The real horror of this game is how bad Andy’s friends are. First they asked him if he wants to commit cannibalism and then they steal the key to his house, and im just at the start
Looking at what the actual game was supposed to be, Andy was offered to eat a member of his species, got the keys to his house stolen by his friends, was forced to do games to get them back, and was locked in the barn after showing a fear of the dark with a creepy squatter pumpkin.
things Matt may have missed: -when pumpkin pete catches you, yes the words 'save me' appear, but so do the words 'save us'.So it's not just one person asking you to save them. -in the axe murder scene, the man with the axe is the one saying 'You killed them!" and "stop lying to me", the man on the ground never said anything about his attacker killing anyone.
That last one is actually explained in the theory video. The man with the ax, Thomas Eastwood (the host for Andy's character), is actually being forced the by the Evil Entity (Peter the Pumpkin's real form) into murdering his own family and the man on the ground Arthur (Clous the Clock's host) is his friend whom he's also being forced to murder against his will. Just saying, as MatPat says, a "reluctant follower".
MatPat's playthrough of this game had so many things in it that I've never seen on any other playthrough of this game before! Interesting... Very interesting indeed.

Funnily enough, cranberries do grow on vines (and aren't cultivated in bogs these days). While we're at it, "olive grove" is the usual term but "orchard" and "plantation" are out there, too.
What’s wild about this game is that every play through I’ve seen has had a different variation of events happen, some people get the dead body in the lake, some get the weirdness with the dog, some get the freak out with melody, and some don’t even get the “deceased” with claus.
Intentionally failing the minigames give you lore. edit: If you fail in the fishing game, you see your son if you fail the melody game, you see your daughter if you fail the apple game, you see your wife edit: you already failed the eye spy and tag games, and got their cutscenes.
@@SuperFanatic22731 Clouse the broken clock represents the man you trusted to watch your kids. He was too late to save them, he was too late to help you, he was too late to escape you. Pete the pumpkin is the demon that watched you, and egged you on to "avenge" your son.
I love that these people aren't even your friends, they're just complete strangers that took your keys and told you to do stuff for them if you want to get them back (and then betray you by locking you up in their barn with a crazed pumpkin instead of just giving you your keys back)
I literally just screamed "yes" when I saw this upload cuz I've been wishing and waiting for you to cover this game!!! Currently obsessed with it! Can't wait to see the next chapters!
I’ve put a lot of time into solving this cool story’s puzzles and secrets. I’ve translated a lot of he ciphers and even spent an hour decoding binary. The main idea we can get so far from this story (including elements from solved puzzles) is that this poor family delt with a traumatic event that ultimately tore them apart. Father and game creator Thomas East wood and his wife Kamryn Eastwood had two children the oldest being Isabella and her little brother Louis. One night Isabelle Louis and someone else went out on a row boat in the lake, and louis feel overboard and went missing. Thomas starts losing it, taking the incident out on isabella to the point the parents separate. We know Kamryn died in the fire that destroyed the house, as for isabella i’m not 100% sure what she’s got going on. Kamryn’s potential love interest after Thomas leaves is Arthur, who is murdered by Thomas. ( who is also his best friend) We don’t completely know if Louis is dead or not, as in decoded messages “I don’t blame her” is repeated in response to Thomas blaming isabelle for the