- This is a video describing how to clean up your ps3 slim from the inside.
The helps in reducing the fan noise and also increases the lifespan of your your ps3 system.
The materials used in the video are as follows
1. Thermal Paste: GD900 look it up on aliexpress; its very good for the money
2. Iso-propyl alcohol : use 99% can buy from amazon
3. Good Scredriver set
4. Tissue paper

Thank u so much man. There are quite a lot of videos on RUclips about this exact repair, but you were the only one I found that literally walked me through every single step one at a time. My ps3 would turn off after 2 or 3 min everytime. Now it works like the day I bought it! Thx again

I had the same problem: I replaced 3 times the thermal paste of my PS3 Slim (day 1), but it never resolved the problem.
Yesterday I finally fixed the problem by taping some cardboard under the CPU and the GPU, as seen in a video of idrees tech called "PS3 makes 3 beeps then shuts off. (CECH 3001A)" at 11min20!
So my ps3 wouldn’t overheat before I replaced the thermal paste now that it has fresh thermal paste it overheats almost immediately the fan accelerates to highest spin speed
It sounds like you did not apply the fresh thermal paste properly, did you completely clean off the old paste before applying the new stuff? If you put too much on or incorrectly (leave gaps or air pockets), it will not work properly.

I have done following this procedure its not working..
I think problem is cpu ...open this cpu plate with sharp blade and down in the thermal paste & close the plate... Its 101 ℅ working but this is not my dear.
Really good video, try to put much less thermal paste like “small circle” cuz motherboard will stick with it and thermal paste expands to whole cpu
Not true those are very large heat spreaders, I just did the same method you described, I use the same method on almost everything with great results, but it doesn't work on the ps3.
After I repasted, Webman mod was reporting both the cell broad band engine and the rsx were running at 76c while testing with god of war 3.
I have to rip the whole console apart again and go way heavy on the paste.
Also take a look at a video by gamer nexus where they tested the entire art applying thermal paste. They tested minimal thermal paste, the standard dab of paste on the middle, and the ungodly amount of paste on cpu's. The standard dab, and the ungodly amount both performed relatively the same. Where as the tiny amount barely did anything.

i just bought a ps3 slim for $25. i booted it up. connected through wifi. set up my account then i started playing mlb the bigs. noticed criag biggio is in the game. i quickly realized i sucked at the game. quitted. went outside for awhile. about 15 minutes. i came back and was shocked at how hot it became. i turned it completely off and here i am.
also the hdmi be disconnecting when i touched the cord. probably should find a fix to that too.
SONY SUCKS because of consoles that stop reading discs, consoles that over heat due to not enough vents or the vents are not large enough, and "drum roll", those DANG wireless controllers not connecting or not charging.
I've cleaned it replaced the thermal compound and it is the same. Fan goes Turbo before the game is even launched. My first one melted and I reflowed it for it to happen again. I'm chalking Sony up to being phoney gaming platforms. I will not be getting a 5. Bye bye Sony. You've been hacked anyway.
The thermal paste under your gpu and rsx plate needs to be replaced also.

@@F-rig And they are a pain to take off. Luckily ps4 is easier and safer to replace. I've done both consoles and ps3 was very complex.

My PS3 still overheats after replacing thermal paste and seems to be due to the heat sink not touching the CPU properly due to bad design on some models.
Are you using some custom firmware? Does it shutdown after overheating? Could you also check the whether the clamps are screwed in properly?
Also you can you use a thermalpad slightly thicker and see if it makes a difference and if it does think about replacing the heat sink!!
Game MechanicX I’m using ps3hen cobra 4.84 firmware is it the reason my cpu goes to 70*C and the gpu stays at 45*C i can check the temperature on multiman
@@gamemechanicx1817 I am using 4.86.1 Rebug. I seem to have solved the issue after assembling the heat sink and fan to the motherboard by pressing firmly down on the clamps after screwing them in. I had the idea that the thermal paste may have been applied too thick or the clamps were not pressing down firm enough.
@@labki69 PS3 did not come with a soldered heat sink. The binding/contact between the heat spreader is with thermal paste. They did this to save cost. Over a period of time the thermal paste becomes dry and the processors start heating up. But deliding the CPU and GPU is simply not worth the risk. try cleaning it up and apply thermal paste. If that does not make a difference try increasing the fan speed using webman mod.

It should bind the two surfaces a little spill over won't hurt mate. Make sure to use a non conductive compound. But don't go overboard

I have replaced thermal paste but still fan is working loudly. Rsx and cpu reach quickly 70 C and fan make noise
What you're ambient temperatures: mid sixties are good. Try using webman mod and strike a balance between fan noise and good temperatures. Hope this helps
That means the thermal paste underneath the gpu and rsx plate covers have dried up, you need to replace them also.

do you have a jailbroken PS3? if yes please install Webman manually increase the Fan speed and try. Also keep monitoring at what the ,temperature does it overheat and shuts down

yes, that's similar to my slim ps3 right now. it means the thermal paste is not helping the cpu / gpu temperatures. I'm going to try this on mine soon, seems like same process as cpu on a computer with thermal paste.

check the disc if its dirty clean it, when that did not solve your problem might be disc is damaged? or check hard drive that already failing

Could you please describe it a bit more. Does your hard drive make a clicking sound? Or does the fan sound very good before freezing. It could be a bga issue as well. Might require Reballing

I have a problem to my ps3 bro when I play God of War Ascension then 20 minutes my ps3 automatically shutdown and there's a notification said that the system has become hot please turn it off and wait for it to cool down something like that then 3 beep then shutdown with blinking red light I think this is not a YLOD coz I can turn on my ps3 fat 80gb model but unlike the other ps3 mine is more quieter than a hair blower please help me resolve my problem any advice will appreciated thank you

Please look at cleaning up the console from inside.. also change the thermal paste. you can also look at deliding the cpu and the gpu however that should be be the last measure. becoz deliding can lead to paermanent hardware damage
