Whenever I die in a game I always go back and re-read notes so that my character has the knowledge of it but truthfully the game never actually has it inputted in the game that your character remembers what they read. If the character reads the safe numbers to open a lock it never matters as long as the player actually knows it: but not this game. It tends to ruin the plot and point of the game when players decided to skip all the bad ends and go straight to the bottom right away.

      @bg8436 2 года назад +11

      Blockchain is a way of structuring data and encrypting it that both records each transaction while confirming each transaction through a distributed network of those that have had past transactions with that data. The reason for the big push for it is it makes it harder for hackers to hide their tracks since they can't alter the data in the other computers in the distributed network. So it can be a major step up in security even if it isn't fool proof.
      Where NFTs are a speculator scam like commemorative plates/coins, variant comic covers, or any other product that you can convince someone that it will increase in price if you hold onto it long enough that uses blockchain. So you can make a lot of money on it right now, but sooner or later it's going to bottom out and be worthless since it is only as valuable as people think it is. Because at the end of the day it's a piece of data saying you own another piece of data which you have to convince someone else to buy off of you before you can turn it into currency.
      And people worry about blockchain since right now since it can be extremely CPU intensive to produce the original blockchain, so it can be fairly energy intensive. But there has been strides in making it easier to make those blockchains that are less energy intensive since it still is a fairly new technology.
      So blockchain is pretty much here to stay since all major companies want the security that it can provide financial transactions. Where NFTs are only going to be a round until enough people get burned by it.

      The biggest argument is the environmental impact. And it's not just costly, it's MASSIVE
      I'm talking extra -countries- worth of powerusage, a MASSIVE cost. It's genuinely a huge threat, I'd look up the environmental impact for the most important bit
      But they're also scams usually, and "fake" currency on an unregulated market, so anyone can be ruined when they buy into it, and it can fund illegal activity

    • @Ithiryn
      @Ithiryn 2 года назад +5

      @@bg8436 See, the thing with the blockchain confirming and recording each transaction... Wouldn't that mean in theory the amount of energy needed to even read it would grow exponentially and eventually reach a point where the processing power required to read a specific chain increases at a rate faster than technology can progress to mitigate? Or am I completely misunderstanding the mechanics of that? Visually I was under the impression that it was like taking a box and putting that box in a bigger box, and then putting that box into a bigger box over and over each time something interacts with the "item", leading me to believe you'd either be paying with exponentially growing processing requirements, memory usage, or both like how a program/game that is continuously built upon with updates eventually starts to break as more layers are added.

    HIGHLY RECOMMEND MirrorMat to skim a walkthrough or just some research on this game so this doesn't turn into a 12 minutes thing again. This game can be complicated.

      For example: fun time with Ayumi
      on that stream, Mirror Mat is doing research and giving hint when Matpat ask for them. But also, Matpat discovered the Lore Ending by himself which is a secret ending that hasn't been shared on the internet yet.
      Warm and solid advice, but no need to worry too much.

      the moral question is, do you want them to watch walkthroughs of this game to skip to the true ending? or do you want them to completely explore the game to 100%, thereby killing LOTS of lilies in the process...

      He did really well actually! And I wasn't going to say anything initially. But these livestreams are short and I don't want Mat to get frustrated instead of having fun. I have a feeling he's gonna love this game.
      So if MirrorMat knows the general idea he could give small hints so Mat doesn't get too stuck.
      But Hey! That's just a RECOMMENDATION! A General Recommendation! Thanks for reading!

      It's fine. One of the best strategies to play this game is to gather as much you can before descend, and then unlock the previous endings afterwards now that you can more easily locate the different rope options. Also, seeing Matpat's strong reaction to the vampire vine, you know it's going to be a good let's play.

    Another big problem with NFTs is that often it's not the actual art that's on the blockchain, just a link to it, and at anytime someone can change what content that link actually directs too and that's currently one of the big scams happening in NFT markets.

But it seems they are just being abused for big companies and smart artists who know how to dup people into paying something for nothing.

    11:28 Currently the problem is convincing people that there isn't a way to get this for free. For instance I can own a copy and sell this copy to a place like The Pirate Bay, by copying the film, allowing myself to earn money, and allowing people to watch this stuff for free. This would then just lead to trade into supposedly illegal channels to be more frequent, because people are against the idea of having to own it to view it. This goes back to me copy pasting, screenshoting, or using the snipping tool, to screen record the episode, and upload that screen recording to whatever website I wanted, allowing people to view this video, under my name. I myself don't need to make money off licensing, just distribution. I might not be able to earn ad revenue, but I could distribute it nonetheless. The decentralized blockchain currently is a concept with as many as cheddar or Swiss Cheese. And you can't really govern the internet, because from what I see it, if one country makes a law, I change my country to a country that doesn't have this law and I can do business again. The internet would need an international effort to govern a decentralized network, or things can get out of hand, and piracy can in a function be legalized.

    • @boredfangerrude
      @boredfangerrude 2 года назад

      Ironically, if there is an international effort to govern the internet, it's still decentralized so you don't lose that. The issue is that countries have wildly different ideas on what should and shouldn't be allowed on the internet. China, Japan and Korea shouldn't get a say because of how they don't understand the internet at all.

    • @S.B.C-Pixi
      @S.B.C-Pixi 2 года назад

      @@boredfangerrude It's not that they shouldn't have a say, but they should be brought into a meeting to discuss how the internet and how to govern the internet rather than control it, but that requires these countries to recognize a lot about what it means to work together and with the people, which some countries might not know how to do.

    The truth about NFT's is that you do not own what are attached to them. Any artwork, images, videos, what have you is not owned by you. You do not own the license to them. A lot of times the person or entity making the NFT does not even own rights to the artwork used. Many artists have had their work stolen to be used in an NFT. What you really own in an NFT is the code that says that this in an original. It is like buying a Picaso and the only thing you own is the piece of paper that says this is an authentic Picaso.

  • @Omegapork
    @Omegapork 2 года назад +5

    There are more reasons than I can count explaining why I personally believe NFTs and their associated schemes are unessicary, and... well.. stupid.
    One that I don't see mentioned often is just how ridiculous the comparison between having and original painting from a famous artist, and having an NFT is. I'll try to keep my reasoning short.
    The painting is a physical object with history. If I were to buy an original Picasso, it would be painted BY PICASSO. Hundreds of hours would have been put into crafting it, and it's exclusivity would hold actual weight. It's not like he'll come back from the dead and make another painting.
    NFTs on the other hand, are jpegs. They can be "minted" at any time, in any quantity. Each is indistinguishable from the last, only identifiable by the unique ID applied to them. And because of the decentralized nature of the blockchain, the jpeg you "own" will only exist as long as the server it's stored on is functional. Essentially, you don't own the image. You own a receipt for the image that tells a database that you own an image, which may cease to exist at any time.
    It's stupid.