accident. We also don’t know who else was on the boat when Louis went missing. However we do know that someone knows what Thomas has done, as in the final decoded message at the end of the game is Edit 2: (i wrote it incorrectly lol) “Thomas, don’t ask for help nobody can save you now” All in all i love this series to death and would love if you covered some of these elements or if you can help me with the two clues I haven’t been able to solve! Edit 1: format change :] Edit 3: Hello! I have joined the official discord for this game, and found the answers to a lot of the secrets I wasn’t 100% sure of so let me clear some things up. (MAJIOR SPOILERS) The large section of binary was cut off, the entire message reads “ She was so scared from what happened she couldn’t tell us the truth. It wasn’t her fault” There were also a few clues i missed/glossed over. In another of the secret end screens a Cesar cipher reads “Thomas Eastwood got us all trapped in here” The only other cipher i missed was a translation of “Louis Eastwood” under his missing poster in a secret frame Another Cipher langue appears as well that I didn’t catch, one saying “please save us” and the other “yet” repeatedly. The QR code leads the the website to where you can play the game for yourself. As well as all the information about the creators and link to the Discord, all the information presented has been confirmed in a Google Document in the Discord.
I think it’s safe to say that Isabella is dead too from the fire, considering her soul (or whatever it is) is inside the game with everyone else and also it’s pretty unlikely she survived the fire
ALSO it’s theorized that the someone else is the demon/manifestation that posses Arthur at the end, and that also caused Isabella to freeze and watch her brother drown (or fake drown) at the lake (:
Just since you seem to know most of the secrets so far, I'm curious if you saw the face on the right of the blue screen of death, closest feeling I've had to my skin crawling
The scissors could easily just be for her hairstyle. She used the scissors to "cut" and "style" her hair in the way it is. That was my immediate reaction.
@@daleharden1749 is her attraction makeover themed? I wasn't aware of that and was wracking my brain about the hairdresser theme for the shirt. I definitely noticed immediately that the shirt has a salon chair, a hairspray tag line, and that those scissors on the sleeve are hair cutting shears.
Maybe it was the wife when she died in the fire, slowly burning to death and having smoke fill her lungs, her flesh boiling off of her now scorching soon-to-be corpse
My favorite thing about this game is the fact that if it didn’t have a story behind it it would be a story about how some terrible friends took Andy’s keys, left them in the barn, forced him into doing their chores, and then trapped him lmao
I love that Appi is just "OH BOI my friends pushed me into this weird dark building because they stole my key, I guess I'm just gonna not call them assholes because I'm family friendly "
Mat Pat should do a 3 channel collab on Courage the cowardly dog. Game can be on the "cancelled" courage game. Film on the show. And food can test if Muriel vinegar recipes would be any good.
yes and no, FNAF is supposed to be scary and its jump scares are quite fast moving which gets your heart beating but The Walten files is unsettling, it has distorted faces and audio that you can only just make out, its a slow burn, it makes you see what’s has happened by keeping the scene there just for the right amount of time and that’s what makes it so scary. FNAF is similar but The Walten files is more disturbing
but this game is following the idea of the unsettling slow burn type of content, but it still is similar to FNAF but falls into the Walten files a bit more
@@granolanbar9892 So fnaf has basically become the base of animatronic horror, 80's horror resturant, and dark heavy lore for video games and Walten Files?

