was very excited to find this but I have a question. Why is the lining an inch smaller than the outer fabric. I made mine yesterday and had to cut the outer fabric down to match the lining size. What did I do wrong?
We're happy you enjoy this project! You can use the Free Download to help discern the dimensions you'll need: www.shabbyfabrics.com/free-downloads-and-video/253/how-to-make-a-quilted-bible-cover Hope this helps! -Michelle
Glad you enjoyed this project! Thanks for watching! For this project, we have two downloads available on our Free Downloads page under "Bible Cover" - the first download is blank, for you to fill in your own measurements for your project. The second download is a sample, already filled out so you'll understand how to fill in the blank download with your measurements. Just go to our Free Downloads page on ShabbyFabrics .com www.shabbyfabrics.com/Free-Downloads.aspx and To locate a specific video project, use the "Find" feature on your browser: On a PC click: Ctrl + F On a Mac click: Cmd + F Then type in the name of the project ("Bible Cover") and press Enter. Hope this helps!! -Michelle
I am a new subscriber! You keep mentioning your "friction pens" and I would like to know where to get them... I searched Joann's and came up empty. I just can't wait to get started on the projects I have downloaded. I will let you know how they turned out! Thanks in advance, Kathy
Hi Kathy! Welcome! Thanks for subscribing! Can't wait to see your projects! We sell Frixion pens in our shop. Here is the link for that: www.shabbyfabrics.com/Frixion-Clicker-Pen-2-Pack-7mm-Black-P29462.aspx
I bought an extra-large bible (large print) and I couldn't find a cover that would fit on the market. Then I searched on YT and, of course, you had a tutorial. Thank you so much!!!! I added a pen pocket and some decorations to the front as well. God bless!!!!!
Hello Andrea! In the free download, where you can find all the formula's to make the correct size cover, there is a not on the outer fabric that says you'll be trimming it to match the lining once it is quilted! Hope that helps! Merry Christmas! 🎄~Leah
Hi Jennifer ~ great video. I just made one for my friend. I will post a pic once I sew the button on. Was I suppose to sew this on BEFORE I completed it ?? Newbie to quilting/sewing but I'll figure it out. I didn't do the bookmark. On to my next project ~ Magic Pillowcase !! :D
+Cynthia DesLauriers you definitely sew the button on at the end. Can't wait to see a photo of your completed project! You will LOVE making the Magic Pillowcase!
I made this Bible cover. The first one was a little too small, so I added to the measurements and the second one came out great. I noticed my Bible sort of flopping around and determined it needed something to hold it closed. I made a 3-inch wide band to go around it, fastening it with Kam snaps. I’m very satisfied with it now! Thank you for this tutorial.
Really like this tutorial! I can think of a few friends for whom I would like to make this Bible cover. I could not locate the page/site where you have listed size, dimensions and how to determine pattern for any given Bible size. Thank you for your clear instructional videos. You make it easy for a newbie to sewing, like myself, to learn how to sew projects that I never considered I could make.
+susie czellar so happy you liked the video! Here is the link to the Bible cover dimensions/cutting guide: www.shabbyfabrics.com/Assets/Downloads/QuiltedBibleCover_forDownload.pdf
To get any of our free downloads you can click the link in the description box that says "Free Download" and then scroll until you find what you're looking for! Here is the direct link to this free download, though: www.shabbyfabrics.com/Assets/Downloads/QuiltedBibleCover_ForDownload.pdf
I couldn't find the measurements page by going to Shabby Fabrics site, either. Then I looked in the links below this video and - voila! - there it was. Thank goodness. If the link wasn't there, I'd have been lost.
I made the bag it looks great. Thank you again for answering my question so fast. Would love to send you a picture of it. I did add a pin holder to the inside.
Hi Suzy! You can use the Pellon 950F ShirTailor Fusible Interfacing Non-woven: www.shabbyfabrics.com/Pellon-950F-ShirTailor-Fusible-Interfacing-Non-woven-P85645.aspx Thank you for watching! - Sophie
That would be a good idea! We did not choose to add a zipper to our cover; however, I have passed this on to our design team. You may be able to search RUclips to find a bible cover tutorial that shows how to add a zipper. If you have any further questions please let me know as I am always happy to help! -Kyla
this definitely looks like something i must try :D i just have one question - i read in the downloaded file that the outer fabric should be 2''' longer and wider than the Bilbe, whereas the lining only 1''' - now as a sewing beginner who just started to sew like 6 weeks ago - i wondered why the difference of the 1''?
