Friends, I am SO excited to be JUMPING back into the Cube Escape series today with Arles and The Lake! I had so much fun playing and theorizing the last time we played Seasons. I can tell this game has layers of lore that I need to figure out. There’s A LOT going on here to be theorized about. So cast out those fishing lines and settle in for today's video!

Rust Lake Hotel is easily my favorite game in existence so I'm all for Matt continuing this series!
You like barely scratched the surface of the story. That's why it's not coming together yet. Just believe me, it is worth playing through. I'm honestly shocked that none of the big channels cover this series yet. It's just so good.
Please do the whole series. It's so insane but so fascinating. Plus it seems that MatPat loves it as well!!! All the more reason to play the whole thing.

It took him longer to do the flower puzzle than it took him to complete the lake escape. (or at lease felt like it).

@@Kai-pv2lj Pretty sure he should do Samsara after Roots. While the original Flash version was a standalone game, they welded it on to the Rusty Lake lore with the Steam release.
So at 19:24 you ask what an absinthe spoon is used for. In the Victorian era (and probably before and after) you would place the spoon on top of the glass and then a sugar cube on top of that, then pour the absinthe on the sugarcube so it filtered through the sugar and became sweeter
This is super late, but another fun and elaborate way some people prepared absinthe (presumably for stronger variants, or if you just wanted a weaker version, or just because it looks fancier) would be using a water dripper! It's basically a big glass container with a tap on it, like you still see today, which you'd place the glass under so that the water would drip onto the cube and into the glass. You can also find absinthe glasses which have a little thing at the bottom, sometimes just a marker in the glass and sometimes a bulb or similar thing, which measures how much absinthe you should pour into the glass. They look really cool and you can see how people would sit around them waiting for their drink to finish :)

These games are some of my absolute favorites of all time. The story telling is totally unmatched and the eerie yet peaceful nature gives me chills every time. Every single game that the studio makes is absolutely beautiful
I adore them. They creep me the fudge out but they aren't unnessicary in how they do it.

Almost every single one of these literal (nearly) 2000 comments are urging Mat to continue playing these games and I hope to high heavens he really listens because especially if he’s going chronologically ROOTS is my ultimate favorite and I am dying to see him play that - especially since it’s the most in-depth story driven and high-quality game that they currently has and it’s so well involved, I can just TELL he’ll just have the most fun with it

@@MaccyCheezeAs sad as it is, it makes sense. GTLive uploads a video about once per 3 days. Just Cube Escape could easily be 3 weeks of the channel dedicated solely to Rusty Lake. The series gets less views than other videos, and additionally if you upload only one type of content for too long, the RUclips algorithm can falsely narrow your channel into being about one thing, which means it will recommend your channel to fewer people, a fact MatPat has brought up before. Our best bet is for him to play the majority Cube Escape on his own time and then maybe Hotel, Roots, Samsara, etc. on the channel (spaced out by a few weeks for the algorithm’s pleasure). We do know he plays thing off stream a lot for theories, so I wouldn’t call it off yet.
For The Lake: if you use the magnet a THIRD time, you get a second locked box that requires you to put in a different code from the one that gives you the blue gemstone. Basically, it says at the top “remember the seasons” and obviously means that you have to look for a clue not in this game, but in the one first released with it, Cube Escape: Seasons, and the code comes from Summer 1971 when you look into the telescope to see the numbers 1487 to unlock the safe and get the shrimp, and using that code will give you a GREEN gemstone as well as a message at the top: CU-S TV 2-5-6-4-1, which you can then use in Fall 1971 of Cube Escape: Seasons by entering the numbers into the TV, resulting in a video of Laura (The Woman and protagonist of both Seasons and The Lake) taking a picture with a camera and the achievement “Young Laura”. The green gemstone, if used instead of the blue one (still in the same spot), will give you the achievement “The Pentagon” and when you face the Corrupted Soul (the black humanoid entity that kills you at the lake canonically) it will be destroyed by the force of the pentagon and leave a black cube behind that will do nothing but take you to the end of the game after clicked. Spider-Man 2099 wouldn’t be happy with this change of events, but the point of Cube Escape is to change your past, as seen with Seasons and Birthday, so The Pentagon is just leading you to the good ending.
Please do continue, I'm enjoying this kind of a lot and the series only gets better from here lmao.

I love the cube escape/rusty lake series and I really, really, REALLY want to see your reactions to some of the later games, like Rusty Lake Hotel, and Rusty Lake Paradise. I have never wanted anything more from this channel than I want this.

PLLEEEAAASE don't give up making play through/reaction vids for these! Cube Escape/Rusty Lake gets crazy once you get into the games you pay for! (rusty lake part of the series). while I would LOVE to see a theory on this, I would also love to see your initial reactions to the crazy stuff that happens! also, the rusty lake games are a lot more popular than cube escape, so the bad performance on vids will most likely go up with those

I am absolutely begging the Gtlive guys to keep playing this series. I see it's underperforming, but man they barely scratched the surface of what's interesting about this series. I grew up with Rusty Lake, merging my two childhood interests of Rusty Lake and GT would make my inner child explode with joy. I really really hope you continue streaming these! I understand it’s a lot of games to get through, but even if you can’t play them all, I sincerely hope you do research behind the scenes, as what you are seeing right now is a very small piece of a much larger picture. I’ve been waiting 7 years for you to pick up the game, and it’s been amazing to see you enjoying its gameplay and surreal tone, and I think you would enjoy theorizing about it even more! The best way I can describe why the lore is special is that it feels it was designed as a story first, with meticulous attention to themes (esp. of mental illness imo) and world building, whereas other indie horror games and FNAF by the 3rd installment felt like they were including cryptic lore just to say they had cryptic lore (but not to tell a story). I just really hope you give this a chance, and though I know that the first video you correctly speak to how hard it is to jump into theorizing, there are great resources to catch you up to speed (videos and wiki fandoms) and a lack of big theorists shedding light on this gem, so there’s definitely room to innovate and theorize.
I really hope MatPat continues this series! ‘Rusty Lake’ puzzle games are one of, if not my favorite puzzle games, and there are some mysterious things that happen throughput the game. I would love to see MatPat’s reaction to all of them.

I was actually someone who got Reddit specifically to recommend this game because it's one of my special interests! It means a lot to watch MatPat and Ash play it, especially because me and other fans know there's so much lore to find out that's right up Matpat's alley! All the Cube Escape games (except Paradox) were playable online as Flash games. That’s actually how I discovered the series.
Also, I wasn’t watching the whole time so I don’t know if you did, but if you keep fishing with the magnet you’ll get another lockbox which unlocks with the code from _Seasons_ Summer, giving you an Emerald which you can use in place of the Diamond, repelling the Corrupted Soul and changing your Fate, giving you the second ending.
Many of the games have multiple endings.
Watching MatPat work on that sunflower puzzle was so soothing and therapeutic for some reason

Rusty Lake is one of my favourite series of puzzle games. Please continue it Mat it is worth the deep dive and story it provides, each game get's better and better as well as crazier.

There are three separate games that are also part of the story caller rusty lake paradise roots and hotel as well as cube escape paradox if you want to play the entire story line
Also Hotel, Samsara Room, The White Door, and The Past Within. But those three are the best.