@@niksooxyz thanks! I kinda just figured that out because we had lost it several years ago when I put it in my sister's toy Chest. However, unlucky for her -since it was *her* 3DS originally-, it had *my* favorite 3DS game in it, "Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon" so yeah.
Offscreen Andy finally gets his keys, his groceries sat on the doorstep so long everything went bad. He now has a carton of yogurt, potatoes are growing out of the bags...
I was waited with bated breath for Matt to play this game! I can sense the theory already. One thing a lot of people don't notice is the face on the right during the "blue screen" when you try to start the file with 8 bonus stickers. ALSO, I'm starting to think that Peter the Pumpkin is a police officer/sheriff of some sort, because the broadcast during the fishing minigame mentions the Pumpkin County Sheriff's Office.
The Pumpkin County and Peter Pumpkin thing could also be a coincidence, or the dark entity took the shape of a pumpkin because of the towns name? I don’t know man this game is wild Edit: also man your vision must be AMAZING if you were able to see that face, it took me a while to even realize there was something there, let alone a face
@@jadedplacebo24 I actually was thinking that as well after MatPat let him get all the pumpkins and there were those weird images of it. Now I'm not sure. Maybe a mixture of both? It could be a coincidence that they live in Pumpkin County. Or maybe there's a bigger picture. We'll just have to wait and see in the next update! Either way, I'm intrigued.
@@screenedat0m It would be crazy if there was something more to shape of the entity correlating to the name of the county. Like, maybe there's something wrong with the entire county and the entity is the cause of it. That, or it's just a massive coincidence.
Feels like Thomas made a deal with some creature or entity to make his game either more successful, or make his character feel more alive. Alternatively it also seems like this eyeless entity was preying on Thomas, making him go insane and going through great lengths to fix his own game, unknowingly killing his friends and/or co-workers. Maybe the entity was controlling him? Thomas seemed confused and afraid when he killed the other guy (I forgot their name), almost as if he wasn't aware of what he was doing. Or maybe Thomas thought his friends were disappearing and the other guy was to blame, and that's why he killed him. Idk, just some thoughts
Hey Matpat! There are some hidden easter eggs and lore if you try to say "no" or try to break out of the mini games! I wont say all of them, but new dialogue appears depending on who's game you play first, and strange things happen if you try to say "no" or try to break the mini games! (Also each door in the barn gives a different secret ending screen) Like in the fishing game. Tell him "no" for a secret surprise. And spoilers for this! If you drag the body at the bottom of the lake across the riverbed after being forced into the game, you get a creepy message that says "you know exactly what you did" with faded binary just below 01001011 01100001 01101101 01110010 01111001 01101110 I went and translated the binary and it came out as "Kamryn" So here's a theory for ya to add to this mystery! Who exactly is Kamryn, and what does she have to contribute to the story of the game? Also, something different happens if you bring the body back to the dock ;)
Fair enough! Though that does also lead to the question, what was it that she did if that line was meant for her? "You know exactly what you did [Kamryn]" Did she do something to cause the son's "disappearance" since that line is tied to the body in the riverbed? Is that why she was trying to convince her daughter that it wasn't her fault that her brother never came up from the water? Or was she really cheating on her husband with his best friend since it's accusing her of doing something she knew she shouldn't have? There's another string of binary hidden away in here that im trying to decipher, hopefully we can find another interesting clue in there xD
@@tsukiminrai5880 Most likely the cheating part, but you do bring up a good point. Perhaps she’s the one who gave the kids permission to go on the lake by themselves, which the Dad didn’t want, and thus inadvertently caused the little boys death
Definitely something he should check out for a GT episode for the lore like he said he might. For the "OH NO!" screen, maybe the audio is Andy is eating apples and that's what the creepy factor is. The face thing is like the pumpkin and there's a glitch at the end of the screen when the man in the orange turns red then the second before it ends,, gets iconic GREEN EYES. Hmm Andy is red with green eyes too...

