This video talks about the various reasons that betta fish get sick and stay at bottom of the tank, Why do the betta fish stay at the bottom? Or swimming sideways? Laying on one side? Or always stay on top of the filter? All these questions were answered.

      Betta fish CAN live in a fish bowl, but if you don't have betta fish conditioner, and a filter, it'll cause them to die within a week maybe 2 if so.

    Mine is in a well cycled 10gal tank by himself in which parameters are closely monitored, all organic material tank, his temperature is a consistent 75°-78°F, he’s got natural tannins, his 15 minute little daily flare session, he gets daphnia, bloodworms, mysis, and top of the line pellets which I count and literally spoon feed him, he’s got his Betta buddy rock with this lil plant buddy, his anubias plant that is suctioned cupped close to the surface, a sponge filter with a nice flow, I clean his tank once a week with a 25% water change, his pH is always at around 7.4 beautiful hand selected driftwood that has been boiled and hydrogen peroxide treated before it ever went into the empty tank while I cycled it, any and all decorations are tested for being gentle on his fins, sand substrate, and a filter flow on his sponge filter is pretty low, but enough to keep the tank well maintained…. AND HE STILL SLEEPS ON THE BOTTOM OF THE FREAKING TANK! THIS BUDDY IS SPOILED ROTTEN! he eats, swims and poops normally, and is always up and zooming/exploring around the tank when the light is on and will be in any corner of the tank playing I am closest to as he gets super excited when he sees me/im around, but when the light is off, he’s at the bottom… I honestly think he’s just lazy at some point 🤣 I’ve checked off the entire list. He looks great too 🤣🤣🤣

    Very informative and enjoyable video, as always.
    I hope you can help me out with a new problem I'm facing. My male Bettas are dying after breeding. A couple of months ago I bred 2 pairs of Bettas...one was a success, one wasn't. The male Bettas did not seem injured at the end of the whole mating process. But when they were released back to their previous tanks, both seemed to stay at the bottom and eat much lesser than what they used to previously. Eventually, both died 2-3 weeks later. The females however, even though they looked battered after mating, are doing fine till now.
    Last week I bred another 2 different pairs. Once again, one was a success, one wasn't. Once again, both male Bettas seem off colour, while the females are doing fine. In fact one of the 2 males doesn't seem to be doing too well.
    This is very disappointing for me. When I breed bettas, I'm obviously selecting the healthiest and best looking males, and losing them like this is very depressing. I've bred Bettas previously, but never faced such a situation. What am I doing wrong? Please help me if you can.

    • @aquadiaryofficial
      @aquadiaryofficial  Год назад +2

      I can understand your disappointment. It’s very tricky scenario to handle. Few questions to understand & help better.
      Is your female showing submissive behavior Or fighting at initial stage? Sometime, it make male to spend too much energy.
      As you know, males don’t eat during breeding process. So moving him at right time and treating him soon is critical. Male is good to be removed as soon as fried start swimming. Checkout, whether you are moving him late.
      Generally, stress & water quality were the common reasons to lose male after breeding. Put him to hospital tank and treat him for few days as you see it’s same pattern on every breeding.
      Hope you are using almond leaves on tank.
      Keep little warmer tank 78-80F on your hopital tank.
      Hope this helps for some extend. Happy to respond for any further questions.

    • @abhishekdatta4194
      @abhishekdatta4194 Год назад +2

      Thanks for prompt reply.
      The response of females is variable. Some submit early, while some display aggression early on. In either case, it is usually the females that look battered, the males appeared healthy just after mating.
      I always feed the males well before breeding and move them on day 3, when fry start swimming.
      I know that most breeders recommend using almond leaves. I've never used it. Rather, I use methylene blue and anti fungals in the breeding tank in prescribed dosage. Never had any problem previously. Will try almond leaves next time.
      Temperature was between 25-28 degrees Celcius, which is in the recommended range.
      Will certainly move the male to a hospital tank next time immediately after breeding.
      Please make a video on how to make a hospital tank for Bettas.
      Thanks again for your prompt support.

    My betta has been lying on his side at the top of his tank a lot in the past couple of weeks since his tank transfer from a 3.5 gallon to a 10 gallon. I think he got super stressed when I did a tank over haul and then maybe a week later transferred him to the 10 gallon. I quarentined him for 5 days while I was getting his 10 gallon ready. When I transferred him his fins were super discolored and torn. 😭 I put some almond leaves in his tank to help heal him. It’s been almost three weeks. He seems to be getting his color back, but he’s been sleeping on his side at the top of his tank. In the past, he loves laying on everything in the most comical positions. However, I’ve never seen him lay on nothing on his side. Am I feeding him too much plus all this recent stress? I feed him 3 pellets twice a day.
    He also has new tank mates. I’ve never seen him be aggressive with former tank mates. We have 3 Cory catfish, 2 snails, and neo shrimp.
    I want him to be happy again. Any suggestions?

    Sir i need help urgently!
    I have a betta fish ( age 1.5 + years ) but from 2 months i have noticed that he remains at the bottom lying down 90 % of the time. He doesn't even react to pushes and taps to the tank. He has his clean water and live plants in his tank. I even add anti chlorine and rock salt since the beginning. But why does he still lie down and also his fins were magnificent before but now all look small and a bit ugly.
    Please help what to do? Any medicines?

      Aging could be a reason. Keep the water warmer for 80-82F, this helps old betta. Also lower the the tank water level. Add more testing spot. Check this video, it might help as well. ruclips.net/video/-7LPMe_T78k/видео.htmlsi=pdfHLzhzIRc-BGU-

    My guy who I’ve had for a week or so is staying at the bottom of his tank. I know betas sleep a lot but he was extremely active a few days ago. He got stuck behind the filter before the lying down started. He wasn’t there for long, he was acting as per usual and only had a few minor tears on his tail. The day after is when he started sleeping 24/7, I’ve gotten aquarium salt in hopes it might be a bacterial issue although his fins haven’t worsened and the water is great. Most bettas I’ve had that have ripped a tiny piece of their fins have no issues as long as they have good water quality. Do you have any insight? Do you think the aquarium salt will help? He has a 5 gallon, he has natural and silk plants but is sleeping on the gravel, he has a heater, a filter, gentle air bubbles, is on pellets and brine, has no belly swelling, has good water quality so I am stumped. The only thing I can think of is that maybe he has damaged himself internally when he got stuck?

    • @aquadiaryofficial

      Thank you! Turned out the tank was ready for an ammonia spike. I checked all my levels when he first got sick and it was great. The next day it had spiked. I got some plants stuck in my filter and needed hot water to get them out. I then placed the filter into aquarium water to soak before adding it in but it must have still messed up the beneficial bacteria. Little fishy is back to being a happy boy!