+Helen Standford this is to make up for the space created when the Bible opens and closes. The spine takes up more space on the outside so there needs to be extra fabric on the outside to account for that! This isn't needed on the inside because there isn't as much stretching or give needed for the inner portion for opening and closing! Hopefully that helps clear up your question!
+Shabby Fabrics thank you so much, yes, that helps :) + I just noticed the hint to *trim the outer fabric to match the lining after it's quilted, i had overlooked that before. very much looking forward to making this
What is the name of the hearts fabric? I would LOVE to buy some of that same fabric for bible covers for the girls at my church! Thank you so much for the tutorial!
Unfortunately, we sold out of that collection a couple of years ago. However, we have this really cute collection that would make adorable bible covers! It's called Love Letters by Riley Blake: www.shabbyfabrics.com/Riley-Blake-Designs/Love-Letters.aspx - Morgan
Oh my word you are great! I have also been try to do another one and I just can’t figure this out. Can you also look up - Hobonichi Style Bible cover and make a tutorial of This one.
Thanks for watching, Staci! We can certainly add that to a list of tutorials to make for the future. We appreciate your suggestions! Keep them coming. ;)
I love how you always come through with brilliant sewing projects when I needed one although I might do this to my journal. Do you have any tutorial on sewing lace to fabric(i.e. crocheted lace).
Thank you. Looking forward to using this tutorial to make myself a bible cover. I have a non-sewing question. Your ring is beautiful. Is it a fully rounded dome?
Thank you for watching! In the video, Jen's ring has twisted around so you are only seeing the underside of the inset band that she wears! Stay safe and happy sewing! ~Leah
Thank You !!! Loved making these ,and God Bless you all at Shabby Fabrics ;)
We're glad you enjoy this project. Thanks for watching!! -Michelle
Make sure you press your seams everyone. Gotta press press press. I finished makig this today. I got my pieces cut then didn't like the choices I made (except the outer cover and keep the inner cover but changed it make handles with it instead) and then had to cut new inner piece and new inside book covers. Hello beautiful
One question: what about the extra length of the quilted outside vs the smaller lining? When do you trim them to match?
Hi Dee- Around timestamp 11:20 in this tutorial, you'll pin the quilted exterior to the sewn lining/interior, then you would trim the edges. Hope this helps! -Michelle
This was very helpful.
So glad to hear it! Thank you so much for watching and let us know if you make these!
Love this..its so easy!! My question for you or anyone else, can this be made with the exterior in vinyl??
Hi Charlotte - You can definitely use a vinyl on the exterior, but just know that it may be a bit harder to turn through.

I have never made a bible cover and was very excited to find this but I have a question. Why is the lining an inch smaller than the outer fabric. I made mine yesterday and had to cut the outer fabric down to match the lining size. What did I do wrong?
There is a note on the outer fabric box of the download that says to trim the lining to match the outer fabric AFTER quilting. ~Leah🙃

Love this tutorial but does anyone have suggestions on how to add a zipper closure
That's a great question! We haven't added one to this project, but maybe another viewer has and could share some tips! - Morgan
Thank you so much for the tutorial! Why is the outer fabric 1" wider and taller than the lining fabric?
Hello Andrea! In the free download, where you can find all the formula's to make the correct size cover, there is a not on the outer fabric that says you'll be trimming it to match the lining once it is quilted! Hope that helps! Merry Christmas! 🎄~Leah
@@ShabbyFabrics Thank you so much for clarifying!!