Fun facts: Felix's minigame is fishing (cannibalism?) Melody's song is "twinkle twinkle little star"(in which she is a moon) there's a clock on Claus' minigame for no reason

“The time was supposed to be happy. But she could feel her skin peeling off” “I just wanted to see my family again.I knew what I was doing was risky.I didn’t want it to turn out this way.” “Free us Save us Help us”
20:13, the text under the error thing said "The time was supposed to be happy, but she could feel her skin peeling off" 23:44, I watched someone else play this and they got another catch before the mini game ended and another glitch happened that had more story line. Also the person was playing in high quality, so maybe that's why? 31:35, the person I watched went up and not to the right, when they went up they got a different cut screen type thing instead of the video tape that Matpat got. 42:06, the person I saw play failed the first game and got a pretty interesting cut screen. 54:45, nvm matpat got the odd cut screen when he restated it. 56:19, the glitch texts unscrambled says "Do not be afraid Thomas, (and then something I can't read)" I am very excited to watch the game theory for this game!😁
18:11 unless your talking about cherry tomatoes (that grow on vines) no cherry's don't grow on vines, they come from a tree so yes it would be a cherry Orchard (though bananas also grow on trees but get called a plantation not a orchard so ?)
I grew up on a farm, delt with fruit trees frequently. We had cherry trees and a few sour cherry bushes (90% pit) Funny thing, in the 1930s or1940s I had a family member who would splice random fruit tree cuttings together. Eventually, we had several trees with pear, apple, peach, and apricot branches. When I was born, the trees had stopped producing fruit...but we can still find some trees on the property that have 3 or 4 different type of branches (but no fruit)
Alright, having watched other playthroughs of this game, I thought the movement speed wasn't quite right. Then I saw the static effect and realized that it was super choppy, almost as if the game was running at a low FPS. Thinking that I might've been going insane, I went over to Dawko's video but sure enough, everything was much faster and smoother. I just think it's hilarious that the only time Mirror Matt has recommended playing a game at high settings is also the first case of the poor old GTLive PC being obviously unable to do so.
Just how freaking stupid ARE you people??? O_o The "High" graphics mode runs like this on literally ANY/EVERY COMPUTER! It's a deliberate joke by the developer, the PC isn't actually lagging!
I think one of my favorite eighties/nineties video game tropes is, "Hey, friend! We're just relaxing and having lunch. Say, wanna play a game? Great! We already got these McGuffins for you to collect from us, and determined a prize for you if you collect them all, but just you though, all this is catered exactly to your interests and pleasure!" Like imagine being one of these friends, getting called at 6 AM by Claus the Clock or whatever cause he had this idea where everyone else pools their money to get Andy a gift, but they don't wanna just give it to him; Andy has to face a trial first, even if it's just hide and seek. Is this a normal thing friends do to each other and I just have terrible, non riddle demanding, non trial creating friends? Should I start looking into the logistics of making my family jump through hoops for their christmas presents? "Thank you for the books, Grandma, but to receive your gift, you must answer me these riddles three! The riddles are in the form of haikus on audio tapes, and furthermore, one of these riddles lies while the other two tell the truth only to the pure of heart!" Sorry, I got a little carried away.
Hint: there are way more Easter eggs you missed than just one. There was a part at the hub you could collide through, you could've taken the other path on melody's game, and you could play the games in different orders. You can also exit the barn through different paths and get different images other than the promotional poster.
inb4 swarms of people complain that Mat is comparing two different IPs again. "hOw dArE yOu cOmPaRe tHiS gAmE tO wALtOn FiLeS!!??!!??" Can the man not compare similar ideas anymore?
Also if you think about it, these two are similar: tragic event involving a family (plus a family friend), dead kid specifically, souls trapped in things (game/animatronic/vhs tapes) and everyone’s favourite: childhood trauma (:
@@Levi_The_One_The_Only i was going off of the 'compre similar ideas thing' with my own personal gripe. alsoI'm accusing matt of always assuming the thing is murdered children due to FNAF, so I' not doing that?
Its funny how one month later and pretty much 0 people are complaing about it So you're still technically right about being inb4 that crowd, so that's one right thing (unless of course a swarm consists of like 2 people)
The binary at 42:56 is a little odd to try to translate to ASCII, given that the last number gets cut off, but you can use context clues to figure it out. The three words appear to be "SCARED", "HAPPENED", and "WASN'T/HASN'T". Interestingly, the first letter of all three words is missing. EDIT: 52:06 yields "US TH TRUT . IT ASN'T HER F ULT." This likely ties back to the glitch at 24:28, which uses the phrase "It's not her fault" twice at the end.
An apple farm has apple orchards in it, they are filled with different types of apples. An orchard is something that exists within a farm itself. In some cases farmers have orchards of different fruits and other vegetables within their farms.
Matpat so the sounds you heard when the irregularity occurred was footsteps, knocking, typing, throwing gasoline, and more footsteps on snow running before he dies.

Everyone in game is super in character and then there's Andy, a normal dude, asking all the real questions
I swear my heart sunk to the bottom of my stomach when I finally noticed the subtle but absolutely horrifying image on the right side of the options menu... it wasn't until 48:58 when I first noticed it, I have genuinely never been more scared in my life until then. Correct me if I'm wrong but- do you see it too? I looks like a messed up face staring at the audience.

