Just found out about this channel! I've been waiting for YEARS for anyone to talk about it (cause I'm a coward so I never did it myself) but I'm interested in seeing your take on the lore! Would love to share theories with the rest of the comments!

A thought about how each of the animals depicted; the hare, peacock, deer, crow and boar are all animals which have been used to represent Greek Gods and Goddesses... Hare- Aphrodite Peacock- Hera Deer- Artemis, Crow- Apollo, Boar- Ares. The idea of a pagan cult being wiped out by the seven plagues from the old testament could be a theme here... This is a family tree too with Aphrodite, Apollo, Artemis and Ares being the children of Zeus who married Hera.
So happy to see more people getting into these games, I've been in love with the Rusty Lake games for years (I still remember discovering Samsara Room in one of those old flash games websites with a shit ton of "point and click" games :'D)
Nice video. But Jakob was always meant to be sacrificed to the lake so they could achieve immortality. His father was preparing him for that, not to take his father's place. His mother wanted to save him so she was secretly working on a elixir. In that scene when they were in the boat. It was the mother who told Jakob that he needs to leave when they tried to sacrifice him 15 years ago. They killed her instead but it didn't work for them so they tried to get Jakob to come to the island again so they can sacrifice him through their rituals. Caroline seems to know that they will try again. Her corrupted soul helped Jakob and apperantly her work was so Jakob and herself could be enlightened instead of dying.
I did realize myself the first point you mentioned while editing, that’s why I put that text on screen at 14:14. In my next video I probably will have to do some corrections on most of what I said here, though.
The part where you give the masks to your family members more seems like you completing the ritual with the previously missing cube, thus starting a cycle of agony for your other family members. They get killed and eat each other in rusty lake hotel after all

There is a lot of "I don't know" in this video... Which is understandable, as these games are esoteric and abstract. I guess I was hoping to hear more developed theories from a video that used "explained" in the title, but this is more of a plot summary/recap. I appreciate that more eyes are being drawn to the games though, and I'll be subscribing to see your future vids!
I think that when it comes to theories, you can never claim to know anything for sure. By “explained” I meant that I explained the general plot for people who don’t understand, but like you said, for the more abstract parts, there can’t really be one correct explanation.

I spent the entire game wondering if we were actually seeing Caroline's memories. Most of them, we see Caroline - and that makes it seem like we're seeing her from someone else's perspective. Until our character appeared in the memory with the heart, I thought we were seeing our own memories of our mother.
I assume they’re Caroline’s memories, since Nicholas says “I need her memories”, as well as the scene with all the cubes appearing when she died. These cubes seem to just be in the third person, maybe because they didn’t want to make first-person scenes.
Oh, and also Caroline’s corrupted soul saying “bring my memories to the Lake”, “don’t let them use my memories”, and “my memories are the key to your future” seems to suggest that the memories are most likely hers.
In rusty lake hotel mr owl killed all other creatures and they're souls got captured, but how somebody got his mask? Idk maybe Jakob survived and wanted to take revenge, jakob became immortal but rest of the family acted like they're immortal they got angry and captured the lake and thats how Laura vanderboom killed in the lake
So my family is directly descended from the early American colonizers. Both the pligrims and the Dutch. A lot of the lore of this games directly ties to folk lore from early colonial America. I don't know if this was intentional, but I found that interesting.