Thank you so much. I've always wanted a Bible cover, this will come in handy for the huge Study Bible my pastor published, Jimmy Swaggart. God Bless
So glad this will be helpful! We'd love to see pictures when you're finished with the project. :)
Hello Nancy
Hi Jennifer ~ great video. I just made one for my friend. I will post a pic once I sew the button on. Was I suppose to sew this on BEFORE I completed it ?? Newbie to quilting/sewing but I'll figure it out. I didn't do the bookmark. On to my next project ~ Magic Pillowcase !! :D
+Cynthia DesLauriers you definitely sew the button on at the end. Can't wait to see a photo of your completed project! You will LOVE making the Magic Pillowcase!
+Shabby Fabrics I ended up sending the pics to Shabby Fabrics on Facebook.
Fantastic tut and beautiful fabric, Happy New Year x
+Christine Thomas thank you so much for watching! Happy New Year to you too!
Kam snaps would definitely be a great addition to this project! We're so glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for your comment! -Michelle
Great video. Could you please provide pointers on how to add the button?
Of course! We would be more than happy to help. What kind of questions do you have regarding this? - Yajaira
@@ShabbyFabrics, I’m a beginner, so I’d need to know the basics of adding the button. I’m going to secure it by hand sewing and not with my machine.
@@proverbs31knitting25 snaps are simple too.
YEAH!!!!!! I DIDN'T KNOW. YEAH!!!!! THANK YOU!!!! YEAH!!!! YOU ARE THE BOMB DIGGITY!!!! YEAH!!!!
Thank you for watching! Merry Christmas Suesann! 🎄~Leah
Thank you for this tutorial! I just bought a new bible and I'm so excited to cover it!
Hi Dina! Thank you for watching! What perfect timing! Stay safe and happy sewing! ~Leah
how do I get the measurements? can't find the download you mentioned in the tutorial. this is a great tutorial and easy to understand. thank you
To get any of our free downloads you can click the link in the description box that says "Free Download" and then scroll until you find what you're looking for!
Great
We are so happy you enjoy this fun project! -Kristen
I made the bag it looks great. Thank you again for answering my question so fast. Would love to send you a picture of it. I did add a pin holder to the inside.
That's awesome! You can share a photo with us on our Facebook page!
Hello my friend
Thank you for a wonderful project. May I ask what type of fusible interfacing you use on this project. Thank you 🙏
Hi Suzy! You can use the Pellon 950F ShirTailor Fusible Interfacing Non-woven: www.shabbyfabrics.com/Pellon-950F-ShirTailor-Fusible-Interfacing-Non-woven-P85645.aspx
Thank you for watching! - Sophie
@@ShabbyFabrics Thank you so much.
Thank you. I whould like to maje a cover with zipper all around can you make a tutorial or a link to one? Thank you
That would be a good idea!
+Shabby Fabrics thank you so much, yes, that helps :) + I just noticed the hint to *trim the outer fabric to match the lining after it's quilted, i had overlooked that before. very much looking forward to making this
Can’t wait to do this. I have an embroidery machine and will add something pretty on the front. Love your tutorials!
So glad you like it! Let us know how yours turn out! - Morgan
It's called Love Letters by Riley Blake: www.shabbyfabrics.com/Riley-Blake-Designs/Love-Letters.aspx

Did you mention the seam allowance size for stitching front and back together?
Thanks for watching Diane! The seam allowance for stitching the front and back together is 1/4".
Beautiful. Could you please teach us to make a Bible cover with a zipper?
That's a great idea! We'll pass your suggestion along! -Michelle
Keep them coming. ;)
Just checking back in. Lol. Can’t wait till you get to making this one. I’ve seen other people make it but I’m sure your will be the best. Thank you.
I never comment on videos but I must tell you that this was so easy to follow and came out great! Thank you.
We're happy to hear that you enjoyed this tutorial. Thank you for watching!! 💖 -Michelle
I love how you always come through with brilliant sewing projects when I needed one although I might do this to my journal. Do you have any tutorial on sewing lace to fabric(i.e. crocheted lace).
Unfortunately, we don't have any tutorials involving lace! So happy to hear you'll be creating one of these covers for your journal :)
I only have cotton batting and medium fusible interfacing. Will this be ok?
Cotton batting will work for this project!
Wow! super 🇳🇵🇳🇵🇳🇵🇳🇵
Glad you enjoy it!! Thanks for watching!! -Michelle
~Leah