Oh god I see it now. There’s also one on the fake blue screen as well
It’s a messed up version of Andy if you brighten the screen, i think it’s the Thomas corrupted Andy.

Matthew and Matt blanking on cherry trees and agreeing that they must grow on vines is absolutely WILD to me
Yelling at Matt “ no cherries don’t grow on vines they grow on trees”!
Ah yes. How could we forget George Washington cutting down the cherry vines. lol
Me too, that bothered me so much.

GOOD ENDING:
Louis was scared of the water so he stayed home
Thomas didn't turn to alcohol
Kamryn & Isabella stayed away from the fire

( who is also his best friend)
We don’t completely know if Louis is dead or not, as in decoded messages “I don’t blame her” is repeated in response to Thomas blaming isabelle for the accident. We also don’t know who else was on the boat when Louis went missing.
However we do know that someone knows what Thomas has done, as in the final decoded message at the end of the game is
Edit 2: (i wrote it incorrectly lol)
“Thomas, don’t ask for help nobody can save you now”
All in all i love this series to death and would love if you covered some of these elements or if you can help me with the two clues I haven’t been able to solve!
Edit 1: format change :]
Edit 3: Hello! I have joined the official discord for this game, and found the answers to a lot of the secrets I wasn’t 100% sure of so let me clear some things up.
(MAJIOR SPOILERS)
The large section of binary was cut off, the entire message reads
“ She was so scared from what happened she couldn’t tell us the truth. It wasn’t her fault”
There were also a few clues i missed/glossed over.
In another of the secret end screens a Cesar cipher reads “Thomas Eastwood got us all trapped in here”
The only other cipher i missed was a translation of “Louis Eastwood” under his missing poster in a secret frame
Another Cipher langue appears as well that I didn’t catch, one saying “please save us” and the other “yet” repeatedly.
Impressive
Well done, I’m surprised at how you managed to piece this together with some parts of the messages being off screen
Just since you seem to know most of the secrets so far, I'm curious if you saw the face on the right of the blue screen of death, closest feeling I've had to my skin crawling

Anyway. Me too, Andy.
The scissors could easily just be for her hairstyle. She used the scissors to "cut" and "style" her hair in the way it is. That was my immediate reaction.
Not to mention her green room is some sort of "makeover" attraction, if I'm remembering correctly.
That's what I was thinking. Also, there's a salon or something in the Pizzaplex as well, if I remember correctly from the pictures Dawko showed off
@@daleharden1749 is her attraction makeover themed? I wasn't aware of that and was wracking my brain about the hairdresser theme for the shirt. I definitely noticed immediately that the shirt has a salon chair, a hairspray tag line, and that those scissors on the sleeve are hair cutting shears.
Yeah, in the shirt there is a salon chair she is standing next to, so I just assumed that she was a hairdresser,

Title: "If the Walten Files were a game"
Me: Isn't that literally FNAF?
Maybe because it's more based around a farm?
yes and no, FNAF is supposed to be scary and its jump scares are quite fast moving which gets your heart beating but The Walten files is unsettling, it has distorted faces and audio that you can only just make out, its a slow burn, it makes you see what’s has happened by keeping the scene there just for the right amount of time and that’s what makes it so scary.
I like when Matpat asked Matt "Would you eat other apples?" and Andy answered "of course I would" 13:21 - 13:24

I thought the Peter Pumpkin was the dark entity?!
The Pumpkin County and Peter Pumpkin thing could also be a coincidence, or the dark entity took the shape of a pumpkin because of the towns name? I don’t know man this game is wild
Edit: also man your vision must be AMAZING if you were able to see that face, it took me a while to even realize there was something there, let alone a face
13:22 the timing of andy voice is just perfect with what matpat asked
MatPat screaming at a jumpscare is scaring me more than the jumpscares themselves xD
In order to get all the lore, you have to do things in different orders.
The scariest part about this game, is losing your sanity and patience.
MatPat: "You you were an apple would you eat another apple?"
Andy: "Of course I would!"
I just watched Ranboo's gameplay of this game and I noticed that some of the lore cut scenes are different. Very weird and interesting...
It's really weird when horror games as simple as this require such high graphics quality that it lags the computer.
he is so right about the start having Charlie the Unicorn vibes. they were just constantly trying to get him killed
Hey Matpat! There are some hidden easter eggs and lore if you try to say "no" or try to break out of the mini games!
I wont say all of them, but new dialogue appears depending on who's game you play first, and strange things happen if you try to say "no" or try to break the mini games! (Also each door in the barn gives a different secret ending screen)
Like in the fishing game. Tell him "no" for a secret surprise.
And spoilers for this!
If you drag the body at the bottom of the lake across the riverbed after being forced into the game, you get a creepy message that says "you know exactly what you did" with faded binary just below
01001011 01100001 01101101 01110010 01111001 01101110
I went and translated the binary and it came out as "Kamryn"
So here's a theory for ya to add to this mystery! Who exactly is Kamryn, and what does she have to contribute to the story of the game?
Also, something different happens if you bring the body back to the dock ;)
Kamryn is the wife/mothers name actually! At 32:00 you can hear the MC mention Kam, short for Kamryn (:
Fair enough! Though that does also lead to the question, what was it that she did if that line was meant for her?
"You know exactly what you did [Kamryn]"
Did she do something to cause the son's "disappearance" since that line is tied to the body in the riverbed?
What MatPat didn't finish in the text of the first minigame was "She could feel her skin peeling off."

Nice to see you played it! A theory on this would be pretty cool :)
I think Andy's Apple Farm is more like the Battington files "Harmony & Horror", both involve dads who sacrifice their entire family to give life to their creations

Fun facts: Felix's minigame is fishing (cannibalism?)
Melody's song is "twinkle twinkle little star"(in which she is a moon)
there's a clock on Claus' minigame for no reason

20:13, the text under the error thing said "The time was supposed to be happy, but she could feel her skin peeling off"
23:44, I watched someone else play this and they got another catch before the mini game ended and another glitch happened that had more story line.
56:19, the glitch texts unscrambled says "Do not be afraid Thomas, (and then something I can't read)"
I am very excited to watch the game theory for this game!😁
now we need an ACTUAL Walten Files game like Bunnyfarm
18:11 unless your talking about cherry tomatoes (that grow on vines) no cherry's don't grow on vines, they come from a tree so yes it would be a cherry Orchard (though bananas also grow on trees but get called a plantation not a orchard so ?)
I grew up on a farm, delt with fruit trees frequently. We had cherry trees and a few sour cherry bushes (90% pit)
Funny thing, in the 1930s or1940s I had a family member who would splice random fruit tree cuttings together.
Came for the witty banter, stayed for the ending jumpscare that legitimately made my skin crawl.
The riddles are in the form of haikus on audio tapes, and furthermore, one of these riddles lies while the other two tell the truth only to the pure of heart!"
Sorry, I got a little carried away.
From dawkos playthrough it seems like you get different glitches and errors each time! That’s really cool!
i love andy’s reaction to claus offering him an apple to eat and his friends saying they took the key to his house
he said 😀
Hint: there are way more Easter eggs you missed than just one. There was a part at the hub you could collide through, you could've taken the other path on melody's game, and you could play the games in different orders. You can also exit the barn through different paths and get different images other than the promotional poster.

So you're still technically right about being inb4 that crowd, so that's one right thing (unless of course a swarm consists of like 2 people)
Just letting you know, Mirror Matt, cherries do grow on trees and bushes (my family has a sour cherry orchard)
Day 5 of asking Mat to play Inscryption, it’s a card based game (which I know you LoVe) that has an ARG with some real theory potential
It's probably too long for this channel. I'd love to see him do a theory on it though.
We can all agree that Andy needs better friends.
Yay, excited for the Game Theory episode!
